Sat May 28 2011 | 22:24 | League rebounding nicely for mid-May fiasco |
Brandon League has not allowed a hit in five consecutive scoreless outings after taking four straight losses between May 8-13. |
Quite a turnaround for the Mariners closer, who entered play on Saturday tied for the American League lead with 13 saves. His ERA is still an ugly 5.57, but is 1.50 if you don't count his four horrific mid-May outings. He's looking like a good fantasy bet going forward. |

Wed May 18 2011 | 02:50 | Brandon League pitches scoreless frame |
Pitching with his team down by a run, Brandon League turned in a scoreless ninth Tuesday against the Twins. |
It was his first appearance since he took his fourth straight loss on Friday. League, who gave up 10 runs over three innings in his previous four appearances, walked one in this one, but he still faced the minimum thanks to a double play. He remains Seattle's closer in spite of his struggles. |

Tue May 17 2011 | 19:54 | Brandon League is M's closer Tuesday |
Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Brandon League will be used in possible save situation Tuesday. |
In the midst of a slump, League was given a little mental break the last few days. He's blown his last three save chances but is still the top ninth inning option for the time being. |

Mon May 16 2011 | 19:44 | League given day off Monday |
Brandon League will get the day off Monday against the Twins. |
League hasn't pitched since Friday and the Mariners were rained out Sunday, but apparently Eric Wedge wants to give him more time to clear his head. Jamey Wright will get the ball should a save situation present itself. |

Sat May 14 2011 | 17:50 | Wedge says Brandon League remains his closer |
Manager Eric Wedge said Saturday that Brandon League remains his closer. |
League started the year 9-for-9 in save situations, but has since gone 0-4 with three blown saves and a 30.00 ERA in three innings. Still, with David Aardsma (elbow) possibly done for the year, Wedge knows that League remains his best option to close. If League can right the ship, he'll stick. If not, Wedge will have no choice but to turn to Jamey Wright. |

Sat May 14 2011 | 00:13 | League may get rest from closer role |
Mariners manager Eric Wedge indicated following Friday's game that Brandon League may be temporarily removed from the closer role. |
And it's easy to see why. League has given up 10 runs on 12 hits en route to four straight losses this week. "He started off like gangbusters, but he's had a tough three or four days," said Wedge. "We'll have to take a look at everything tomorrow and go from there." It's not clear where Wedge will turn in the ninth inning, but Jamey Wright and perhaps even David Pauley could be worth a look if you're hurting for saves. |

Thu May 12 2011 | 22:11 | Brandon League blows second save in a row |
Brandon League blew his second save in a row Thursday in the loss to the Orioles. |
It's the third straight rough outing for League, who allowed a leadoff single, hit two batters and got a lineout before J.J. Hardy ended the proceedings with a walk-off, two-run single. After allowing three runs over his first 14 appearances, the M's closer has now given up seven his last three times out to push his ERA up to 5.87. He's gone from a rock-solid stopper to a shaky one in a matter of days. Such is life in the ninth inning. |

Sat Apr 30 2011 | 22:39 | League earns save, now 7-for-7 on the season |
Brandon League earned his seventh save of the season Saturday in a 2-0 win over the Red Sox. |
League is now seven-for-seven in save opportunities this season and is sporting a 2.45 ERA and 0.91 WHIP through 11 innings of work. With David Aardsma (hip) still rehabbing at Triple-A Tacoma, the 28-year-old League continues to carry major value in fantasy leagues. |

Sun Apr 3 2011 | 00:27 | League earns first save as Mariners top A's |
Brandon League earned his first save of the season on Saturday evening against the A's. |
League delivered a perfect bottom half of the ninth inning after the M's offense rallied for three runs in the top of the frame. He's filling in for David Aardsma (hip surgery) for the first couple weeks of the season and is likely to regain fantasy value if Aardsma is dealt around the July deadline. League is worth a roster spot in all leagues. |

Thu Mar 31 2011 | 16:02 | Brandon League to close for Mariners |
Mariners manager Eric Wedge confirmed Thursday that Brandon League will be his closer for the early part of the season. |
This has been the assumption for a while, but Wedge hasn't made it official until now. Meanwhile, there's no timetable for David Aardsma's return from hip surgery. |

Thu Mar 24 2011 | 01:01 | League throws scoreless eighth vs. Rockies |
Brandon League tossed a scoreless eighth inning Wednesday in the Mariners' 6-5 loss to the Rockies. |
League struck out two of the three batters that he faced. The right-hander hasn't enjoyed the smoothest spring from a pitching standpoint, but the Mariners are going to use him in the ninth inning anyway until David Aardsma makes his way back from hip surgery. League should see a good amount of save chances throughout April. |

Tue Jan 18 2011 | 15:37 | M's, League avoid arbitration with 1-yr deal |
Mariners and RHP Brandon League avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year contract. |
Terms aren't immediately available, but League was set to see a raise from the $1.08 million salary he earned in 2010. League, who turns 28 in March, posted a 3.42 ERA and 56/27 K/BB ratio over 79 innings last season. He figures to be the in-house favorite for saves if David Aardsma misses the beginning of the season after hip surgery, or in the event that Aardsma is eventually traded. |

Sat Jul 31 2010 | 14:43 | Rays, Dodgers interested in League |
The Rays and Dodgers are interested in Brandon League, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. |
The Dodgers make sense, but we're not sure why the Rays would want to add another right-handed reliever after they just got Chad Qualls. They must be really worried about their depth in this regard with the injury to Grant Balfour. |
Thu Jul 8 2010 | 01:33 | Mariners' League takes sixth loss |
Brandon League was tagged with his fifth blown save and sixth loss after giving up three runs in the eighth Wednesday against the Royals. |
League also blew a lead Monday, and his ERA jumped from 2.93 to 3.95 during the series against the Royals. He has five wins to go along with those six losses, so it hasn't been all bad. Still, the Mariners would probably prefer to have Brandon Morrow back right about now. |
