Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Friday that Al Alburquerque (concussion) won't be ready to return for at least another week.
The Tigers placed Alburquerque on the 7-day DL after he suffered a concussion when he was hit in the head with a line drive during batting practice last week. He'll have to get clearance from MLB before rejoining the Tigers' bullpen.

The Tigers are optimistic that Al Alburquerque (concussion) will be able to return from the disabled list next week, but he'll have to pass a battery of tests before being cleared to play.
Alburquerque suffered a concussion when he was hit by a line drive last Friday during batting practice. He was able to play catch Tuesday without any issues and says he's feeling good, but we'll have to see if he can pass the necessary tests.

Al Alburquerque (concussion) was released from the hospital on Saturday afternoon.
Alburquerque has already been placed on the 7-day disabled list and could be out for well over a week. He can't fly, so he'll be driven from Baltimore back to Detroit within the next couple of days. The right-hander was struck in the head Friday by a stray batting practice ball.

Tigers placed RHP Al Alburquerque on the 7-day disabled list with a concussion.
Alburquerque suffered the concussion in a freak accident Friday when he was hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of Orioles' infielder during batting practice. He'll need to be cleared by MLB before returning to game action. The hard-throwing right-hander has a 2.19 ERA and 57/27 K/BB ratio over 37 innings this season.

Al Alburquerque (head) was taken to a local hospital in Baltimore to undergo a CT scan.
Alburquerque was hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of Orioles' infielder Robert Andino during batting practice. He was carted off the field, though Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun notes that he his showing some positive signs. Stay tuned for further updates about his status.

Al Alburquerque was struck with a line drive off the bat of Orioles' infielder Robert Andino during batting practice Friday.
Scary stuff. It's not clear exactly where Alburquerque was hit, but he was writhing in pain on the ground in the outfield before being attended to by medical personnel. We'll pass along an update on his status as soon as it is made available.

Alburquerque hasn't pitched since July 24 due to inflammation in his forearm. The 25-year-old right-hander has an impressive 2.43 ERA and 53 strikeouts over 33 1/3 innings this season.

Al Alburquerque is scheduled to be examined by Tigers' doctors Thursday after he was unavailable for Wednesday's series finale against the White Sox.
Tigers' head athletic trainer Kevin Rand said Alburquerque was playing catch before Wednesday's game when he said he would be unavailable to pitch. The Tigers are confident that the issue isn't major, but it's still a troubling development because the 25-year-old right-hander just recently returned from a stint on the disabled list due to right forearm inflammation. An MRI on Al Alburquerque's right forearm and elbow revealed no structural damage.
"We just need to give it the time it needs," Tiger trainer Kevin Rand said. "I'm confident we won't have an issue. We just want to get it quiet." Although it's not clear when exactly Albuquerque will return, manager Jim Leyland is confident it won't be long. "I think Alburquerque will be right back," Leyland said. "It's not an issue. We went on the cautious side."

Al Alburquerque won in relief for the second time in four games, tossing 1 1/3 innings of shutout ball Sunday against the Diamondbacks and running his scoreless streak to 14 innings in 13 appearances.
Alburquerque has pitched well at the right times this season, racking up five wins against only one loss. The rookie reliever is quietly putting together a standout season with a 1.95 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. Even more impressively, opponents are hitting only .126 against him.

Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes reports that the Tigers will call-up right-hander Al Alburquerque from Triple-A Toledo.
The Tigers have a game this afternoon and have yet to make an official announcement, so he may join the team in Oakland. Alburquerque, 24, has four scoreless innings over his first three appearances with Triple-A Toldeo this season and posted a 4.98 ERA and 1.49 WHIP over 25 relief appearances with Triple-A Colorado Springs (Rockies) last season. He'll presumably pitch in middle relief.

Tigers signed RHP Al Alburquerque to a major league contract.
It's a bit surprising that the Tigers couldn't land the 24-year-old right-hander on a minor league pact. He posted an ugly 4.98 ERA and 1.49 WHIP over 34 1/3 innings this season at the Double-A level.

Rockies designated RHP Al Alburquerque for assignment.
The Rockies cleared him in order to make space on the 40-man roster for Paul Phillips and Juan Rincon. Alburquerque, 23, was acquired from the Cubs in exchange for Jeff Baker last season. He had a 12.46 ERA over his first four appearances for the SkySox this season.
