Tue Apr 24 2012 | 13:14 | Jason Bay placed on DL with fractured rib |
Mets placed OF Jason Bay on the 15-day disabled list with a nondisplaced fracture of a rib on the left side. |

Fri Apr 20 2012 | 22:54 | Bay homers in losing effort |
Jason Bay went 2-for-5 including his third home run of the season as the Mets fell to the Giants on Friday. |
Bay's solo blast in the fourth came courtesy of fellow large contract albatross Barry Zito. While the average is lacking, Bay has shown some impressive power early in the season. Though he won't produce the elite numbers he was once capable of, he may still have value as a fourth or fifth outfielder in deeper leagues. |

Mon Apr 2 2012 | 09:15 | Bay could be pushed into LF platoon |
A Mets official suggested to Mike Puma of the New York Post that Jason Bay could be demoted into a platoon in left field if he struggles early this season. |
Bay batted just .245/.329/.374 with 12 home runs and 57 RBI in 123 games last year and went 8-for-41 (.195) this spring in the Grapefruit League. If that lack of production trickles into the 2012 regular season, the Mets may call up lefty-swinging Kirk Nieuwenhuis from Triple-A Buffalo to share time in left field. |

Tue Mar 20 2012 | 22:01 | Bay and Valdespin to get looks in CF |
Mets manager Terry Collins indicated after Tuesday's game that he will likely experiment with Jason Bay and infield prospect Jordany Valdespin in center field now that Andres Torres is sidelined with a calf strain. |
Adam Loewen replaced Torres in Tuesday's game and Josh Satin is already slated to start in center on Wednesday, but Collins wants as many options as possible. Bay hasn't played center field since 2005 as a member of the Pirates while Valdespin has never played the position as a professional. Collins considers Scott Hairston as the primary alternative to Torres, but he's currently working his way back from an oblique strain. If both players are sidelined going into the season, it's likely they'll go with Loewen. |

Mets manager Terry Collins said Tuesday that Jason Bay (illness) is likely done for the season. |
Bay is dealing with some weakness due to his recent illness. While he played better down the stretch, the 33-year-old outfielder has been a massive disappointment over his first two seasons with the Mets, batting just .251 with a .723 OPS and 18 homers over 910 plate appearances. He is still owed $16 million each of the next two seasons and either a $17 million club option or $3 million buyout for 2014. |
