Fri Jan 14 2011 | 21:55 | Thomas wins rebounding contest w/ Foster |
Kurt Thomas had just four points, but cleaned up a season-high 18 rebounds as the Bulls rolled the Pacers in Indy on Friday. |
Pacer Jeff Foster racked up 15 rebounds, which isn't surprising since the Pacers were shooting as if they didn't care. Neither big man has much fantasy appeal, but are at least worth keeping an eye on. With both of them killing it on the glass, Carlos Boozer managed just six rebounds tonight. |
Wed Dec 29 2010 | 10:10 | Thomas went to locker room with cut chin |
Kurt Thomas briefly had to leave Thursday's win over the Bucks with a cut on his chin. |
Thomas was still able to log 30 minutes, although he had just two points. The Bulls are showing no signs of removing him from the starting lineup and are 4-1 with him starting in place of Joakim Noah (thumb). Taj Gibson doesn't appear close to big minutes. |

Wed Dec 29 2010 | 00:17 | Thomas logs 30 minutes, Taj suffers |
Kurt Thomas started again on Tuesday, and played 30 minutes on his way to two points on 1-of-4 shooting, seven rebounds, one assist, and one block. |
He hasn't done much to deserve being owned, and is more of a nuisance to Taj Gibson's fantasy value than anything right now. Thomas could end up providing some low-end double-double value, but we'd make him prove himself before adding him. |
Fri Dec 24 2010 | 13:00 | Kurt Thomas to continue starting for Bulls |
Kurt Thomas will start again on Saturday and coach Tom Thibodeau hinted that he could stay in the starting lineup for a while. |
This means Taj Gibson will remain a reserve player, which dents his otherwise promising fantasy value with Joakim Noah sidelined. The veteran Thomas has averaged 34 minutes per game in two starts this season, and is worth a look if you need a borderline double-double and a few blocks. |

Wed Dec 22 2010 | 21:46 | Kurt Thomas starts for Bulls again |
Kurt Thomas started and had four points, seven rebounds, a steal and two blocks in Wednesday's win. |
Taj Gibson barely got off the bench tonight, so Thomas got plenty of run. But once Gibson is healthy and back to form, Thomas will likely go back to obscurity. |
Wed Dec 22 2010 | 00:44 | Thomas posts decent line in start |
Kurt Thomas started with Taj Gibson out with a concussion on Tuesday, and finished with 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting with eight rebounds, one assist, one steal, and five blocks in 28 minutes. |
The Bulls walked all over the Sixers in this one, and along with Gibson's injury, there is very little to glean from this outing. If he finds himself starting as an injury replacement again, you may consider him as a desperation option, but not much more. |
Tue Dec 21 2010 | 12:26 | Thomas to start Tuesday |
Kurt Thomas will start in Tuesday's game against the Sixers. |
With Joakim Noah (thumb) and Taj Gibson (concussion) sidelined, the Bulls are turning to the 38-year-old Thomas. He can still rebound at a plus level, but isn't a threat to score or block shots. Leave Thomas on waivers. |

Wed Oct 20 2010 | 22:21 | Thomas nearly double-doubles vs. Raptors |
Kurt Thomas scored 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting with eight rebounds and no assists in 28 minutes off the bench. |
Taj Gibson (foot) started and played just 16 minutes, and has a history of foot problems, so Thomas is worth keeping an eye on. He's certainly not worth a draft pick, however, as the cagey old vet will likely give way to Gibson at some point, and be worthless when Carlos Boozer returns. |
Fri Jul 23 2010 | 09:54 | Bulls agree to two-year deal w/ Kurt Thomas |
The Bulls have agreed to a two-year deal with big man Kurt Thomas. |
Thomas will replace Brad Miller, who signed with Houston, and back up Joakim Noah for the Bulls. He was instrumental for the Bucks against the Hawks in last year's playoffs, but won't see more than 10-15 minutes per night in Chicago, meaning he has no fantasy value. However, in reality, he's a nice pickup for the Bulls and will add some toughness off the bench. |

Tue Jul 6 2010 | 01:05 | Knicks reach out to veteran PF Kurt Thomas |
The Knicks have reached out to veteran PF/C Kurt Thomas. |
As the NY Daily News points out, Thomas and Marcus Camby are the only active players from the 1999 Knicks, who went to the Finals but lost in five games to the Spurs. The Bucks may try to re-sign their backup big man, and surely other teams are interested as well. Stay tuned. |

Thu Apr 8 2010 | 00:34 | Thomas double-doubles in second start |
In his second start since Andrew Bogut's season-ending injury, Kurt Thomas double-doubled with 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting with 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block in 27 minutes. |
This is an excellent outcome for him, and we're not surprised by these numbers at all. Between now and the end of the season expect him to have a few of these, and then a few games that are a little less productive, too. |
Tue Apr 6 2010 | 23:24 | Kurt Thomas anchors Bucks w/ Bogut out |
Kurt Thomas started at center in place of injured Andrew Bogut on Tuesday, getting four points, 14 rebounds, two assists and one block in 32 minutes. |
Thomas is averaging under 14 minutes per game this season, and Milwaukee will fill the void at center with a platoon involving Dan Gadzuric (13 minutes), Ersan Ilyasova (32 minutes), and maybe even Primoz Brezec (DNP-CD). Thomas may be worth a look if you can use 10-8-1 on a nightly basis. |
Tue Apr 6 2010 | 13:35 | Thomas expected to start |
Kurt Thomas is expected to start in place of Andrew Bogut (elbow) going forward. |
Thomas is 37 years old and an undersized center at 6'9/230. The 10 point, seven rebound, two block game he put up the night Bogut went down is pretty much his ceiling. Thomas is only an option for the most desperate of owners. |
