Royals recalled OF David Lough from Triple-A Omaha.

Lough failed to earn an Opening Day roster spot despite batting .465 (20-for-43) in spring training. He's up now, though, after hitting .340/.393/.477 with three homers and five steals at Omaha. He'll back up at all three outfield spots.

Lough batted .465 (20-for-43) with six doubles, one triple, five RBI and three stolen bases during Cactus League play, but it wasn't enough to win a job as a reserve outfielder. However, the speedy 27-year-old figures to see time with the big club at some point this year.

David Lough continued his torrid start to the Cactus League schedule, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored as the Royals topped the Padres 7-5 on Friday.

The double was Lough's sixth of the spring, and he's now hitting a scintillating .567 (17-for-30) on the spring. He also swiped his third base in three attempts, and is making a serious push to make the Opening Day roster as a reserve outfielder. While he doesn't have tremendous upside, he could be a very cheap source of speed in deeper mixed leagues.

Lough is attempting to earn a spot on the roster as a reserve outfielder, and certainly took a step in the right direction Friday. His RBI single came with two-outs in the ninth inning, increasing the Royals lead to 5-3 at the time. If he found his way into everyday at bats, he has the ability to swipe 20 or more bases.

Lough missed a full week after straining his right hamstring last Wednesday. The 26-year-old outfielder was a September call-up and won't play much down the stretch.

The Royals need another outfielder with Jarrod Dyson (lat) sidelined, but they won't be calling up Wil Myers. Lough and catcher Manny Pina have been added to the major league roster, as expected.
