Casilla (shin) pitched an inning of relief Wednesday and showed no signs of the shin contusion that he suffered a week ago.
Casilla had a bit of a scare during a live batting practice session on February 26 when Casey McGehee drilled a ball off of the closer's shin. The injury was never considered serious, and Casilla's appearance in Wednesday's game further proved that theory. He should be fine going forward and is currently penciled in to be the Giants' closer to start the year.

Casilla was hit on the left foot by a Casey McGehee line drive during live batting practice Thursday but merely suffered a contusion, Chris Haft of MLB.com reports.
The incident provided a bit of a scare, but Casilla walked off under his own power and manager Bruce Bochy later confirmed that the right-hander escaped with just a bruise. Casilla recorded 16 saves over the final three months of the 2014 season after taking over closer duties from Sergio Romo, and then turned in nine scoreless appearances in the postseason en route to a World Series win. He's expected to serve as the team's endgame option this upcoming season.

Casilla picked up his 18th save of the season Thursday, tossing a clean inning in the win over San Diego.
Casilla has been brilliant ever since taking over for Sergio Romo as the closer mid-season. He has converted 18-of-22 save opportunities to compliment his 1.73 ERA on the season.

Casilla pitched two perfect frames Monday, picking up the win in an extra-inning game versus the Dodgers.
The Giants went with Casilla in the 11th inning of a tie game, paving the way for rookie Hunter Strickland to earn his first career save. The situation was an oddity in an extra-inning affair. Casilla is still firmly entrenched as the closer.

Casilla struck out a pair during a scoreless inning against the D-backs on Wednesday to record his 17th save of the season.
Sergio Romo tossed a scoreless eighth and was credited with a win Wednesday. As the Giants continue to push toward a playoff spot, Casilla remains in the ninth-inning role after replacing Romo in late June.

Casilla slammed the door on the Diamondbacks on Tuesday night, tossing a perfect ninth inning with one strikeout in the Giants' 2-1 win.
Casilla (16 saves, 1.86 ERA) has successfully converted 16 of 20 save opportunities, and while the Giants have recently stated he would share closing duties with Sergio Romo, he has clearly been their man when he's available.

Casilla struck out one during a scoreless ninth inning Saturday to earn his 15th save of the season.
Sergio Romo served up a solo home run in the eighth inning, and Casilla continues to handle the closer role capably for manager Bruce Bochy. As a result, he appears to be safely entrenched as the team's ninth-inning option for the stretch run.

Casilla picked up the save in Monday's make up against Colorado from a suspended game in May.
The save technically counts as his second of the season, but it pushed his total to 14 on the season. It was also his third-consecutive save since manager Bruce Bochy indicated he would split closing duties with Casilla and Sergio Romo. Romo hasn't seen a save opportunity since that statement, and he gave up the game-winning run to the Rockies in the nightcap. So it looks as if Casilla's role as the team's closer is relatively safe for now.

Casilla will share closing duties with Sergio Romo from here on out, CSNCalifornia.com reports.
Casilla picked up the save Saturday night against the Brewers, but not before making things interesting by a run on two hits and a hit by pitch. Though his numbers on the season remain sterling, Casilla has been only so-so since assuming closing duties in early July following Romo's ouster. Meanwhile, Romo has pitched dramatically better since moving to middle relief, and it appears he's regained the trust of manager Bruce Bochy. Both relievers should probably be held for now, but given Romo's proven success in the closer's role prior to this season, he should be viewed as the favorite to ultimately emerge as the victor in the job battle.

Casilla earned the save Saturday against the Brewers despite giving up two hits and a run.
That's back-to-back saves for Casilla, who is battling teammate Sergio Romo for the Giants' closer role. Romo came on in the eighth inning with two outs and struck out the only batter he faced on three pitches to earn the hold.

Casilla notched his 12th save with a scoreless ninth inning in the Giants' 4-1 win over Colorado on Thursday afternoon. He walked one in the outing.
Earlier San Francisco announced that Casilla (12 saves, 1.68 ERA) and Sergio Romo would share closing duties the rest of the way, but Romo pitched a scoreless eighth inning before Casilla came on to finish it off. Expect Romo to get an opportunity some time soon, but Casilla could still be the better bet if he stays out of trouble over his next few outings.

Casilla will share save opportunities with Sergio Romo for the rest of the season, CSN Bay Area reports.
Casilla's blown save Wednesday was his first since becoming the Giants' closer, but his 4.70 ERA over his last eight appearances is worrisome. Former closer Sergio Romo is touting a 2.08 ERA since being demoted from the closer role, so manager Bruce Bochy stated that he will use both pitchers in closing situations going forward. This obviously hurts Casilla's value in terms of seeing save opportunities.

Casilla (2-3) picked up the win after his fourth blown save of the season, allowing a run on one hit and one walk in the ninth inning Wednesday against the Rockies.
Casilla has Buster Posey to thank for a walk-off home run to get him off the hook after spoiling Tim Hudson's fantastic start. It was his first blown save since taking over as closer for the Giants. The right-hander hasn't been as sharp in August, sporting a 4.70 ERA over eight appearances.

Casilla took his third loss of the season on Friday against the Phillies in a non-save situation, as he gave up one run in 0.2 innings pitched while allowing one walk.
The poor outing for Casilla is now his third in a row, where he has given up at least one earned run. Casilla's numbers remain dominant (1.66 ERA and 0.920 WHIP) so this is likely just a small blip on the radar. Look for Casilla to get back on track for the Giants.

Casilla took the loss (1-2)against the White Sox Tuesday in a non-save situation, when he took the mound in the 10th inning after the Giants had tied the game in the bottom of the ninth. He allowed one run on two hits and one walk while also striking out two batters in his one inning of work.
This is the second game in a row that Casilla has given up a run and the third time in his last five appearances. All told, Casilla is 9-for-12 in save chances this year and boasts a stellar 1.48 ERA and 0.89 WHIP in 42.2 innings pitched.

Casilla gave up a solo home run in the ninth inning Wednesday against the Brewers in a non-save situation.
Khris Davis started off the ninth with a solo home run before Casilla struck out the next two batters and induced a ground out to seal the 7-4 victory. It's not clear why the Giants' closer was utilized with a four run lead. Casilla still sports a stellar 1.30 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and is 8-for-8 in save chances since taking over the role.

Casilla is now a perfect 8-for-8 in save opportunities since becoming the Giants' closer on July 5. He has a 0.96 ERA with a 9:2 K:BB ratio over that span.
Sat Jul 19 201422:19Giants' Casilla nails down fifth save of 2014
Santiago Casilla tallied his fifth save of the season Saturday as the Giants topped the Marlins.
Sergio Romo opened the ninth inning with the Giants up 5-1, but he allowed two runs so manager Bruce Bochy called on Casilla to close it out. The right-hander boasts a 1.01 ERA and 0.81 WHIP on the season, and he is poised to run away with the Giants' closer gig.
