Tue May 1 201223:48Torres has hit, RBI in losing effort
Andres Torres, in his second game back after his DL stint, went 1-for-4 and drove in a run in the Mets' loss to the Astros on Tuesday.
Torres now has three hits and a pair of RBI in his two games back, and looks well worthy of a pickup for those looking for speed in deeper leagues. When Jason Bay returns from his injury, the Mets will be forced to make some difficult decisions on how to split the time in the outfield between Bay, Torres, Lucas Duda and Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

Torres is likely to spend a few days in the minors, but that he stole two bases is a sign that his calf is feeling good. The Mets will have an interesting decision to make once he's ready, as rookie Kirk Nieuwhenhuis has played well during his absence.

Mon Apr 16 201220:20Mets taking it easy with Andres Torres
Mets assistant general manager John Ricco said the team is taking it slow with Andres Torres (calf) because they don't want him to have a setback.
Torres originally hurt the calf in spring training and was rushed back to action, only to aggravate the ailment on Opening Day. He hit off a tee, took soft-toss swings and played catch Monday and will do the same thing Tuesday. It's not clear when he'll start running again, but a return before May, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, "seems unlikely."

It's not clear how long he'll be out, but we're guessing it will probably be longer than the minimum 15 days. Tue Apr 3 201209:04Torres (calf) back in Mets' lineup Tuesday
Andres Torres will bat leadoff and play center field Tuesday against the Yankees.
As expected. The Mets are giving up the opportunity to backdate a potential disabled list stint by playing Torres in a Grapefruit League game, so they are taking the chance that he is fully recovered from his calf strain. Assuming he's 100 percent, Vinny Rottino will head down to the minors while Scott Hairston moves into a backup role.

Andres Torres (calf) will be ready for Opening Day.
Torres is scheduled to play in a Grapefruit League game Tuesday, meaning New York is forfeiting its option of placing him on the disabled list with a March retroactive date. The 34-year-old who batted just .221/.312/.330 with the Giants last season will start in center for the Mets, pushing Scott Hairston back to the bench.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Andres Torres (calf) ran "well" in a minor league game and the team hopes he'll be ready for Opening Day.
It's not a given, though, as the Mets are having Torres play in minor league games just in case they need to backdate a DL move. Scott Hairston would handle center field if Torres isn't ready.

Fri Mar 30 201216:42Torres (calf) feels 'awkward' in minors game
Mets' manager Terry Collins said that Andres Torres (calf) felt "awkward" while taking four at-bats during a minor league game Friday.
The Mets originally hoped to have Torres play in a Grapefruit League game on Saturday, but they have now decided to keep him on the minor league side so they still have the ability to backdate a potential DL-stint. If he is unable to start the season on time, Scott Hairston would start in center field while Vinny Rottino would make the team as a right-handed bat off the bench.

The Mets will carry a backup centerfielder and not rely on the likes of Adam Loewen and Mike Baxter.
