Wed May 23 201222:56Alex White picks up first victory
Alex White allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings of Wednesday's 8-4 win over the Marlins, improving to 1-3 on the year.
White struck out three and walked one in picking up his fourth career victory. We would say he got the win because he was away from hitter's haven Coors Field, but White's best start of the year actually came at home last Friday, while he's allowed at least four runs in two of his three road outings. He'll bring a 5.32 ERA into Monday's game against Houston. That one is in Denver.

Fri May 18 201223:19Alex White goes seven innings in loss
Alex White yielded three runs (two earned) over seven innings in a loss to the Mariners on Friday night.
White scattered six hits (including a solo homer by Mike Carp) while fanning seven and walking none. He also hit a batter. While he took the loss, it was the first time in his major league career that he completed seven innings. He'll carry a 5.09 ERA into his next start Wednesday against the Marlins and remains an intriguing option in NL-only leagues.

Sun May 13 201220:40Alex White takes loss in LA
Alex White was knocked around for six runs over 4 1/3 innings as part of road loss to the Dodgers Sunday.
White struck out just one, walked three and gave up five hits. The 2009 first-round pick of the Indians was nursing a 4-2 lead through four innings, but allowed the first four batters of the fifth to reach base. The good news for White is that he had 2.92 ERA in Triple-A this season and gets the light-hitting Mariners next. There's still some upside here for deep NL-only owners.

Wed May 9 201201:47Alex White gives up two runs to Padres
Alex White took a loss in his season debut after allowing two runs in 6 1/3 innings Tuesday against the Rockies.
A quality debut for White. He probably has a better chance of sticking in Colorado's rotation that Christian Friedrich, though Friedrich may have the greater upside of the two. NL-only leaguers could do worse than having him stashed away.

Wed May 2 201222:36White 'strong frontrunner' to replace Chacin
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that Alex White is the "strong frontrunner" to replace Jhoulys Chacin in the rotation next Tuesday.
With Tyler Chatwood injuring himself during his start with Triple-A Colorado Springs Thursday, it was down to White and Christian Friedrich, and it appears that White will likely get the nod. It's well deserved, as White boasts a 2.92 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 21/8 K/BB ratio over 24 2/3 frames at Colorado Springs.

Mon Apr 2 201214:54Rockies option Alex White to AAA
Rockies optioned RHP Alex White to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
White told reporters last week that he was comfortable pitching out of the bullpen this year, but the Rockies want to continue grooming him as a starter. The 23-year-old right-hander should be up in the major leagues at some point this summer. The Rox are still sorting out their starting rotation with Opening Day fast approaching.

Wed Mar 28 201200:02Alex White comfortable pitching in relief
Alex White said Tuesday that he's comfortable working out of the bullpen.
"As soon as I was drafted, that was the first thing people said, that I was going to the bullpen," said White. "I had to prove my first couple years of pro ball that I could start. I wanted to be a starter. But to get to this level, it's a very fine line. We think my best role right now is in the bullpen, and that's something I'm going to try to do as well as I can." White entered spring training as a candidate for a rotation spot, but he has made three straight relief appearances, including two shutout innings during his latest appearance on Sunday. It's not clear if he'll be converted back into a starter in the minors if he doesn't win a spot on the Opening Day roster.

Sat Mar 17 201202:54Alex White gives up four runs for Rockies
Alex White gave up four runs in four innings Friday against the Rockies to fall to 0-2 this spring.
White has given up six runs in nine innings. Since he has options left and did miss a big chunk of last year, he might be Triple-A bound for the start of the season.

Sun Mar 11 201220:13Alex White loses to Brewers
Alex White took a loss despite giving up just one run in three innings Sunday against the Brewers.
White's DUI arrest didn't win him any character points, but the Rockies still figure to give him a rotation spot if he proves worthy. He's allowed two runs in five innings to date.

Tue Mar 6 201219:10Alex White gives up a run over two frames
Alex White allowed one run on two hits and a walk over two relief innings in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs.
He did strike out a pair and got three groundouts. White, who was charged with a DUI over the weekend, is hoping to gain a spot in the Rockies rotation. After an 8.42 ERA and 1.69 WHIP down the stretch for the Rockies last year, he might be best off getting some more seasoning.

Tue Mar 6 201208:46Alex White may be charged with 'extreme' DUI
Alex White could be charged with an "extreme" DUI.
White's blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.174 after his arrest Saturday night in Scottsdale. Under Arizona law, anything over 0.15 is considered extreme and carries additional consequences. The situation continues to worsen for the 23-year-old rotation hopeful.

Sun Mar 4 201213:57Alex White arrested on DUI charge
Alex White was arrested on a DUI charge Saturday night in Scottsdale, Arizona.
It's not clear what legal implications White might face, but general manager Dan O'Dowd said he will not be punished by the Rockies, as they were impressed by the way he handled himself after the arrest. The young right-hander is hoping to win a spot in the team's rotation after struggling for them down the stretch last year.

Sun Jan 22 201210:36Alex White recovered from finger injury
Alex White said he is completely recovered from his right middle finger injury.
White was sidelined for three months this past season while recovering from the ailment, and he struggled down the stretch with the Rockies after being activated from the disabled list. The ailment made gripping the ball difficult, but the right-hander evidently is no longer having problems. He'll compete for a rotation spot in spring training but might be best served getting more seasoning at Triple-A.

Wed Sep 28 201101:14White gets lit up again by Giants
Alex White didn't pitch well again on Tuesday, serving up three runs on six hits over just four innings in a loss to the Giants.
He struck out one and walked two. White gave up at least four runs in each of his six starts with the Rockies and probably would have done so again on Tuesday if he wasn't yanked early. White has plenty of talent, but he walked too many batters and gave up too many home runs in his first season. He finishes the year 2-4 with an 8.42 ERA and 1.69 WHIP and will have to fight for a spot with the big club in spring training next year.

Thu Sep 22 201123:56White struggles again
Alex White was knocked around again Thursday, serving up five runs on six hits over just 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Astros.
He did strike out six, but there's no doubting that it was a struggle again for the 23-year-old. He's now given up at least four runs in each of his six starts with the Rockies, failing to make a good first impression with his new club. White has plenty of talent, but right now he's walking too many batters and giving up too many home runs, which is obviously not a recipe for success. He'll take an 8.63 Rockies ERA into next week's start against the Giants.

Fri Sep 16 201123:36Alex White rocked
Alex White was rocked by the Giants Friday, allowing six runs on nine hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings.
He struck out three and served up longballs to Cody Ross and Brandon Belt. White has been awfully disappointing since coming off the disabled list, posting an 8.46 ERA and 1.81 WHIP in his five outings for the Rockies. He still has long-term upside but clear can't be trusted in fantasy leagues right now. White will get the Padres next week.

Tue Aug 30 201100:38White wild in loss to D'Backs
Alex White's control was absent Monday, as he walked six while allowing five runs and seven hits over six innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks.
He's now surrendered five runs in each of his first two starts with the Rockies and has walked 16 over 27 innings in his five starts this season. The walks figure to come down, as White has had good control in his minor league career, but it's clear right now that the young right-hander isn't ready to be trusted for fantasy purposes. He'll face the Padres over the weekend.

Wed Aug 24 201100:36Alex White has rocky Rockies debut
Alex White had a Rockies debut to forget on Tuesday, allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings of Colorado's 8-6 win over the Astros.
White struck out four and walked one in his first taste of Denver's thin air. A first round draft pick of the Indians just two years ago, White is an exceptionally talented young pitcher. However, his keeper value has become murky after his move from Cleveland to Coors Field.

Tue Aug 23 201117:40Rockies activate RHP Alex White from
Rockies activated RHP Alex White from the 60-day disabled list.
As expected, White will make his Rockies' debut Tuesday night against the Astros. The 22-year-old right-hander had a 3.60 ERA over his first three major league starts before going on the disabled list with a finger injury in May. He is worth a look in NL-only leagues the rest of the way and holds serious long-term potential.

Sat Aug 20 201113:23Alex White to make Rockies debut Tuesday
Alex White (finger) will be activated from the disabled list to start against the Astros on Tuesday.
He's taking the rotation spot of Jason Hammel, who has been moved to the bullpen. White, who was acquired in the Ubaldo Jimenez trade last month, allowed just three hits over 7 2/3 scoreless innings in his latest rehab outing for Double-A Tulsa on Thursday, as his finger issue appears to be behind him. He's worth a look in NL-only leagues right away, especially for his start against Houston, and he could eventually garner some mixed league value.
