Wed Sep 18 201308:13Vernon Davis says not to worry about hammy
Vernon Davis tweeted that there's "no need to worry" about his hamstring injury.
Here's the exact tweet Davis sent out from his verified account at 11:03 PT Tuesday night: "No need to worry y'all. My leg is feeling great just need a little rest til kickoff according to the docs." The tweet suggests that Davis won't practice this week but he does expect to play in Sunday's 4:25 ET game against the Colts. We'll know more when coach Jim Harbaugh addresses the media after Wednesday's practice.

Tue Sep 17 201308:02Vernon Davis was getting examined Tuesday
The 49ers did not know the severity of Vernon Davis' left hamstring strain as of Tuesday.
Davis was getting his hamstring evaluated on Tuesday. CSN Bay Area suggests the Niners will see how he progresses during the course of the practice week before deciding if he'll suit up against the Colts Sunday. Davis' backup is athletic second-round rookie Vance McDonald.

Mon Sep 16 201307:31Vernon Davis' injury called a strain for now
Vernon Davis sustained a hamstring "strain" in Sunday night's loss to the Seahawks.
In the fourth quarter, Davis was running a vertical route and was forced to pull up as he grabbed the back of his leg. Richard Sherman made an interception on the play. Davis was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game and was spotted with an ice bag wrapped around his leg. The Niners did not reveal any details on the severity of the strain following the game. Davis' backup is second-round rookie Vance McDonald.

Mon Sep 16 201300:12Vernon Davis exits with hamstring injury
Vernon Davis left Sunday night's Week 2 game against the Seahawks with a hamstring injury.
Davis was shown slightly limping after Colin Kaepernick's second interception and will not return. He had just three catches for 20 yards prior to the injury and was targeted five times in the passing game.

Sun Sep 8 201320:30Vernon Davis picks up where he left off
Vernon Davis caught six passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's Week 1 win over the Packers.
Once a disaster, the chemistry between Davis and Colin Kaepernick is now palpable. In his last three games (including playoffs), the freakishly athletic tight end has 17 catches for 308 yards and three touchdowns. He lined up all over the field, and also had a goal-line roll-out successfully designed for him. Davis is a good bet to be among the top-three fantasy tight ends when it's said and done.

Fri Sep 6 201316:57Vernon Davis: I worked with WRs 'all camp'
Vernon Davis says he worked with the 49ers' wide receivers "maybe five times" in 2012 training camp, but "worked with them all training camp" in 2013.
49ers OC Greg Roman "put an emphasis" on improving Davis' routes. The Niners are short on receivers and need Davis to have a productive year. "Last year, I didn't really work with the wide receivers as much, maybe five times in training camp," said Davis. "But I've been working with them all training camp so I had a chance to really detail my routes and get an opportunity to learn what they were doing. It helped me out tremendously."

Fri Sep 6 201312:53Vernon Davis: Kaep and I on 'different level'
Vernon Davis says he and Colin Kaepernick are "on a different level" this season.
This is in response to Randy Moss -- current FOX analyst and ex-49er -- who said Davis and Kaepernick didn't have a "rapport" last season. This isn't the first time we've read of Davis and Kaepernick's new-found connection on the field this summer. CSN Bay Area described their chemistry as "seemingly unstoppable" three weeks ago. Davis is a good bet to lead the 49ers in receiving this season. He's Rotoworld's No. 4 tight end versus Green Bay this week.

Sun Aug 25 201321:52Vernon Davis goes for 21 yards Sunday night
Vernon Davis caught two passes for 21 yards in the 49ers' third preseason game Sunday night.
He'll finish preseason with three receptions for 33 yards, assuming the Niners don't play their starters in the exhibition finale. Considering how little Jim Harbaugh has used his first-team group in the first three games, that wold be a surprise. Davis is poised for a huge fantasy year as the No. 1 or 2 target in Colin Kaepernick's passing game. He's a recommended fantasy selection for owners who miss out on Jimmy Graham in the first two rounds.

Mon Aug 19 201316:28Kap-to-Vernon Davis 'seemingly unstoppable'
CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco describes Colin Kaepernick's training camp chemistry with Vernon Davis as "seemingly unstoppable."
We've read reports of Davis and Kaepernick's impressive rapport throughout August, carrying over from January's playoffs. "Last year when he first got the starting job, we'd be at practice and he'd keep overthrowing me," Davis described. "I'd be running as fast as I possibly could and Colin just kept overthrowing me. Now we get out there and it's night and day. He puts the ball right there. Man, he's come a long way. I'm very impressed."

Thu Aug 1 201323:27Vernon Davis isn't converting to wideout
According to CSN Bay Area, Vernon Davis converting to wide receiver "hasn't been the case at all" in training camp.
Davis taking practice reps with the wide receivers has been blown a bit out of proportion, to the extent we've had readers ask whether he might have wideout eligibility in fantasy leagues. That definitely won't happen. Davis is spending the bulk of his reps as an in-line tight end, but moves to the slot and outside receiver at times. He's still very much in the hunt to lead San Francisco in 2013 receiving, along with Anquan Boldin.

Wed Jul 31 201314:5949ers OC: Vernon Davis has gone next level
49ers OC Greg Roman believes Vernon Davis has "really taken it up to a new level."
Roman's comments come the same day the Sacramento Bee called Davis the most consistent deep threat in 49ers camp. Davis is an annual offseason superstar who doesn't always produce as a TE1, but there's almost no way he isn't going to be an integral part of the 49ers' aerial attack this season. He's Rotoworld's No. 5 overall tight end.

Wed Jul 31 201309:18Vernon Davis the Niners' best deep threat
Vernon Davis has been the Niners' most consistent deep threat during training camp.
Davis' unique speed can exploit defenses from both his normal tight end spot and the slot position he's been getting reps at. Per the Sac Bee, he's been "the perfect match for [Colin] Kaepernick's ever-improving long ball." The paper also adds that any chemistry issues this pair showed when Kaep first took over last season are gone now. Davis has a 12/254/1 line in three playoff games and has been lighting up camp.

Sun Jul 28 201320:59Vernon Davis still lining up at WR for Niners
Vernon Davis continues to take reps with the wide receivers during 49ers' camp.
Davis exclusively practiced with the wideouts during the Niners' minicamp in June. It wasn't a one week experiment, as he's been splitting his time between receiver and tight end over the past few days. With Michael Crabtree (Achilles') down, Davis' role in the passing game is going to increase. "I see a lot of improvement, in his ability as a football player, his route-running," coach Jim Harbaugh said. "He looks really good, in the prime of his career." Davis will play all over the field and is a good bet to lead San Francisco in receiving this season.

Sat Jul 20 201321:03Davis to reemerge as 49ers top receiver?
CSN Bay Area suggests Vernon Davis "might" reemerge as the 49ers' leading receiver in 2013.
In all likelihood, it'll be either Davis or Anquan Boldin. And Davis is the better bet with younger legs and a far less limited skill set. Boldin is essentially a box-out receiver. Davis was San Francisco's leading pass catcher in both 2009 and 2010, finishing as the No. 1 and 3 overall fantasy tight end in those seasons, respectively. He caught 78 balls and scored 13 TDs in 2009.

Sun Jun 30 201309:56Vernon Davis not moving to receiver full-time
The 49ers have "some new wrinkles" planned for Vernon Davis, but he isn't moving to wide receiver full-time.
Davis practiced exclusively with the receivers during minicamp, but he isn't suddenly going to make a full-on position switch. The former No. 6 overall pick has unique field-stretching skills unlike many other tight ends, so featuring him as a wideout in the absence of Michael Crabtree (Achilles') makes sense. Expect Davis to be moved all around the formation. He's locked in as a TE1.

Tue Jun 25 201317:27Vernon Davis: I'm open to playing receiver
Vernon Davis says he'll play receiver if asked this season.
Davis practiced exclusively at wideout in minicamp. "If coaches want to line me up there, well see," Davis said. "I'll do whatever the coaches ask me to do. If statistics come, it's cool. But ... my true identity is within the team. I never doubt myself. That's how I live." Davis isn't going to be making a full-on position switch this season, but should be moved all over the formation as a pass catcher, and will likely be called on to block less. Last season, 497 of Davis' 942 snaps came as a blocker. Despite his uneven history of production, Davis is locked in as a high-end TE1.

Thu May 23 201307:22Vernon Davis to pick up slack for Crabtree
CSN Bay Area considers Vernon Davis the "strongest candidate" to pick up the slack in the 49ers' passing game.
Over the final nine games of last season (including playoffs), Davis saw just 31 targets. Michael Crabtree, the apple of Colin Kaepernick's eye, saw 89 passes come his way during that span. Now that Crabtree (Achilles') is out until at least Week 12 -- and possibly longer -- the Niners could build a tight end heavy passing scheme centered around the freakishly talented Davis. They used a second-round pick on Rice TE Vance McDonald last month.

Mon Feb 4 201300:14Vernon Davis goes for 104 yds on 6 catches
Vernon Davis caught six passes for 104 yards in the 49ers' Super Bowl 47 loss to the Ravens.
On the first play from scrimmage, Davis had a 20-yard deep ball called back due to his own illegal formation penalty. He proceeded to shred Bernard Pollard and Ray Lewis in coverage for first-half gains of 24, 29, and 11, although San Francisco could not capitalize due to turnovers and drive stalls. The one that really got away was a go route down the right sideline in the fourth quarter. Davis had two steps on Ravens LCB Corey Graham, but Colin Kaepernick's well-placed pass glanced off the tight end's fingertips. After a 2012-2013 season filled with wild ups and downs -- and mostly downs -- Davis will be a difficult player to rank for 2013 fantasy drafts. We will likely take an optimistic approach.

Sun Jan 20 201318:36Vernon Davis reappears as 49ers are SB-bound
Vernon Davis caught five balls for a team-high 106 yards and a touchdown as the 49ers advanced to Super Bowl XLVII in Sunday's 28-24 NFC Championship Game win over the Falcons.
Davis' first big play went for 27 yards, about 20 of which came after the catch on a critical second-quarter third-and-long play. Davis had another long reception on a deep crosser negated due to penalty, but came back for gains of 19, 25, and a four-yard touchdown on the same late-first half drive, beating Falcons CB Thomas DeCoud at will. Blowing by Falcons SLB Stephen Nicholas on a third-quarter route, Davis cleared 100 receiving yards for the first time since Week 5 with a 31-yard strike. We've been saying the Niners had to get Davis re-involved in order to qualify to play in New Orleans, and that's precisely what happened. Davis now has six grabs for 150 yards in the playoffs, averaging 25 yards per catch.
