Mon Sep 3 201217:34David Murphy hits fifth homer
David Murphy went 2-for-4 and hit his fifth homer Monday versus the Cardinals.
The homer was Murphy's first extra-base hit since way back on Aug. 7. He's also drawn a total of two walks in three weeks. Murphy is pretty good at hitting singles, but that alone isn't enough to make him an adequate regular for the Mets.

Wed Aug 8 201212:35Murphy to play regularly in left field
Rangers manager Ron Washington plans to use David Murphy as his regular left fielder for now.
Murphy has started consecutive games with a left-hander on the mound and Washington plans to stick with him as long as he stays hot. "Murphy is going to get the bulk of [playing time] until he proves me wrong," said Washington. "I'm going on what he is doing right now. When I went to him and told him I planned to play him against lefties, he was hitting and we were struggling. I wanted to get as much offense as possible in the lineup. I'm going to put our best guys out there and not worry about matchup stuff." Murphy has nine homers and eight stolen bases in 272 plate appearances this year, so he's well worth using in deeper mixed fantasy leagues at the moment.

Tue Jul 31 201222:59David Murphy plates two runs in losing effort
David Murphy hit a two-run double on Tuesday, plating the Rangers' only runs in a loss to the Angels.
Anaheim starter Jered Weaver shut down the rest of the slumping Texas lineup. Murphy has been playing fairly regularly since the All-Star break, and has responded in kind, hitting .318 (14-for-44) over that 14-game stretch. As long as he's in the lineup, he makes for an interesting fourth or fifth outfielder in deeper mixed fantasy formats.

Tue Jun 12 201223:49David Murphy has three hits, HR in thrashing
David Murphy went 3-for-5 with a home run Tuesday in the Rangers' 9-1 defeat of the Diamondbacks.
Murphy's two-run shot off Ian Kennedy in the sixth inning gave the Rangers a 3-1 lead. He's been very useful in a platoon role for Texas again this season, hitting .263 with six homers and 19 RBI in 156 at-bats. With the uncertainty around his playing time, he's a difficult player to own in weekly fantasy leagues. But Murphy can be a serious asset if deployed correctly in daily formats.

Sun Mar 4 201216:44Daniels: Teams have inquired about OF Murphy
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said multiple teams have inquired about David Murphy's availability.
"We've been asked about him by other teams who perceive him as an everyday player and he doesn't have that label with us," Daniels said. "But we view him in that light." The Rangers and Murphy avoided arbitration in January by agreeing to a one-year, $3.625 million contract. The 30-year-old is set to fill the fourth-outfielder role in Texas and log sporadic at-bats at DH. As MLB.com notes, Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz have missed a total of 246 games the past three seasons, so Murphy should find enough at-bats to be useful in AL-only formats. He hit .275/.328/.401 with 11 homers, 46 RBI and a .729 OPS over 440 plate appearances last season.

Sat Sep 24 201112:28David Murphy will be regular LF
The Rangers plan on David Murphy being their left fielder during the playoffs.
That means Josh Hamilton will move over to center field. Endy Chavez had been handling center since being called up in mid-May, but the Rangers simply can't keep Murphy's hot bat out of the lineup, as he's batting .346/.365/.593 this month and .302/.339/.485 during the second half.

Wed Sep 14 201119:56Hamilton could move to accommodate Murphy
Rangers manager Ron Washington said he'll consider moving Josh Hamilton to center field when Nelson Cruz returns in order to keep David Murphy's hot bat in the lineup.
If the move does happen, Endy Chavez's playing time would be most affected. Murphy is fresh off a 4-for-4, two-homer game Tuesday, and he's tallied three four-hit games over the last 10 contests. He's worth a looked in mixed leagues right now while he's riding a hot bat.
