Peralta hit his first home run of the season Sunday, going 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI in the win over Cincinnati.

Peralta is hitting well to start the season as he'll look to keep things going after a very good 2014 in which he played 157 games. The shortstop offers solid power at a position where it's hard to come by and should be a fixture in the St. Louis lineup day in and day out if he remains healthy.

Peralta went 0-for-1 with two strikeouts Sunday in the opener against the Cubs.

The Cardinals face Jake Arrieta on Wednesday, and Peralta has a .313/.353/.438 slash line in 17 plate appearances against the Cubs' hurler, so he may be a decent play in daily leagues.

Peralta was a late scratch from Sunday's starting lineup.

Peralta was in the original starting lineup, but was scratched after the Cardinals clinched the NL Central division following Pittsburgh's loss to the Reds. Yadier Molina, Matt Carpenter, Matt Holliday and Jon Jay will take a seat as well.

Peralta went 3-for-5 with three RBI against the Diamondbacks on Friday night, as he singled in the game-winning run in the 10th inning.

While Peralta (.262/.337/.443) remains inconsistent as a hitter from season-to-season, he always manages to stay consistent with his runs and RBI production. Peralta now has 74 RBI on the year and will again be a reliable mid-to-late round fantasy draft choice in 2015.

Peralta launched home run number 21 in leading the Cardinals over the Rockies on Sunday.

The home run was his only hit in four at-bats as it broke a 1-1 tie and put the Cardinals ahead for good in the third inning. Peralta has played plus defense and has been a leader on offense as well, slashing .264/.340/.456 on the season.

Peralta is out of the lineup Wednesday, Fox Sports Midwest reports.

Pete Kozma will get a rare start at shortstop to give Peralta well-deserved day off. A shortstop who has 20 home runs, 66 RBI and a .266/.342/.456 slash line is a pretty rare commodity in fantasy. What makes Peralta's season even more valuable is he was dirt cheap on draft day. The primary reason for this is that, while we've seen 20 homer seasons from him before, he had only hit 24 total big flies in his previous two seasons (257 games) combined.

He's now hit in three straight games. He also has two homers in that span. After a hot August that saw him hit .333, Peralta is batting just .136 in September.

It looks like manager Mike Matheny is just being mindful not to overexert the 32-year-old Peralta by playing him in both games of the twin bill. Daniel Descalso will take over at short in his absence.

Peralta has been hot of late, going 15-for-40 with two home runs, three doubles and eight RBI in his last 10 games. As a result, Peralta has raised his season slash line to .266/.340/.458 in the process.

Peralta was the hero Monday, hitting a walk-off single in the tenth inning of a 3-for-5 night against the Reds.

Peralta has been scorching of late, slashing .349/.397/.540 in August with eight multi-hit games.

Peralta hit his 16th home run of the season, going 1-for-4 with 2 RBI in the win over San Diego.

With the home run Peralta ties the Cardinals record for single-season home runs by a short stop. Considering how bad the shortstop position has been this year in fantasy, Peralta has provided solid value as a late round pick, slashing .260/.335/.447 for the Cardinals.

Peralta finished 3-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored to help St. Louis beat Baltimore on Sunday.

Peralta also drew a walk in the victory. The shortstop has been excellent so far in August, hitting .296/.367/.519 in nine games, and he's been even hotter over his last three appearances, collecting seven hits (including three doubles) in his past 14 at-bats.

Giants left fielder Tyler Colvin lost Peralta's first-inning drive in the sun, but it didn't end up mattering because it wound up in the seats. While he's hitting just .241, Peralta has made his base knocks count, leading the Cardinals both in homers (12) and doubles (23).

Aside from hitting for power -- the 32-year-old has 10 home runs and 19 doubles on the year -- Peralta has struggled offensively through much of the first half. The shortstop is hitting .240/.317/.427 through 74 games.

Peralta hit a long bomb to left field in the third and nearly had his second longball in as many at-bats when he doubled off the wall in the fifth. It's been a streaky season for the shortstop, but his 10 home runs give him four more than any other Cardinals player.
