He was actually injured Thursday when he fouled a ball off his foot, and the injury evidently got progressively worse. But, it appears to be a precautionary move, as Nationals manager Davey Johnson expects Bernadina to be ready to play by Sunday. The 27-year-old is competing with Rick Ankiel and Brett Carroll for the center field job and could wind up seeing time in left field if Mike Morse starts the year on the DL. |

"The Shark" batted just .243/.301/.362 in 91 games for the Nationals this past season and will turn 28 years old next summer, but he has a good amount of raw skills and may be intriguing to a team that is comfortable with taking a risk. Bernadina had an .819 career OPS at the Triple-A level. |
