David Murphy is out of the starting lineup Thursday against the Blue Jays.
Sounds like a routine day off, though Murphy's recent struggles make it easier to sit him down. Nelson Cruz will start in left field while Mitch Moreland plays right.

Fri Apr 1 201120:01Murphy has go-ahead double in win
David Murphy hit a go-ahead two-run double in Friday's 9-5 win over the Red Sox.
Let the controversy begin. Murphy pinch-hit for Julio Borbon in the bottom of the eighth inning and poked one down the left field line to put the Rangers in front for good. Ron Washington plans to use Borbon as his starting center fielder, but he always has the option to move Josh Hamilton back and play Murphy in left field, instead.

Wed Mar 23 201112:20Murphy starting in center field Wednesday
David Murphy is starting in center field in Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Interesting. Murphy has been told he will get more looks in center field as Julio Borbon's defensive issues have forced the Rangers to consider other options. The 29-year-old has been solid in the corners, but he has limited experience in center field. Josh Hamilton may very well see most of the time in center field again this season, but Murphy could at least present an alternative.

Wed Mar 2 201117:47David Murphy goes deep off Haren
David Murphy took Dan Haren deep in Wednesday's 10-6 win over the Angels.
His shot in the second inning plated three, and he also provided a single and scored in his only two plate appearances. It was one of four homers for the Rangers on the day, as Ian Kinsler, Chad Tracy and Doug Deeds also went deep. Murphy figures to play a lot again as the Rangers' fourth outfielder in 2011.

Wed Feb 23 201111:24Murphy leaves club for birth of son
David Murphy left Rangers' camp Wednesday because his wife gave birth.
We'd say that's a pretty valid excuse. Murphy will take a couple days to welcome his newborn son into the world, but should be back with the team sometime this weekend.

Thu Jan 6 201118:42Rangers, Murphy reach pre-arb. agreement
Rangers and OF David Murphy avoided arbitration Thursday by agreeing to a one-year, $2.4 million contract.
A nice haul for the first-year arbitration-eligible outfielder, who made just $427,670 last season. He batted .291/.358/.449 with 12 home runs and 65 RBI in 2010 for the American League champion Rangers and is expected to serve as an active fourth outfielder for Texas during the 2011 season.

Sat Oct 16 201020:01Rangers power way to 7-2 win over Yankees
David Murphy homered and doubled Saturday as the Rangers topped the Yankees 7-2 to even up the ALCS at a game apiece.
The only Rangers starter without a hit was Josh Hamilton, but he walked four times. The Ranger did plenty of bashing versus Phil Hughes, but they actually got their first run with some small ball. Elvis Andrus singled to start the bottom of the first, took second on a wild pitch (controversially, as it appeared that Robinson Cano got the tag on him), stole third and then stole home after Hamilton, who had walked, took off for second and tried to get caught in a rundown. The Rangers will now travel to New York for Game 3 on Monday. Lefties Cliff Lee and Andy Pettitte are set to duel.

David Murphy participated in all drills Tuesday and reported no issues with his strained left groin.
"I ran pretty hard," said Murphy. "I can't say I ran 100 percent, but I ran good enough that if I had to play the outfield or run the bases, it's good enough. I don't anybody expects me to be 100 percent after six days." Murphy will be on the roster, but he is expected to be on the bench for the first two games of the ALDS against the Rays.
