1B Mark Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a single and a walk Monday in his first Opening Day start since 2013. He had a strong spring showing, hitting .347 with three homers and 10 RBIs. Reynolds, a right-hander hitter, started against D-backs RHP Zack Greinke ahead of left-handed-hitting 1B Ben Paulsen. "Veteran guy, and Greinke is tough on both left and right," Colorado manager Walt Weiss said of the decision. "It is not an extreme split situation, so that is why I went with Mark."

Reynolds came off the bench to hit his 13th home run, a two-run shot that guided the Cardinals to a 3-0 victory over the Pirates on Monday.

The long ball was Reynolds' first since Aug. 30, as the first baseman entered Monday going homerless in 31 at-bats. The Cardinals have already clinched a playoff berth, and Reynolds will be relied upon to continue providing power in a reserve role.

Reynolds is out of the lineup Sunday against the Reds.

Injuries have resulted in Reynolds seeing more time at third base of late, but with Kolten Wong now healthy again, Reynolds should see most of his at-bats at first base going forward. However, he's still behind Brandon Moss on the depth chart and could also lose out on the occasional start at first base to Stephen Piscotty, as is the case Sunday.

Reynolds (wrist) was a late addition to Monday's lineup against the Cubs.

Reynolds will join the lineup after Kolten Wong was scratched with calf tightness, starting at third base and batting eighth for the Cardinals. It's the first time the veteran will rejoin the starting lineup since suffering a wrist contusion last Tuesday, but it's unlikely that his absence was completely related to the issue.

Reynolds won't start for the fifth straight game Sunday, but it may no longer be injury-related given his appearances in each of the past two contests as a pinch hitter. Brandon Moss will once again receive the start at third base, batting sixth for the Cardinals.

Reynolds left Tuesday's contest with a right wrist contusion and will now be held out of the lineup for the second straight game as a result. He appears to still be day-to-day, but Brandon Moss will get the start at first base Friday and bat fifth in his stead.

This comes as no surprise, as Reynolds left Tuesday's game with a wrist contusion, and Brandon Moss is a perfectly adequate replacement option. Reynolds is day-to-day in advance of this weekend's series against the Pirates.

X-rays were negative after Reynolds left and was replaced by Tommy Pham, with Brandon Moss moving to first base. Look for Moss to get the nod at first base if Reynolds remains out of action Wednesday.

Reynolds had seen all but two of the starts at first base in the last two weeks, but he'll sit as Brandon Moss takes the field.

Reynolds walked and hit his 11th home run of the season in three plate appearances on Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

That's now two homers in 11 days after not hitting a home run from Jul. 22 Aug. 14. Even with the recent power surge, Reynolds has driven in just six runs during the month of August thanks in large part to his spot in the bottom of the batting order --- he's batted sixth, seventh or eighth in the batting order 11 of the past 12 games.

Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a 9-3 loss to San Diego on Saturday.

Reynolds has only one homer since July 21 and that's the major reason why fantasy owners own him in NL-only formats. The average is too low and the strikeouts are too high to trust him right now and the Cardinals needs to see more if he's going to keep playing with Matt Adams beginning a rehab assignment soon.

Reynolds will make his third consecutive start at first base in Sunday's game against the Marlins.

The Cardinals' trade deadline acquisition of Moss was expected to phase Reynolds out, but that has yet to come to fruition. In fact, it looks like Reynolds might even be the team's preferred option at first base for the time being, as Moss has struggled mightily (.147 batting average) since joining St. Louis. As usual, Reynolds will remain a risk in the average department while seeing regular action, but he does offer enough pop to remain relevant in NL-only formats.

Reynolds had one of his good nights at the plate in Saturday's win over Miami, going 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and two runs scored.

That home run was Reynolds' first since July 21. He's performed roughly to expectations in 2015, hitting .234/.310/.402 with 10 dingers, mostly off the bench. He's only seen five starts since St.Louis acquired Brandon Moss, so don't expect that bench role to change.

Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored in a 3-1 win over Miami on Friday. He was also caught stealing.

The steal came in the eighth with pitcher Jaime Garcia batting, so it's all a matter of circumstance. This is only his third start since August 4, so it appears his playing time is dwindling along with his average. Reynolds is still valuable in NL-only formats, but doesn't maintain much value outside of those formats.

Reynolds is out of the Cardinals' lineup Thursday against the Royals.

Reynolds is receiving his first respite since the All-Star break, which has been a productive week for the 31-year-old. In 19 at-bats, he's tallied one long ball, two RBI, and three runs scored. However, he'll yield first-base duties to Stephen Piscotty on Thursday.

Reynolds is back in the lineup Saturday against the Pirates.

Reynolds was left out of Friday's lineup, but came in to pinch hit in the seventh inning. He'll draw back in Saturday against A.J Burnett. In 13 career at-bats against Burnett, Reynolds has collected five hits, three of which were home runs, and four RBI.
