Royals placed LHP Jonathan Sanchez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 8, with left biceps tendinitis.
As expected. Sanchez was torched for six runs over three innings in his most recent start and owns a rough 6.75 ERA and 18/22 K/BB ratio across his first six outings. Luis Mendoza will likely take his place in the starting rotation in the short-term.

Wed May 9 201213:09KC's Sanchez dealing with biceps tendinitis
Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star writes that Jonathan Sanchez is currently battling biceps tendinitis.
Sanchez surrendered six runs over three innings against the Red Sox in his most recent start on Monday and now has a 6.75 ERA on the year. Dutton speculates that he could be placed on the disabled list when Johnny Giavotella is added to the active roster. Luis Mendoza would likely move back to the starting rotation in that case.

Mon May 7 201223:55Jonathan Sanchez lit up by Sox
Jonathan Sanchez was lit up by the Red Sox Monday, yielding six runs on six hits and three walks over just three innings.
It's arguably Sanchez's ugliest outing yet, though a case can certainly be made for his seven-walk performance back on April 24. The enigmatic southpaw has been a disaster to this point in his Royals career, holding a 6.75 ERA and 1.86 WHIP through six outings. He'll try to right the ship this weekend against the White Sox.

Tue Apr 24 201222:45Sanchez wild, Royals lose 12th straight
Jonathan Sanchez struggled with his control against the Indians on Tuesday, walking seven and allowing four runs on four hits in just 4 2/3 innings.
Sanchez struck out five, but couldn't find the plate for most of the game. He needed 115 pitches and still couldn't make it out of the fifth inning. The loss was the Royals 12th in a row, and evens Sanchez' record at 1-1, though he owns an inflated 6.75 ERA. He'll attempt to get back on track when he battles the Twins on Sunday.

Jonathan Sanchez struggled mightily in his second start as a Royal on Saturday, allowing five runs on six hits in in just 2 2/3 innings against the Indians.
Sanchez cruised through the first 2 1/3 innings before allowing seven consecutive Indians to reach in the third. He walked four and hit a batter while striking out one in the short outing. The lefty will attempt to get things back on track when he takes on the Blue Jays next week.

Sun Apr 8 201219:10Jonathan Sanchez has decent day vs. Halos
Jonathan Sanchez had a decent Royals debut against the Angels Sunday, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks in five innings of Kansas City's 7-3 win.
Sanchez struck out four as he picked up the win. Not a bad afternoon, but not exactly scintillating, as Sanchez required 99 pitches to tally his 15 outs. Coming off a poor 2011 and nightmarish spring, Sanchez isn't yet an every-outing starter in mixed leagues.

Wed Mar 7 201219:15Jonathan Sanchez struggles Wednesday
Jonathan Sanchez was shaky in his spring debut Wednesday, giving up four runs -- three earned -- on four hits and a strikeout over just one inning against the Cubs.
At least he didn't walk anyone. The Royals are counting on Sanchez providing some much-needed stability to their rotation this season, and while he does have plenty of upside, he's been anything but stable during his career. We're expecting plenty of ups and down from him again in 2012.

Tue Jan 17 201214:12Royals, Sanchez agree to one-year contract
Royals and LHP Jonathan Sanchez avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $5.6 million contract.
Sanchez, who was acquired from the Giants as part of the Melky Cabrera trade in November, earned $4.8 million last season while posting a disappointing 4.26 ERA and 102/66 K/BB ratio over 101 1/3 innings. The 29-year-old southpaw can become a free agent next offseason.

Sat Nov 5 201111:45Report: Giants willing to trade Sanchez
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Giants are willing to trade Jonathan Sanchez this offseason.
The Giants have resisted dealing from their stockpile of pitching in an effort to add a hitter, but evidently they've reached a point where they feel a move might now be necessary. They'd be selling low on Sanchez, as he fell back to a 4.26 ERA and 1.44 WHIP this season and ended the year with an ankle injury. But, he's also slated to earn around $6 million in his final year of arbitration before becoming a free agent, so if they're going to barter him, now might be the time. Teams interested in the 29-year-old would be hoping he could recapture the form he displayed in 2010, when he posted a 3.07 ERA while piling up 205 strikeouts.

Wed Sep 21 201121:41Jonathan Sanchez not throwing off mound
Jonathan Sanchez (ankle) has yet to throw off a mound while he rehabs his ankle in Arizona.
It essentially means his season is over, which has been likely for a while now, anyway. Sanchez has been sidelined since August 16 with a left ankle injury and will end the season with a 4.26 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over 19 starts.

Wed Sep 14 201114:45Jonathan Sanchez doubtful to return in '11
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that it's doubtful Jonathan Sanchez (ankle) will return this season.
Sanchez hasn't pitched since spraining his left ankle on August 16. He was able to throw off flat ground on Tuesday, but there simply aren't enough days left on the calendar. The 28-year-old left-hander made $4.8 million this season and is arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter.

Tue Sep 13 201119:52Jonathan Sanchez throws on flat ground
Jonathan Sanchez (ankle) threw on flat ground Tuesday.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Sanchez is feeling better and will be re-evaluated for potential swelling in the ankle. He could be cleared to throw from a mound in a week. The Giants still hope to get Sanchez back late in the year, but obviously the smallest setback will end his season.

Tue Sep 13 201109:33Sanchez (ankle) could head to AZ for rehab
Jonathan Sanchez (ankle) is headed to the Giants' spring training complex in Arizona to ramp up his rehab.
Sanchez will first throw a bullpen session Tuesday in front of the Giants' coaching staff. If that goes well, they will continue to push the left-hander with an eye on activating him for the final week of the regular season. If it doesn't go smoothly, Sanchez could simply be shut down.

Sun Sep 4 201111:10Jonathan Sanchez throws from mound
Jonathan Sanchez (ankle) threw 10 pitches from a mound Saturday at "60-65 percent."
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said he's more confident now than he was two weeks ago that Sanchez, who has been out since mid-August with a sprained ankle, will return this season. "And believe me, we can use him," the manager said. If he keeps progressing, he should be able to make a few late-season starts.

Fri Sep 2 201123:59Sanchez (ankle) begins throwing program

Sanchez has been sidelined since spraining his left ankle on August 16. The southpaw has yet to throw off a mound, but Giants manager Bruce Bochy is optimistic he will be able to return before the end of the season. "He's been throwing, so he's starting to make progress," said Bochy. "The way he's going now, we're more optimistic with him helping us."

Sun Aug 28 201115:05Sanchez (ankle) could be done for season
The Giants are concerned that Jonathan Sanchez's left ankle injury might keep him from returning this season.
Manager Bruce Bochy said the ankle simply isn't getting any better even though Sanchez suffered the ailment nearly two weeks ago. "The way it's going, it's going to be a race between he and Buster (Posey)," Bochy joked. It's obviously bad news for the Giants, but with Eric Surkamp's encouraging debut Saturday and Barry Zito (ankle) getting healthier, they should be OK.

Tue Aug 23 201120:09Jonathan Sanchez (ankle) could be DL-bound
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Jonathan Sanchez (ankle) is "doubtful" to make his next start and could be placed on the disabled list.
The Giants will either place Sanchez or Nate Schierholtz (foot) on the disabled list as the corresponding move to Carlos Beltran's activation. Sanchez was injured on August 16, so he would be eligible to return on September 1 if he is indeed disabled. Dan Runzler could get another start this weekend.

Sun Aug 21 201108:39Jonathan Sanchez scratched from Sunday start
Jonathan Sanchez (ankle) has been scratched from Sunday's start.
Sanchez reported soreness in his left ankle after throwing off a flat surface Friday. He has not been placed on the disabled list and hopes to be well enough to pitch in a few days. He admitted, though, that the ankle just "doesn't feel right," so a trip to the DL certainly can't be ruled out. Dan Runzler will get the ball Sunday against the Astros.
