This is simply a bookkeeping note, as Ethier almost always sits against lefties and Scott Kazmir is on the mound for the Astros. Scott Van Slyke will start in left and hit fifth Saturday.
Tue Aug 18 201518:47Ethier not in lineup for Tuesday's game against A's
Ethier is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the A's.
Even with the DH option available to him, manager Don Mattingly is opting to sit Ethier against Felix Doubront, which is just another example of his strong reluctance to play Ethier against left-handed pitching. Scott Van Slyke is starting in left field and batting fifth.

Wed Aug 12 201518:49Ethier not in lineup for Wednesday's game against Nationals
Ethier is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports.
This is a bit odd, as Ethier has been hot to begin August (10-for-30 with four extra-base hits), he just had a day off Monday, and the Nats are starting a right-hander in Jordan Zimmermann. However, the team has not yet given any indication that Ethier is dealing with an injury or illness. Carl Crawford will man left field and lead off.

Ethier went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored in a 10-8 win over the Phillies on Thursday.
Ethier is generally regarded to as an "overrated" or "overpaid" player, but his production this season would say otherwise. In fact, his .873 OPS against right-handers is one of the best in the NL for qualifying hitters. Look for him to continue to bat cleanup against righties, while featuring against lefties only occasionally.

After returning from a brief two game hiatus, Ethier came back with a vengeance on Sunday, hitting a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning before rocketing a two-run game-winning home run in the tenth inning off Drew Rucinski to secure the victory for the Dodgers. Prior to Sunday's game, Ethier had been slashing a very respectable .278/.362./.459 in 304 plate appearances and was on pace to exceed his home run total for the last two years combined (16).

Ethier is back in the lineup Sunday against the Angels.
Ethier sat out each of the previous two games with left-handers on the mound for the Angels. With their outfield at full health now, look for the Dodgers to utilize a platoon setup in left field, with Ethier receiving the larger portion of the timeshare with Scott Van Slyke.

As expected, Ethier will remain on the bench in favor of Scott Van Slyke with the Angels trotting out a lefty (Andrew Heaney) for the second day in a row. Look for Ethier to be back in left field for Sunday's series finale, assuming the Angels do indeed go with Nick Tropeano for that start.

Scott Van Slyke will take over in left field as Ethier rides the pine against a lefty (Hector Santiago), as he almost always does. Ethier has gone more than a month without a homer but he is getting on base at a .410 clip in July, his third month of the season with an OBP over .390.

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier will remain the starter in left field when teammate Carl Crawford returns from the disabled list, according to the Orange County Register. Ethier is hitting .287 with 10 home runs and 33 RBI on the season, but has really turned it up in July, as he has posted a .996 OPS in 13 games this month. “At this point, Andre’s kind of taken that spot, to be honest with you,” Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. “Carl’s going to have to work his way back in. We’ll figure a way to use him, for sure. But he’s going to have to work his way in.” Crawford is expected to rejoin the team on Monday after finishing up a minor league rehab assignment, but it sounds as though it will take a trade or injury for him to regain a starting spot in the Dodgers' outfield.

Ethier went 3-for-5, hitting a double, driving in an RBI and scoring two runs in a 5-0 victory over the Nationals on Sunday.
It was his third consecutive start in left field, but his first batting in the four spot this season. After hitting a leadoff double on a 0-2 pitch in the fourth inning, Ethier came around to score on a wild pitch by Max Scherzer, breaking what was a 0-0 tie to put the Dodgers ahead in the contest. Prior to Sunday's game, the 33-year-old outfielder was slashing a respectable .280/.367/.473.

Ethier returned from a quad injury in Saturday's game, but he will be held out in the team's final game before the All-Star break. It is likely just precautionary, and it is expected that Ethier will return to the lineup following the break. Enrique Hernandez will start in left field in Ethier's place and will bat eighth.
Sat Jul 11 201517:53Ethier (quadriceps) back in lineup Saturday against Brewers
Ethier (quadriceps) is back in the lineup Saturday against the Brewers.
Tightness in Ethier's left quadriceps forced him from Thursday's game and kept him out of the lineup Friday, but he'll return to the order Saturday and bat seventh as the Dodgers' left fielder. He'll be facing righty Taylor Jungmann, who allowed one run on four hits across eight innings in his most recent outing.
Fri Jul 10 201519:39Ethier (quad) sitting Friday with general soreness
Ethier (quad) is sitting Friday with general soreness, but he's expected to rejoin the lineup Saturday, Eric Stephen of True Blue LA reports.
