Detwiler could nail down a rotation spot with a strong start Wednesday.
Detwiler is believed to be the front runner for one of the two rotation spots, a position helped when prospect Alex 'Chi Chi' Gonzalez was sent to minor-league camp Tuesday.

Detwiler (wrist) threw four scoreless innings against primarily minor leaguers in a "B" game Friday.
Detwiler was held out of action for a few days due to a sore wrist but will likely square off in an "A" game for his next appearance. He remains in contention for one of the two open rotation spots.

Detwiler (wrist) is expected to make his next spring start after x-rays came back negative, the team's web site report.
Detwiler is widely considered to be a lock for one of the two open rotation spots as long as he pitches reasonably well this spring. He' been solid in his first two appearances and shouldn't miss any additional time due to injury.

Detwiler is having precautionary X-rays after taking a line drive to his right wrist in Friday's game against the Giants, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports.
Fortunately for Detwiler he was hit on his non-throwing arm. However, he should still be considered day-to-day until further news is released on the severity of his injury.

Texas has committed that Detwiler will compete for the final spot in the rotation despite the lack of healthy left-handed relief pitching early this spring according to the team's web site.
Detwiler heads the competition for the final spot that contains around five others and isn't being viewed as a reliever despite him pitching in that role for parts of the past two seasons with Washington.

Detwiler could land in the bullpen due to the Rangers' lack of lefty relievers, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
It's hard to believe the Rangers would give up on what could be a solid left-handed starter (3.40 ERA, 164.1 IP in 2012) for one more option in the bullpen that could have been filled from the outside. That isn't even to mention that Detwiler was also substantially worse when Washington moved him to the bullpen after 2012, putting up a 4.03 ERA through 2013 and 2014.
Tue Jan 27 201519:33Detwiler will be stretched out as starter in spring training
Detwiler will be stretched out as a starter in spring training, but he will have to compete for a spot in the Rangers' rotation, Fox Sports Southwest's Anthony Andro reports.
The Rangers traded for Anthony Ranaudo on Tuesday, who will also be given a chance to compete for a spot in the rotation. While it is not a very imposing bunch after Yu Darvish, Derek Holland and to a lesser extent, Yovani Gallardo, there are a lot of similarly skilled pitchers who could find their way to starts at the back of the Rangers' rotation this season. Detwiler may emerge as one of the five best options, but it is something that will have to play out this spring.
Fri Jan 16 201516:13Detwiler and Rangers avoided arbitration by agreeing to one-year
Detwiler and the Rangers avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.45 million contract Friday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Detwiler will have a new role and home in 2015: he will work as a starter for the Rangers after pitching out of the bullpen last season with the Nationals. He had trouble keeping runners off the bases the last couple years, which is something he will need to curtail if he hopes to find success in the American League.

Detwiler was traded to the Rangers on Thursday in exchange for two minor league prospects, CBS DC reports.
The 28-yaer-old made 47 appearances as a reliever in 2014, posting a 4.00 ERA with 5.6 K/9. A former starter, last season was his first real taste of life as a reliever in the big leagues, and at this point it's unclear as to whether the Rangers intend to move him back into a starting role.
Wed Dec 3 201410:57Detwiler tendered contract prior to Tuesday's deadline
Detwiler was tendered a contract prior to Tuesday's deadline.
He wasn't very impressive out of the bullpen last season, but unless he gets traded it looks like Detwiler will once again provide some depth for the Nationals' staff in 2015.
Fri Oct 3 201410:17Detwiler left off Nationals' postseason roster
Detwiler was left off the Nationals' postseason roster, Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports.
With the Nationals likely to go with a four-man postseason rotation and bump Tanner Roark to long relief, the need to carry Detwiler wasn't really necessary. Detwiler finished the regular season with a 4.00 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 39:21 K:BB ratio over 63 innings.
Wed Aug 13 201410:02Detwiler gave up one run on two hits in two innings Tuesday
Detwiler gave up one run on two hits in two innings Tuesday.
The addition of Matt Thornton to the Nationals' bullpen seems to have pushed Detwiler back into a long relief role, as he came into Tuesday's game with the Nats ahead 7-0. His numbers on the season (3.42 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 29:18 K:BB ratio in 50 innings) are nothing special, and there just isn't much reason to have Detwiler on your roster.
Sat Jun 28 201423:16Detwiler earns his first career save vs. Cubs
Ross Detwiler earned his first career save in the Nationals' defeat of the Cubs on Saturday.
It was of the three-inning variety. Detwiler did not allow a hit or a walk over those three frames, fanning two. He lowered his ERA from 4.36 to 4.00 with the outing.

Mon Mar 17 201414:10Ross Detwiler to start season in bullpen
Nationals manager Matt Williams said Monday that Ross Detwiler will begin the season in the bullpen.
Detwiler probably has more upside than Taylor Jordan and Tanner Roark, but the Nats have decided that he'd be better utilized as the second left-hander in their bullpen. Williams said Detwiler was "not happy" to hear the news, but the skipper thinks the southpaw can be "special" in relief.

Mon Mar 17 201412:52Ross Detwiler bullpen-bound for Nationals?
Ross Detwiler is scheduled to throw one inning in Wednesday's game, with Taylor Jordan getting the start.
All three of Detwiler's previous Grapefruit League appearances have been starts, so it could be a sign that he's being transitioned over to a bullpen role. There's been speculation that this could happen, as Jerry Blevins is the only established left-hander in the Nationals' bullpen. It looks like the Nats' fifth starter will either be Jordan or Tanner Roark.

Sat Mar 8 201416:39Ross Detwiler surrenders six hits in start
Ross Detwiler allowed one run and six hits in two-plus innings Saturday against the Braves.
All six hits were singles. The last came to start the third, and Detwiler was immediately removed in favor of Taylor Jordan. Detwiler has a 10.80 ERA after two starts as he battles Jordan and Tanner Roark for a rotation spot. He entered camp as the favorite, but that's in doubt right now.

Mon Mar 3 201415:47Ross Detwiler gives up four runs in second
Ross Detwiler was charged with four runs -- three earned -- in 1 1/3 innings Monday against the Yankees.
Detwiler impressed in the first, striking out both Brett Gardner and Brian McCann in a perfect frame, only to give up hits to five of the first six batters he faced in the second. Tanner Roark followed him with scoreless third and fourth innings, so this wasn't a great first step for Detwiler in his battle to hold on to his rotation spot.

Sun Feb 23 201420:57Ross Detwiler adds cutter to his repertoire
Bill Ladson of MLB.com reports that Ross Detwiler has added a cutter to his repertoire this offseason.
The 27-year-old southpaw wants to give hitters another look to think about, so they don't sit on his fastball as they did in 2013. For a pitcher who relies almost exclusively on his heater (88 percent thrown in 2013), it makes an incredible amount of sense for Detwiler to expand his arsenal.

Tue Jan 28 201410:43Detwiler ready to compete for rotation spot
Ross Detwiler is comfortable with the idea of competing for the No. 5 rotation spot this spring.
"I've never had a spot just given to me; it's always been up for grabs," Detwiler said. "I've won it in the past. I think I can do it again if I stay healthy and throw well." Detwiler, 28 in March, posted a 2.53 ERA over his first seven starts last year. He strained an oblique on May 15 against the Dodgers, spent a month on the DL, posted a 6.31 ERA in five starts upon his return, and was promptly shut down for the season with lingering back pain. "Every injury is going to be different, but I'm not going to try to push through like I did last year," he said. "I started the year great, then I had a little oblique problem in L.A. and tried to push through that and do everything I could. And I lost my location." Detwiler is healthy and has been throwing regularly this winter. NL-only owners will want to monitor his open competition against Tanner Roark and Taylor Jordan, because the winner will have stealthy appeal in that format.
