Fri Aug 31 2012 | 18:02 | Alfonso Soriano homers in Cubs' victory |
Alfonso Soriano went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and three RBI to lead the Cubs to a 6-4 win over the Giants on Friday. |
Soriano's bomb off Madison Bumgarner gave him 24 homers and 82 RBI this season. While this still won't go down as one of Soriano's best seasons, he has a chance of establishing a new career high in RBI. Typically a leadoff man in his peak years, he's never driven in more than 104 runs. That might yet be out of reach, but he should get to 90 RBI for the first time since 2006. |

Fri Aug 31 2012 | 11:39 | Alfonso Soriano unlikely to go to Giants |
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that a deal sending Alfonso Soriano to the Giants is unlikely. |
It jibes with Ken Rosenthal's earlier report that the Giants are expected to stand pat in left field. Soriano nixed a deal to the Giants before the trade deadline, and it appears he still doesn't want to head west. Heyman does note that a trade over the offseason is possible. |

Alfonso Soriano told Patrick Mooney of CSN Chicago that he probably wouldn't accept a trade to the Giants. |
"I don't think so," said Soriano, who has 10-and-5 rights. He told the Cubs at the July 31 non-waiver deadline that he was not open to a move to San Francisco and it doesn't seem his mind has changed. The 36-year-old outfielder cleared waivers this week but might just stay put with the Cubs. |

Alfonso Soriano blasted a two-run homer in the eighth inning on Thursday, leading the Cubs to a 5-3 victory over the Reds. |
It was Soriano's only hit in four trips to the plate, but provided the critical blow in the game. With one-on and one-out, and the game tied at 3-3 in the eighth, Logan Ondrusek was called upon to face Soriano. After fouling off a tough two-strike pitch, he deposited one in the center field bleachers to give the Cubbies the lead and eventually the game. He's unexpectedly been a major fantasy asset this season, hitting .268 with 20 homers and 66 RBI. |

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Cubs are saying Alfonso Soriano will likely stay put past Tuesday's trade deadline. |
David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com is reporting that the Cubs and Tigers are "hard at work" on a trade that would send Soriano to Detroit, but a deal might be easier to accomplish in August. Soriano obviously wouldn't have a problem passing through waivers due to his monster contract. |

Tue Jul 31 2012 | 09:25 | Soriano tells Cubs where he'd accept deals |
While Alfonso Soriano has a full no-trade clause in his contract, he has reportedly informed the Cubs as to which teams he would be willing to accept a trade to. |
There have been no offers yet, but this will surely turn up the heat on a potential deal. The Cubs had discussions with the Giants earlier in the week, but Soriano informed them he wouldn't be willing to accept a trade there. The Dodgers are another possibility. The 36-year-old outfielder is still a very capable run producer, hitting .274/.324/.504 with 19 homers and 61 RBI on the season and could be the impact type of right-handed bat that many teams are coveting. |

Mon Jul 30 2012 | 13:23 | Soriano part of talks between Cubs, Dodgers |
According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, Alfonso Soriano "remains part of" the negotiations between the Dodgers and Cubs involving Ryan Dempster. |
Soriano might not be attractive to most teams because of his age and massive contract, but the Dodgers just installed a new ownership ground with deep pockets and he'd be an upgrade to their top-heavy lineup. The 36-year-old outfielder has posted a respectable .832 OPS, 19 home runs and 61 RBI in 93 games played this year. He's owed $18 million in each of the next two seasons. |

Sat Jul 28 2012 | 16:35 | Soriano has two-run triple in win |
Alfonso Soriano had a two-run triple in Saturday's win over Cardinals. |
The triple, which was Soriano's first of the season, gave the Cubs a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Cardinals came back to tie it in the sixth, but the Cubs moved ahead for good with a bunt single by Reed Johnson in the seventh. As for Soriano, he's now batting .274 with 19 home runs, 61 RBI and an .833 OPS in 92 games played this season. There's a chance he could be dealt before Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline, but the Cubs would have to eat most of his remaining contract. The 36-year-old is still owed $18 million in each of the next two seasons. |

Fri Jul 27 2012 | 13:08 | Dodgers/Cubs discussing Soriano, LaHair |
Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports that that Dodgers and Cubs have had discussions about including Alfonso Soriano or Bryan LaHair in a potential Ryan Dempster deal. |
It's unlikely to happen, though, with Knobler being told by one person briefed on the discussions that the inclusion of either hitter would be a "massive longshot." The Cubs are desperate to send Dempster to the Dodgers, as they might be the only team he's approved a trade to, but it doesn't appear that the Dodgers are willing to budge on what they'll give up. |
