Bay hasn't played center field since 2005 as a member of the Pirates while Valdespin has never played the position as a professional. Collins considers Scott Hairston as the primary alternative to Torres, but he's currently working his way back from an oblique strain. If both players are sidelined going into the season, it's likely they'll go with Loewen.

He is still owed $16 million each of the next two seasons and either a $17 million club option or $3 million buyout for 2014.
