Tue Apr 8 201422:46Murphy knocks in four in win over Padres
David Murphy went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a three-run home run as the Indians defeated the Padres on Tuesday.
Murphy entered the night with lukewarm results in his first five games, but broke out in a big way on Tuesday. Over the past six seasons, all spent with the Rangers, Murphy displayed occasional power and speed, which should be highlighted as part of a platoon with Ryan Raburn in right field.

Mon Nov 25 201309:38Indians finalize 2-yr, $12M deal with Murphy
Indians signed OF David Murphy to a two-year, $12 million contract with a $7 million club option for 2016.
The deal was agreed upon last week and made official Monday after Murphy passed his pre-signing physical. The 32-year-old had a down year with the Rangers in 2013, but he's capable of a bounceback in 2014 and fits nicely into a right-field platoon with Ryan Raburn.

Wed Nov 20 201310:08Murphy's deal with Indians has club option
Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that David Murphy's contract with the Indians includes a club option for a third year.
Murphy has agreed to a two-year, $12 million deal with the Indians, pending a physical on Thursday. The 32-year-old batted just .220/.282/.374 with the Rangers this past season, but he's expected to be on the strong side of a platoon with Ryan Raburn in right field next season. His addition likely signals the end of Drew Stubbs' tenure in Cleveland.

Tue Nov 19 201322:16Murphy finalizing two-year deal with Indians
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Indians are close to finalizing a two-year contract with David Murphy in excess of $10 million.
Murphy is coming off a very disappointing season that saw him bat only .220/.282/.374 for the Rangers, but he hit .291/.356/.445 while averaging nearly 13 homers per season the three years prior. He's a career .280/.347/.469 hitter against right-handed pitching and seems likely to serve on the long side of a platoon in right field with Drew Stubbs, assuming Stubbs isn't non-tendered. If Stubbs doesn't return, Ryan Raburn would be the likely platoon mate with Murphy.

David Murphy smacked a two-run homer in Monday's loss to the Athletics.
He also drew a walk on the day. Unfortunately for the Rangers, Murphy's two-run blast in the fifth inning represented all the runs they could muster for the day. The outfielder upped his season batting line to a disappointing .222/.281/.382.

Thu Aug 1 201322:41David Murphy hits 12th homer for Rangers
David Murphy went 3-for-4 and hit his 12th homer against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
Murphy's power hasn't gone anywhere and he's actually striking out less than ever, yet here he is hitting .227 on Aug. 1. There's no reason to think he can't go on a little tear from here and turn back into a decent mixed-league outfielder. Since the Rangers failed to trade for an outfielder, he'll get every opportunity to turn it around.

Thu Jun 13 201323:02David Murphy goes hitless in Rangers' loss
David Murphy went 0-for-3 with a walk in Thursday's loss and is batting .130 in 46 at-bats during June.
The more Murphy struggles, the more tempted the Rangers will be to give Jurickson Profar a long look in the outfield once Ian Kinsler returns. Murphy did play well last month, hitting .286 with five homers and 17 RBI, but his overall average is down to .208.

Sun May 26 201302:19Murphy goes 2-for-5 with a 2B and 3 RBI
David Murphy went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI in Saturday's 5-2 victory in Seattle.
Murphy's two-run double in the second off Felix Hernandez spotted Texas a 3-0 lead. Murphy, one of the league's few tormentors of King Felix, had another good game against the All-World hurler. Unfortunately, he hasn't been hitting anyone else, batting .229/.279/.405 through 47 games. Murphy does have eight hits in his last six games, hopefully portending the end to his batter's box misery.

David Murphy hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and the Rangers made it hold up Wednesday in a 3-1 over the A's.

Mon May 20 201300:15Murphy goes 2-for-3, homers on Sunday night
David Murphy went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI in Sunday night's win over the Tigers.
With Ian Kinsler on the disabled list, the Rangers are using Elvis Andrus as their leadoff hitter and Murphy in the No. 2 spot. It's not exactly a deserved promotion after Murphy posted a .170/.215/.295 batting line in April, but there are not any other current options. Murphy appears to be finally healthy after missing time last week with a lower back injury.

Fri May 10 201323:39Murphy clubs solo homer in victory vs. Astros
David Murphy smacked one of three solo homers for the Rangers in a 4-2 victory for the Astros on Friday night.
Nelson Cruz and Jeff Baker also launched solo shots. For Murphy, it was his third home run of the season and his first since April 20. His struggles have moved him into a platoon role in recent weeks, as Baker made the start in left field on Friday, but he should still get the majority of at-bats. Murphy is an underrated but proven commodity, so this isn't a bad time to buy low in deeper formats.

Fri May 3 201316:34Murphy not in Friday's lineup
David Murphy is not in Friday's lineup against the Red Sox.
Rangers manager Ron Washington has insisted that Murphy is not in a platoon in left field, but he has now been benched in four straight games, all of them against southpaws. Jeff Baker, who is off to hot start this season, has been the beneficiary.

Fri Apr 12 201302:08Murphy has RBI single in win over Mariners
David Murphy had an RBI single in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Mariners.
It was his only hit of the day. While Murphy put the Rangers ahead in the fifth, Nelson Cruz's RBI double ended up being the difference in the ballgame. Rangers manager Ron Washington has used Murphy out of the fifth spot in nine out of 10 games this season, so he should have plenty of RBI opportunities if he can stick there. He's an underrated option in mixed leagues.

Fri Mar 22 201320:04Murphy clubs two-run homer vs. Rockies
David Murphy went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and two runs scored Friday against the Rockies.
Nelson Cruz and A.J. Pierzynski also homered for the Rangers. Murphy is hitting a cool .333 (18-for-54) in 20 games this spring and should be worth using in most mixed leagues this season. The 31-year-old outfielder has averaged 14 home runs and 10 stolen bases per season dating back to 2008.

The Rangers have discussed a long-term contract extension with outfielder David Murphy.
"When we went into the offseason, we identified a handful of players that we wanted to pursue multi-year deals with, and [Murphy] was one of them," Rangers assistant GM Thad Levine said Monday. "We have had conversations with [Murphy's agent] Mike Moye on that." The discussions could get more serious this spring. Murphy, 31, is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2013 season. He hit .304/.380/.479 in 2012.

Mon Jan 21 201313:45Rangers, Murphy avoid arb. with $5.75M deal
Rangers avoided arbitration with OF David Murphy by agreeing to a one-year, $5.75 million contract.
It's the midpoint of the figures exchanged last week. Murphy, 31, was in his final year of arbitration and should be in line for a pretty nice deal next winter if he can repeat his performance from 2012, when he batted .304/.380/.479 with 15 home runs and 10 stolen bases.

Fri Jan 18 201318:14Murphy, Rangers heading to arbitration
David Murphy requested $6.5 million and was offered $5.05 million from the Rangers when arbitration figures were exchanged Friday.
It was the third time that Murphy was arbitration eligible. The 31-year-old outfielder looks primed to step into a starting role in the Rangers outfield in 2013, and fantasy leaguers should take note of his double digit potential in power and speed.

Sat Sep 22 201201:11David Murphy has big night in loss
David Murphy went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and all three of Texas' RBI in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Mariners.
Murphy singled home two runs in the fourth before getting Hisashi Iwakuma for a solo shot in the sixth. The home run was his first since September 2, though he's batting .300 with eight RBI across 70 at-bats this month. Now hitting .312/.388/.493 on the season, Murphy has been one of the best platoon players in baseball.
