Wed Jul 10 201323:56Mujica earns 25th save as Cards beat Astros
Edward Mujica picked up his 25th save of the season Wednesday as the Cardinals beat the Astros.
Mujica was working a sixth consecutive game (though there was one off-day in between), so Trevor Rosenthal will probably handle any save opportunities over the next few days. Mujica allowed a single and had another baserunner reach on a Daniel Descalso error at third base, but it all worked out in the end. "Chief" has a 1.80 ERA and 55/5 K/BB ratio in 65 innings since joining the Cardinals at last year's trade deadline.

Fri Jul 5 201300:20Mujica blows first save, Angels stun Cards
Edward Mujica blew his first save chance of the season and look the loss Thursday against the Angels.
Mujica entered Thursday's outing a perfect 21-for-21 in save chances this season, but that all went out the window after he served up a game-tying two-run homer to Josh Hamilton. Howie Kendrick and Mark Trumbo followed with singles while Erick Aybar later delivered a two-out RBI single to end it. Mujica has been so good for this season that something like this was bound to happen some point. While it was a crushing loss for the Cardinals, there's every reason to believe that he'll get the next save chance.

Tue Jun 18 201300:16Edward Mujica earns 20th save
Despite giving up a homer for a second straight outing, Edward Mujica picked up his 20th save in 20 chances Monday in the Cardinals' 5-2 defeat of the Cubs.
Mujica gave up a homer to Marlon Byrd on Thursday and another to Darwin Barney tonight, but he's yet to allow one in a one-run game. All four homers he's given up this year have been solo shots. It helps a lot that he hasn't walked a batter since April 3.

Tue Apr 30 201322:48Edward Mujica nails down impressive save
Edward Mujica recorded an impressive save Tuesday, striking out Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips and Jay Bruce in order to preserve the Cardinals' one-run victory.
Mujica has benefited from not having to face the meat of the opposing teams' order in a few of his saves, but this one was no cheapie. The righty doesn't have a classic closer's repertoire, but his changeup is a nasty pitch right now and he's ridden it to five straight saves to go along with a 0.90 ERA and 0.60 WHIP.

Mujica entered a 2-0 game with Bryce Harper standing on second base. He got Ian Desmond to pop out to shallow right field and Chad Tracy to fly out to deep right. "Chief" has taken over the Cardinals' ninth-inning gig and is now building job security. He needs to be owned in all mixed fantasy leagues.

Mon Apr 22 201322:22Edward Mujica perfect for second save
Edward Mujica pitched a perfect ninth for a save in a 3-2 game against the Nationals on Monday.
Mujica had the easier assignment tonight after Trevor Rosenthal faced the top of the order in a scoreless eighth; Mujica got the six-through-eight hitters and retired them all for his second save. Until he starts giving up homers again, Mujica should be the guy for saves in St. Louis.

Thu Apr 18 201322:20Edward Mujica converts save in Cardinals' win
Edward Mujica nailed down a four-out save in the Cardinals' win over the Phillies Thursday.
It wasn't an easy one. Mujica entered with two runners on in the eighth and struck Laynce Nix out with three pitches. He then allowed consecutive singles to start the ninth, leaving runners at the corners with no outs. "Chief" escaped, though, getting a ground out, a strikeout and another ground out to convert his first save since May of 2012. Mujica is the Cardinals' hottest reliever and is the guy to own for saves right now in St. Louis.

Thu Apr 18 201311:49Mozeliak indicates Edward Mujica may close
Asked Thursday morning about the Cardinals' ninth-inning gig, general manager John Mozeliak noted that Edward Mujica is the "most senior guy" and "fearless."
Mitchell Boggs has been terrible at closer and Trevor Rosenthal hasn't been much better in a setup role, so the Cardinals could look to Mujica for their next save opportunity. Mujica, 28, boasts a 1.15 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 26/4 K/BB ratio in 31 1/3 innings since moving from the Marlins to the Cardinals late last summer. He needs to be scooped up in all standard fantasy leagues.

Mon Apr 15 201309:10Mujica could be tried at closer for Cardinals
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny indicated Sunday that Edward Mujica might be tried at closer.
Mitchell Boggs has been awful in place of the injured Jason Motte (elbow) and Trevor Rosenthal hasn't been much better in a setup role. "Right now, Mujica's making good pitches and getting the big outs when we need them," Matheny told reporters on Sunday evening. The right-hander is worth adding right now in most fantasy leagues.
