Nicasio (abdomen) is expected to be reinstated from the disabled list Tuesday.

Nicasio will return to the bullpen Tuesday, as the Dodgers push Yimi Garcia off of the 25-man roster. Nicasio holds a 3.06 ERA over 47.0 innings on the season, and he's allowed two earned runs over 11 innings since the All-Star break.

Nicasio was placed on the disabled list Friday with a left abdominal strain, Eric Stephen of SB Nation reports.

Nicasio has been effective this season, notching a 3.06 ERA over 47 innings, but an abdominal strain will keep him out until at least early August. The Dodgers have reloaded their right-handed depth in the bullpen, however, as they activated Chris Hatcher on Friday.

Nicasio (1-3) gave up one run on one hit and one walk in a 3-2 loss to the Mets on Sunday.

With the game tied 2-2 after a ninth inning rally by the Dodgers, Nicasio took the mound as part of a double-switch for J.P. Howell and immediately struck out Kevin Plawecki and Wilmer Flores with a runner on first to end the inning. However, after the Dodgers were unable to plate Jimmy Rollins at third with just one out in the 10th inning, Nicasio returned to the mound and promptly gave up a leadoff double to Curtis Granderson. That hit proved to be costly, as Granderson ultimately came around to score three batters later on a Juan Uribe single. Nicasio hadn't allowed a run in 5.1 innings before Sunday.

Updating a previous report, manager Don Mattingly said Sunday that he doesn't want to use Nicasio to start Monday in place of Carlos Frias (back), MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.

Nicasio certainly made sense as a potential replacement option, but the Dodgers seemingly want to keep him available out of the bullpen Sunday afternoon. If Mattingly sticks to his word, the team will call up a yet-to-be-named pitcher from the minors to take the mound. The team also dismissed the idea of using Brandon Beachy (elbow), who is said to need more time in the minors before joining the big league club.

Nicasio is a likely candidate to fill in for Carlos Frias (back) on Monday against the Phillies, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.

Nicasio already has one start under his belt this season, and owns a formidable 2.18 ERA over 33 innings. With Frias landing on the disabled list, he'll potentially serve as a short-term solution, but would likely return to long relief afterwards.

Nicasio was sidelined since last Wednesday due to a cracked fingernail, but it appears he is good to go moving forward. Nicasio has been stellar this season, giving up just 22 hits and six earned runs over 26 innings (2.08 ERA) while striking out 29 batters.

Nicasio exited Wednesday's game due to the cracked fingernail, leaving his status unclear for Friday's game, but it sounds as though the injury may not be serious. Regardless, Nicasio sees very few save opportunities, leaving his fantasy impact minimal in most formats.

Despite giving a diagnosis for Nicasio, the Dodgers have not released a timetable for his return. This does not seem like a major injury, but he could potentially miss a few games for the Dodgers.

Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register believes it was a hand/finger injury on his pitching hand. Nicasio faced three batters in Wednesday's game but recorded just one out. Once the Dodgers release an official diagnosis, his status for the next few games will become clearer.

Nicasio started Game 1 of the Dodgers' doubleheader against the Rockies on Tuesday and gave up one run on three hits with one strikeout in two innings.

This amounted to a bullpen game for the Dodgers and Nicasio was pulled after needing 41 pitches (28 strikes) to get through two frames. Look for Nicasio to go back to working out of the Dodgers' bullpen going forward.

While Nicasio has done excellent work out of the Los Angeles bullpen this year -- 28 strikeouts and a 1.29 ERA in 21 innings -- starting is another story, especially in Coors Field. However, with Kenley Jansen returning from the disabled list Friday, Nicasio probably doesn't have much of a shot at seeing regular save chances.

One report had 16 pitchers still competing for seven bullpen, so Nicasio will need to show some improvement to make the Opening Day roster.

It's the role Jamey Wright filled a year ago, so don't expect Nicasio to see any save opportunities.

The Dodgers appear to be hoping Nicasio is yet another failed starter turned solid reliever type story. His role, if any, will be determined in Arizona.

Nicasio agreed to a one-year, $2.3 million contract with the Dodgers on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Nicasio's final season with the Rockies was nothing short of a disaster, as he posted a 5.38 ERA (5.45 FIP), 1.47 WHIP and 63:31 K:BB in 33 appearances (14 starts). The move to Dodger Stadium should help Nicasio's issues with the long ball (18.3% HR/FB last season, 12.6% for career), but the results will have to be a lot better for him to maintain a spot at the back of the rotation.

Nicasio was traded to the Dodgers on Monday for either a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Nicasio struggled over the span off 93.2 innings with the Rockies last season to the tune of a 5.38 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 2014. Part of the poor numbers can be attributed to his home park being Coors Field, but his numbers on the road (4.78 ERA, 1.62 WHIP) weren't that much better. It's unclear what role the Dodgers have in mind for Nicasio, but he could fight for a spot in the back end of the rotation or in the bullpen.

Nicasio was designated for assignment Thursday.

Nicasio owns an unsightly 5.03 ERA over 88 big league appearances, so the Rockies decided to remove him from the 40-man roster. His next step will be based on whether or not he clears waivers.

The Rockies will decide over the winter whether or not Nicasio will remain with the team as a starter or a reliever in 2015, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.

The first order of business for the Rockies will be in determining if they even want to tender Nicasio a contract in the offseason, as the organization's patience with the right-hander has perhaps worn thin due the lack of development up to this point in his career. Should they decide to keep Nicasio in the fold, the numbers would seem to argue that the bullpen would be a better fit for him, given his better numbers since moving to relief in the second half. Over his 16.2 innings out of the bullpen this season, Nicasio has posted a 3.75 K/BB ratio, nearly double the figure he posted over 73 frames as a starter.
