Sat Mar 22 2014 | 14:24 | Vikings interested in LaRod Stephens-Howling |
The Vikings have expressed interest in free agent RB/KR LaRod Stephens-Howling. |
With Toby Gerhart gone, the Vikings are looking to add depth behind Adrian Peterson. Stephens-Howling shouldn't require more than a veteran minimum deal coming off ACL surgery, and could be a fit on special teams and in a third-down role. Matt Asiata, Bradley Randle and Joe Banyard are the only running backs on the Vikings roster behind Peterson. |

Sat Feb 8 2014 | 14:17 | Steelers could re-sign RB Stephens-Howling |
ESPN.com's Scott Brown expects the Steelers to re-sign free agent RB/KR LaRod Stephens-Howling. |
Stephens-Howling missed nearly the entire season due to ACL surgery, but is five months removed from the injury and could be ready for the start of training camp. The Steelers don't currently have any running backs on their roster behind Le'Veon Bell, with Stephens-Howling, Jonathan Dwyer, and Felix Jones all free agents. Stephens-Howling would be strictly a depth signing if brought back and will only require a non-guaranteed, veteran minimum contract. |

Sun Sep 8 2013 | 21:50 | Steelers RB/KR Stephens-Howling tears ACL |
Steelers RB/KR La'Rod Stephens-Howling is out for the season with a torn ACL. |
Not only did Pittsburgh lose its home opener to the Titans, the Steelers lost C Maurkice Pouncey, ILB Larry Foote, and Stephens-Howling to year-ending injuries. A somewhat dynamic scatback and Pro Bowl-caliber return specialist, Stephens-Howling's loss will be felt more in real life than fantasy. But it's a big blow. Look for the Steelers to continue to lean on Isaac Redman and Felix Jones in the backfield until Le'Veon Bell (foot) returns. They may consider re-signing Baron Batch or Jonathan Dwyer, though it's also possible the Steelers turned the page on Dwyer for good at final cuts. |

Sun Sep 8 2013 | 15:14 | La'Rod Stephens-Howling done for day |
La'Rod Stephens-Howling left Sunday's Week 1 game against the Titans in the third quarter with a knee injury and will not return. |
It's a tough blow for Stephens-Howling because he was operating as the feature back in the second half. Isaac Redman and Felix Jones had both been benched for ineffectiveness. LSH finishes with six carries for 19 yards and two catches for 11 yards. The severity of his knee injury is unknown, but there's a decent chance the Steelers are leaning heavily on Le'Veon Bell by the time Stephens-Howling gets back. |

Sun Sep 1 2013 | 12:46 | Steelers backfield to be 'division of labor' |
The Steelers' website expects a "division of labor" in the running game until Le'Veon Bell (foot) returns. |
Beat writer Bob Labriola expects Isaac Redman and Felix Jones to "share the bulk of the carries from scrimmage," while La'Rod Stephens-Howling plays on obvious passing downs and is used some as a ball carrier in space. It'll be a value-draining fantasy situation, to be sure. Look for the Steelers to throw more early in the season as their best way to generate ball movement. |

Fri Aug 23 2013 | 16:27 | Stephens-Howling may be done for preseason |
Steelers RB La'Rod Stephens-Howling may miss the rest of the preseason with a "mild" MCL sprain. |
This explains the acquisition of Felix Jones, who still may be no more than a camp body until September's final cuts. Stephens-Howling does seem likely to be back for Week 1. He's a scatback, third-down specialist, and return man. |

Sat Aug 10 2013 | 22:03 | Stephens-Howling goes off for 40 yards |
La'Rod Stephens-Howling had seven carries for 40 yards in Saturday night's preseason game. |
With Le'Veon Bell inactive, Stephens-Howling saw playing time with the first team offense and was used in a committee with Isaac Redman. He managed a pair of long runs in the Steelers' no-huddle offense and averaged 5.7 yards-per-carry. Because of his special teams value, Stephens-Howling is a strong candidate for the 53-man roster. |

Free agent RB La'Rod Stephens-Howling is visiting the Steelers Wednesday. |
The Steelers currently only have plodders (Jonathan Dwyer, Isaac Redman, Baron Batch) in the their backfield. The 5'7/185 Stephens-Howling could fill a scatback role and pitch in on kick returns. "Hyphen" is from Johnstown, Pa. and played his college ball at Pitt. |

Mon Mar 11 2013 | 18:00 | Cardinals won't be bringing back LSH |
The Cardinals made free agent RB La'Rod Stephens-Howling an offer last week, but it reportedly "wasn't close" to what he was seeking. |
Stephens-Howling may be overrating his potential market. At 5'7/185, he's just a luxury third-down back and return man for a creative NFL team. At this point, the Arizona republic does not expect LSH back with the Cardinals. They appear prepared to roll with Ryan Williams plus a back they add via free agency or the draft. |

Sun Mar 10 2013 | 13:15 | Lions interested in three backup backs |
MLive.com says to "keep your eye on" free agent RBs La'Rod Stephens-Howling, Danny Woodhead, and Felix Jones for the Lions. |
All three players would be fallback plans if the Lions swing and miss on Reggie Bush or if Bush's salary demands prove to be too high. Stephens-Howling showed in 2012 he can carry some of the load, and he would be a nice, cheap alternative. Woodhead is likely looking to re-up in New England, while Jones is too injury-prone for the Lions' tastes. |

Sat Feb 23 2013 | 11:34 | No talks between Arizona and Stephens-Howling |
The agent for unrestricted free agent RB La'Rod Stephens-Howling saids last time he talked to team, Rod Graves was GM. |
Graves was relieved of his GM duties nearly two months ago, so it comes as a bit of a surprise that the new regime hasn't reached out to Stephens-Howling's camp. While "Hyphen" is expected to re-sign with Arizona, this news certainly places his future with the team in question. |

Tue Feb 19 2013 | 17:34 | Arians won't feature RBs as pass catchers |
New Cardinals coach Bruce Arians doesn't plan to heavily utilize his running backs as pass catchers. |
"They are back there because they are runners and pass protectors," Arians said. "Will we throw to the backs? Yeah. But the receivers are the ones paid to catch it." How the Cardinals' running back corps will look in 2013 remains a mystery, but this is something to file away if you're a La'Rod Stephens-Howling owner in a Dynasty league. A free agent, "Hyphen" is expected to re-up in Arizona. |

Mon Feb 18 2013 | 18:33 | Cards could have interest in re-signing LSH |
AzCardinals.com thinks La'Rod Stephens-Howling is near the top of the list of the team's own free agents they'd like to re-sign. |
Beat writer Darren Urban names Stephens-Howling and CB Greg Toler as the team's key free agents, and he notes that the old regime was interested in re-signing the diminutive back. "Hyphen" started five games at running back last season, and he didn't make a fool of himself, as he rushed for 356 yards and four touchdowns behind an abysmal offensive line. |

Mon Dec 31 2012 | 00:22 | Stephens-Howling gets one carry in loss |
La'Rod Stephens-Howling rushed for negative-one yard on one carry in Week 17 versus the 49ers. |
"Hyphen" was given ample opportunity to present himself as a ball carrier in 2012, but he simply wasn't cut out for the work at 5-foot-7 and 185 pounds. The return specialist rushed a career-high 111 times for 357 yards and four touchdowns while adding 17 catches for 106 yards over the course of the year. Now, Stephens-Howling is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. If he's brought back, it should be as no higher than the No. 3 running back. |

Wed Dec 26 2012 | 12:30 | La'Rod Stephens-Howling to test the market |
The Cardinals' official website expects impending free agent La'Rod Stephens-Howling to test the market this spring. |
The Cardinals would be silly to offer a 5'7/185 change-of-pace back an extension at this point. Stephens-Howling is unlikely to attract a significant payday on the open market. Arizona's backfield picture for 2013 will become clearer once Beanie Wells' fate is determined. |

Sun Dec 23 2012 | 20:49 | Stephens-Howling gets 12 touches in Week 16 |
La'Rod Stephens-Howling rushed 11 times for 20 yards and caught one pass for a loss of three in Arizona's Week 16 loss to Chicago. |
Stephens-Howling is ordinarily the Cardinals' third-down back, but his role increased against the Bears after Beanie Wells' fumble-induced benching. LSH has some big-play ability when blocking frees him into the open field, but he had no such opportunities in Week 16. The roles in Arizona's backfield are all up in the air heading to Week 17 at San Francisco. |

Wed Nov 28 2012 | 18:31 | La'Rod Stephens-Howling not on injury report |
La'Rod Stephens-Howling (ribs) is absent from the Week 13 injury. |
It's a bizarre development after LSH disappeared for the majority of Sunday's loss. The Cardinals' official website reported Monday that LSH was "clearly" having issues with his ribs against the Rams. As it is, "Hyphen" is now on track to serve as Beanie Wells' change-of-pace back against the Jets. Regardless of his injury report status, however, he'll be hard to trust as a flex option in PPR leagues. |

Mon Nov 26 2012 | 08:44 | Stephens-Howling was having rib issues |
The Cardinals' official site says that La'Rod Stephens-Howling was "clearly" having issues with his sore ribs during Sunday's loss to the Rams. |
Stephens-Howling touched the ball once in the first quarter and then gave way to William Powell on third downs. Powell ended up with six catches and three carries as rookie quarterback Ryan Lindley entered check-down mode. LSH's status going forward is unknown. |
