Berard allowed just two hits -- striking out five -- and threw 68 percent of his pitches for strikes. He'll carry a 4.53 ERA and 1.40 WHIP into Saturday's game with the Padres.

Bedard was scratched from his previous outing because of back spasms and still looked a little off Wednesday night. The veteran left-hander has a 3.07 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 44/15 K/BB ratio in 41 innings this season.

The veteran left-hander will hope that the Pirates can again bring him the increased run support when he takes on the defending World Series champs in St. Louis next week.

Now the owner of a 2.25 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 7/2 K/BB ratio through his first 12 frames, Bedard will get the Diamondbacks in Arizona on Monday.

The four runs came courtesy of a pair of homers in the fourth inning. Bedard ends the spring with a 5.03 ERA. We expect him to have a little value in shallow mixed leagues while healthy, but he's not a great play in those while matching up against Roy Halladay and the Phillies on Opening Day.

The Bucs' Opening Day starter doesn't inspire much confidence from a health perspective, but the switch over to the National League gives him some upside.

The 33-year-old left-hander signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract in December and should carry some fantasy value in mixed leagues.

He should be useful in mixed leagues until his inevitable trip to the disabled list.
