Thu Aug 14 201410:31Nicasio tossed two scoreless innings in relief Wednesday
Nicasio tossed two scoreless innings in relief Wednesday vs. the Padres, giving up two hits and a walk.
Banished from the Rockies rotation earlier this season, Nicasio will see time as long man in the bullpen for now. Since his Aug. 7 recall, he's given up two runs over five relief innings. Should the Rockies suffer another injury to one of the members of their rotation, Nicasio would likely be the team's first option to make a spot start.
Thu Aug 7 201413:15Nicasio recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Thursday
Nicasio was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Thursday, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
It seems Nicasio was brought up for insurance just in case Thursday's game goes into extra innings. In 14 starts for the Rockies earlier this season, Nicasio posted a 5.92 ERA and 1.59 WHIP, but he's at least more stretched out than Brooks Brown.

It's the fourth consecutive start in which Nicasio has registered three or fewer strikeouts, which is concerning. Overall, he has a 4.03 ERA with a 32/15 K/BB ratio in 51 1/3 innings. Thu May 1 201423:48Nicasio blanks Mets over 7 frames for 3rd win
Juan Nicasio improved to 3-1 with seven shutout innings against the Mets on Thursday as the Rockies went on to win 7-4.
Nicasio has been very inconsistent to start the season, entering Thursday's start with a 5.27 ERA. But he was brilliant against the Mets, holding them scoreless on three hits and a walk while striking out two. His ERA is now down to 4.19. Nicasio has shown flashes of brilliance at times in recent years but has simply been far too unreliable due to his spotty command. Nicasio will face the Rangers at home in his next outing.

Sun Apr 27 201401:05Juan Nicasio loses for first time this season
Juan Nicasio took his first loss of the year after giving up five runs in 4 1/3 innings against the Dodgers on Saturday.
Nicasio has been bitten by the home run bug in his last two outings, surrendering two bombs each time. He still has a nice 24/7 K/BB ratio in 27 1/3 innings for the season, so his rotation spot shouldn't be in jeopardy. There just isn't much reason to own him in NL-only leagues.

Juan Nicasio surrendered two runs on six hits over six innings in Tuesday's 3-2 victory over the Padres.
Nicasio struck out six in each of his first two outings and fell off to three tonight, but everything else was encouraging. He issued only one free pass. The right-hander has sandwiched two quality starts around last week's rough outing against the White Sox. Add it all up and he's 2-0 with a 3.50 ERA and 1.22 WHIP through three outings. He'll face off against the Phillies at home on Sunday.

Juan Nicasio allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings during Thursday's start against the Brewers.
Nicasio allowed three hits, all doubles, while walking three and striking out three. He has now had back-to-back shaky outings. Considering his prior body of work, with a career 4.92 ERA over 55 starts, it's best to proceed with caution with Nicasio. He'll be the Rockies' #4 starter when the season begins.

Sat Mar 15 201420:57Juan Nicasio struggles against Angels
Juan Nicasio turned in his first rough start of the Cactus League season on Saturday, allowing four runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings against the Angels.
Nicasio did strike out four while walking only one in the game. His problem stemmed entirely from his inability to keep the ball in the yard, allowing long balls to Mike Trout, Howie Kendrick and Matt Long. He still owns a 3.18 ERA and 10/2 K/BB ratio on the spring, and should be able to secure a spot in the Opening Day rotation.

Sun Sep 29 201300:33Juan Nicasio earns win in 1-0 game
Juan Nicasio blanked the Dodgers for 5 1/3 innings, striking out seven, in a victory Saturday.
Nicasio was rocked in his previous two starts, so there was no salvaging his ERA. Still, he did finish at 9-9 to go along with a 5.12 mark. The big problem is that his bad outings were really bad, plus he didn't pitch very deep into the game on his better days. Still, he did allow two or fewer runs in 15 of his 31 starts. The Rockies figure to stick with him as their fourth or fifth starter next season.

Nicasio fanned one and walked two in the abbreviated outing. The D'Backs struck for four runs in the second inning, then tacked on three more in the third before chasing Nicasio from the ballgame. He's had more downs than ups this season, and will carry a disappointing 5.32 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 112/63 K/BB ratio into his final start of the season against the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Sunday.
