Sun Sep 14 201423:46Vernon Davis: Exits With Ankle Injury
Davis left Sunday's game with an ankle injury and will not return, ESPN.com's Stephania Bell reports.
Davis' ankle got trapped under the body of Bears linebacker Jon Bostic when the tight end made an eight-yard catch early in the fourth quarter. Should Davis miss time beyond Week 2, Vance McDonald and Derek Carrier would be in line for added opportunities at tight end. McDonald, a 2013 second-round draft pick, is the more interesting of the two players from a fantasy perspective, but the 49ers often struggled to keep Davis involved, so it would be unwise to expect big things from a lesser tight end. Davis finished his night with three receptions for 39 yards on three targets.

Davis grabbed four passes (six targets) for 44 yards with a pair of touchdowns in Sunday's 28-17 win at Dallas.
Davis scored twice in the second quarter, as San Francisco built a huge lead. Even with all the weapons that the 49ers have this season, Davis remains a sure bet to approach double digits in touchdowns, with his impressive size and speed.

Davis caught one pass for 16 yards on two targets in Sunday's preseason game against the Chargers.
Davis dealt with an unspecified minor injury at the beginning of the month, but he has now played in consecutive exhibition games. He's likely done for the preseason, and should enter Week 1 at full health. The receiving corps surrounding Davis appears to be the best of his career, so this probably won't be the year in which he finally gets the target totals afforded to other top players at his position.

Davis started Sunday's preseason game against the Broncos, but he finished with no targets on the only series he played.
Many of the Niners regular starters, such as Frank Gore, Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin, played only the first series, so there's no reason to read anything into Davis' limited playing time. He was reportedly dealing with a minor unspecified injury earlier this month, but he didn't appear limited at all during Sunday's game.

Coach Jim Harbaugh indicated that Davis is nursing a minor unspecified issue, ESPN.com reports.
Whereas receivers Michael Crabtree and Brandon Lloyd reportedly could miss a week or two, per the report, we'll consider Davis day-to-day until we hear otherwise.

Tue Jul 22 201419:54'Surprise' if Vernon Davis doesn't report?
ESPN 49ers reporter Bill Williamson believes it would be a "big surprise" if Vernon Davis continued his holdout through training camp.
Williamson cites Davis' inconsistency throughout his contract quest, and admission that it wouldn't be the end of the world if a new deal couldn't be hammered out. CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco hinted last week that Davis will continue to hold out, so we may not get a definitive answer before practice starts.

Wed Jul 16 201422:07Vernon Davis' holdout likely to continue
CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco wrote in a fan chat that "there are indications" Vernon Davis' holdout "is going to continue."
Davis' actions have been consistently inconsistent since the holdout began, promising one thing and doing the other. Maiocco goes so far as to write, "I'm not sure how important the game is to him at this stage of his life." Please keep in mind Maiocco was writing in a chat, but he is a plugged-in reporter with a takes worth noting. It sounds like there may more to this story than we know.

Fri Jun 27 201415:23Vernon Davis realizes he may not get paid
Vernon Davis acknowledged there's a (likely good) possibility the 49ers won't give him a new contract.
Davis skipped all pre-training camp activities. "It's just like any athlete, we all want a new contract," he said. "But I'm not going to stress over it. It's not the end of the world if I don't get it. ... At the end of the day, if I don't get the deal, at least I tried and I put my foot down." Highly unlikely to get more money, Davis doesn't sound like a threat to hold out of training camp.

Thu Jun 19 201414:03Niners unlikely to negotiate with holdouts?
CSN Bay Area doesn't expect the 49ers to negotiate with holdouts Vernon Davis and RG Alex Boone until they report back to the team.
Reporter Matt Maiocco believes that's the "49er way." That's how the team handled Frank Gore's holdout in 2011. Boone appears more serious about getting a raise than Davis, and also has more leverage. Unlike Davis, Boone is obviously underpaid. Davis' "holdout" isn't expected to linger deep into camp. That's if it continues at all.

Wed Jun 18 201409:05Williamson: Davis will relent eventually
ESPN 49ers reporter Bill Williamson would be surprised if Vernon Davis stages a long-term holdout at training camp.
At 30 years old and currently the third-highest paid tight end in the league, Davis has virtually no leverage. Skipping this week's mandatory minicamp looks like a way to get his name in the headlines and help build the "brand" he cherishes so much. Williams notes that Davis "loves football. He loves being part of the spotlight. I think it'd kill him to stay away."

Tue Jun 17 201412:25Vernon Davis a no-show for 49ers minicamp
Vernon Davis did not report to mandatory minicamp on Tuesday.
As expected. There were reports last week that Davis had planned to report to minicamp after sitting out OTAs in hopes of landing a new contract. Those reports were refuted by Davis on Monday and Tuesday when he said he wasn't going to show up. He's subject to daily fines if he continues to sit out the three-day minicamp. Things will get more serious if Davis continues his holdout at training camp next month. Davis wants a raise on his $4.7 million salary.

Mon Jun 16 201408:27VD: It's about getting paid what you deserve
Vernon Davis confirmed his holdout is "all about getting paid what you deserve."
Davis wrote this week's Monday Morning Quarterback column, filling in for Peter King. He confirmed he's holding out, although he previously said he will be reporting to this week's mandatory minicamp. "It's not that complicated. I want the 49ers to win the Super Bowl, and I want to be on the field this summer working towards that goal, but I have to worry about my future first," he wrote. The only leverage Davis has here is to not show for minicamp or training camp.

Fri Jun 13 201415:52Vernon Davis will report to Niners minicamp
Vernon Davis confirmed to 95.7 The Game in San Francisco that he'll report to mandatory minicamp next week.
Davis expressed displeasure with his contract by skipping OTAs, but he's not interested in forfeiting money by missing mandatory work. "You know what? I plan on being there," he said. "I plan on being there." It's good news for the 49ers, and an indication Davis will not hold out of training camp. Davis, 30, is owed a $4.7 million salary this season. He's a top-five fantasy TE1.

Thu Jun 5 201418:15Vernon Davis: I want to retire a 49er
Vernon Davis says he wants to retire a 49er.
"I've expressed that to them," Davis said. "For some reason, we can't get that done." Davis also said he approached the team about a new deal last season, and that it said it would "get back to (him)." They have yet to do so. Davis has already he'll likely be at mandatory minicamp. Signed through 2015, his contract is not a pressing issue for San Francisco, especially since he's not taking a hard line.

Thu Jun 5 201411:36Vernon hints he'll be at mandatory minicamp
Vernon Davis hinted that he will show up for the 49ers mandatory minicamp on June 17-19.
"If it's mandatory, I think I should be there," Davis said. It confirms that the Pro Bowl tight end is not planning on taking a hard line with his desire for a new contract, and fantasy owners shouldn't have to worry about a training camp holdout. "Every decision that I make is in the best interest of my brand," said Davis, who has two years remaining on the six-year, $42.7 million contract he signed in 2010.

Wed Jun 4 201421:23Vernon Davis may be away from 49ers 'awhile'
A source told CSN Bay Area the 49ers' coaching staff is under the impression Vernon Davis might be away from the team for "awhile."
Davis skipped OTAs and was noncommittal late last week when asked if he'll show for June's minicamp. A source told beat writer Matt Maicco new TEs coach Eric Mangini "told his group of tight ends that this is an opportune time for them to make an impression because it might be awhile before Davis reports to the team." It's still to early to about a training camp holdout.

Fri May 30 201419:40Vernon Davis unsure if he'll attend minicamp
Vernon Davis was non-committal Friday on if he'll show up for June's minicamp.
"I might be there," Davis said. "I might not. It's mandatory. I probably should. We'll see." Davis is skipping OTAs due to a contract dispute, forfeiting his $200,000 workout bonus. He would incur $70,000 in fines if he misses mandatory camp. Signed to a five-year extension in 2010, Davis is owed base salaries of of $4.7 million and $4.35 million over the next two seasons.
