Nicasio tossed two scoreless innings in relief Wednesday vs. the Padres, giving up two hits and a walk.

Banished from the Rockies rotation earlier this season, Nicasio will see time as long man in the bullpen for now. Since his Aug. 7 recall, he's given up two runs over five relief innings. Should the Rockies suffer another injury to one of the members of their rotation, Nicasio would likely be the team's first option to make a spot start.

Nicasio was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Thursday, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.

It seems Nicasio was brought up for insurance just in case Thursday's game goes into extra innings. In 14 starts for the Rockies earlier this season, Nicasio posted a 5.92 ERA and 1.59 WHIP, but he's at least more stretched out than Brooks Brown.

Nicasio has shown flashes of brilliance at times in recent years but has simply been far too unreliable due to his spotty command. Nicasio will face the Rangers at home in his next outing.
