Sun Sep 11 2011 | 20:39 | Schwinden won't make another start this year |
The Mets will only use Cory Schwinden going forward if a starter is knocked out early and the club needs a long reliever. |
Schwinden gave up five runs in five innings Thursday against the Braves in his first career start. Mets manager Terry Collins is concerned that he is running out of gas after throwing the most innings of his professional career this season. The Mets are high on the 24-year-old right-hander, so he'll audition for a spot in the starting rotation during Spring Training. |

Cory Schwinden gave up five runs in five innings Thursday against the Braves in his first career start. |
Schwinden was able to give the Mets some innings after it looked like he might be knocked out early, but he still took the loss after leaving down 5-4 in what turned out to be a 6-5 game. He'll probably make a couple of more starts this month. |

Tue Sep 6 2011 | 16:24 | Schwinden to start Thursday vs. Braves |
Chris Schwinden will start the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Braves. |
As expected. Schwinden was called up from the minors Tuesday after posting a 3.95 ERA and 134/48 K/BB ratio over 26 starts with Triple-A Buffalo this season. The Mets are high on the 24-year-old right-hander, but fantasy owners shouldn't trust him right out of the gate. |
