Adam LaRoche went 2-for-5 with two RBI, including the game-winner in the ninth inning, against the Astros on Tuesday.
LaRoche did his best work late, driving in the game-tying run with a double in the eighth inning before coming back with the game-winning RBI single in the top of the ninth. He's now got 17 RBI on the season, and the notoriously slow-starting first baseman is batting an impressive .312/.413/.495.

LaRoche also walked and scored a run in the ballgame. He's off to a terrific start in rebounding from a poor 2013 campaign, slashing .321/.430/.512 with four homers and 15 RBI in his first 23 games.

LaRoche has hit safely in seven games and has been an on-base machine all season long, now with a .419 mark. The 34-year-old is not normally thought of as an offensive threat at his position, particularly after last year's lukewarm performance, but has been a big part of the Nationals' offense throughout April.

Adam LaRoche reached base in all four plate appearances in Tuesday's win against the Marlins.
LaRoche singled three times and walked while knocking in a run and scoring twice. His numbers fell across the board last season, but the loss of power particularly stood out. LaRoche, however, has been swinging well in the early going, batting .348 with two home runs in 30 plate appearances on the season.

He's drawing interest as both a first baseman and DH. LaRoche, who turned 34 earlier this month, batted just .237/.332/.403 with 20 homers and 62 RBI this season. He's under contract for one more year at $12 million and has a $2 million buyout on a $15 million mutual option for 2015.

Adam LaRoche told Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo he does not believe the bone chips in his elbow contributed to his disappointing 2013 season.
LaRoche underwent successful surgery in late October to remove loose bodies from his left elbow. The veteran first baseman slashed just .237/.332/.403 with 20 homers and 62 RBI in 590 plate appearances this past season. He'll require 4-6 weeks of rest before resuming workouts and is expected to be ready for the start of spring training.
