Thu Jun 21 201211:26Tigers promote Jacob Turner for Thurs. start
Tigers recalled RHP Jacob Turner from Triple-A Toledo.
Turner posted a brutal 8.53 ERA in 12 2/3 major-league innings last season and hasn't dominated this year at Triple-A. But he is Detroit's best option at the moment. The 21-year-old St. Louis native should be avoided in fantasy leagues Thursday against the Cardinals.

Sun Jun 17 201213:39Turner to make major league debut Thursday
Jacob Turner will make his major league debut Thursday against the Cardinals.
He's taking the spot vacated by Drew Smyly in the Tigers' rotation. A former first round pick, Turner was a favorite to make the Opening Day roster, but missed the beginning of the season with a "dead-arm period." He currently has a 3.43 ERA and 27 strikeouts in seven starts at the Triple-A level, and will look to hold down a roster spot while Smyly is on the disabled list.

Tue Apr 24 201208:46Tigers' Jacob Turner impresses in first start
Tigers prospect right-hander Jacob Turner tossed four innings of no-hit ball Monday with High-A Lakeland.
It was his first start since he was shut down with tendinitis in his right shoulder. Turner walked two and didn't record a strikeout, but it was obviously an encouraging performance. The 20-year-old right-hander had a 3.44 ERA and 110/35 K/BB ratio in 131 innings last year between Double-A and Triple-A and could find his way to the majors at some point this summer.

Mon Mar 26 201208:43Tigers option Jacob Turner to Triple-A Toledo
Tigers optioned RHP Jacob Turner to Triple-A Toledo.
Turner was in the running for the final spot in the Tigers' starting rotation, but he came down with a bit of shoulder tendinitis earlier this month and wasn't able to recover in time. The talented 20-year-old right-hander should be first in line for a call-up if something goes wrong with one of the starters in Detroit. He registered a cool 3.44 ERA and 110/35 K/BB ratio in 131 innings last year between Double-A and Triple-A.

Fri Mar 23 201218:45Turner (shoulder) throws bullpen session
Tigers prospect Jacob Turner (shoulder) threw about 30 pitches Friday during a bullpen session.
Turner is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Sunday, after which he could return to game action. The 20-year-old right-hander was originally in the mix for the fifth spot in the starting rotation, but his recent bout with shoulder tendinitis should be enough to punch his ticket to the minors.

Tigers' prospect right-hander Jacob Turner (shoulder) played catch Tuesday from a distance of 120 feet.
Turner was shut down last week due to tendinitis in his throwing shoulder, but he's happy with the progress he has made over the past few days. "Yeah, I was playing catch yesterday and my arm felt good," said Turner. "It's been a step in the right direction. It's nice to see the treatment paying off." The 20-year-old is expected to extend his long-toss drills on Wednesday, but there's no timetable for him to resume throwing from the mound.

Wed Mar 14 201209:43Jacob Turner dealing with shoulder tendinitis
Tigers' prospect right-hander Jacob Turner has been shut down this week with tendinitis in his throwing shoulder.
Tigers' manager Jim Leyland said Tuesday that Turner was going through a "dead-arm period," but didn't specify any sort of injury. The 20-year-old showed decreased velocity in Monday's outing, but rival executives told ESPN's Buster Olney that the velocity drop actually dates back to late last year. The Tigers don't view the situation as serious, but it's not clear when he'll resume throwing.

Tue Mar 13 201217:44Jacob Turner shut down with dead arm
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Monday that they are backing off prospect right-hander Jacob Turner for a few days because he is going through a "dead-arm period."
Turner's velocity was down during Monday's start against the Mets, in which he was knocked around for six runs -- five earned -- over 1 2/3 innings. The 20-year-old entered spring training as a possible candidate for the fifth starter job, but it's increasingly likely that he'll open the season in the minors.

Mon Mar 12 201217:00Jacob Turner gets pounded by Mets
Jacob Turner was lit up by the Mets on Monday, surrendering six runs -- five earned -- in 1 2/3 innings.
Lucas Duda delivered a grand slam off him. Turner didn't give up any runs in his first two spring appearances, but he had been wild, walking four in 2 1/3 innings. Just 20 years old, he may need some minor league time at the beginning of the year.

Sat Dec 31 201119:07Tigers willing to deal prospect Justin Turner
According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Tigers are willing to trade pitching prospect Justin Turner.
Olney says the Tigers want "the right pitcher" in return for the 20-year-old Turner, who registered a 3.44 ERA and 110/35 K/BB ratio in 131 innings this past year between Double-A and Triple-A. Detroit is known to have interest in Cubs right-hander Matt Garza, but the Marlins and other teams are also in that hunt. Look for trade activity to pick up in early January.

Thu Sep 22 201122:03Jacob Turner struggles again
Jacob Turner didn't have it against the Orioles Thursday, allowing five runs -- four earned -- on seven hits and a walk over just three innings.
He was tagged for a pair of homers and didn't strike out a batter. The top prospect has now allowed 10 earned runs over his last 7 1/3 innings, though given the long layoff between appearances and fact that he's probably wearing down, it's not too surprising that he struggled. Despite an 8.53 ERA in his three major league appearances, Turner had a terrific minor league season and should compete for a rotation spot next year.

Tue Sep 20 201117:32Turner to start against Orioles on Thursday
Jacob Turner will start against the Orioles on Thursday.
He'll take the place of Doug Fister, who will pitch in relief of Max Scherzer on Wednesday. Turner has allowed eight runs over 9 2/3 innings with the Tigers this season, but has plenty of promise and could be worth a look in AL-only leagues with the favorable matchup.

Fri Sep 2 201109:51Turner remaining with Tigers
Jacob Turner will remain with the Tigers through the end of the season.
However, he will only "get the nod" as a starter "in case of an emergency." Turner turned in a poor spot-start against the Royals on Thursday, allowing six runs in just 4 1/3 innings. He's not currently worth an own in redraft AL-only formats.

Thu Sep 1 201117:19Jacob Turner roughed up by Royals
Jacob Turner was tagged for six runs in 4 1/3 innings by the Royals on Thursday.
The 20-year-old didn't impress in his second spot start for the Tigers, and it's unclear whether he'll get any additional opportunities. The team doesn't want him throwing too many more innings this year.

Thu Sep 1 201109:16Tigers recall RHP Turner from minors
Tigers recalled RHP Jacob Turner from Triple-A Toledo.
As expected, he'll make the spot-start Thursday in a promising matchup against the Royals. Turner, 20, made his major league debut in late-July, giving up two runs over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Angels. The Tigers plan to keep him around during the month of September in case they need an extra starter, but it's possible he could pitch in relief in order to stay fresh.

Sun Aug 28 201117:35Turner is scheduled to start on Thursday
Jacob Turner is scheduled to be recalled to start for Detroit on Thursday.
He'll face the Royals at home and might be worth a look in deeper AL-only leagues. With rosters expanding on Thursday, Detroit will take the opportunity to give Justin Verlander an extra day's rest. The 20-year-old was promising in his major league debut late last month, giving up two runs over 5 1/3 innings against the Angels. It's unclear how many more innings the Tigers will allow him to pitch before they shut him down for the season.

Sat Jul 30 201119:38Jacob Turner handed loss in MLB debut
Jacob Turner took the loss in his major league debut Saturday, giving up two runs over 5 1/3 innings innings against the Angels.
Hard to complain about this one. Turner allowed three hits and three walks while striking out six. He threw 57 out of 96 pitches for strikes before getting pulled in the sixth. This was a nice sneak preview for Tigers fans and fantasy owners, but he's expected to head back to the minors following the acquisition of Doug Fister.
