Mon Aug 6 201221:50Bedard throws seven scoreless in win
Eric Bedard recorded his sixth win of the season in Monday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Bedard pitched seven scoreless innings, and was removed after 84 pitches. Its a solid bounce back after giving up eight runs in his previous start. Berard allowed just two hits -- striking out five -- and threw 68 percent of his pitches for strikes. He'll carry a 4.53 ERA and 1.40 WHIP into Saturday's game with the Padres.

Thu Jul 26 201217:12Erik Bedard to start Monday vs. Cubs
Erik Bedard will make his next start Monday against the Cubs.
Bedard was slated to start Sunday against the Astros, but the Pirates have pushed him back a day in order to insert the newly-acquired Wandy Rodriguez into the starting rotation. The southpaw just struck out 11 over seven innings of one-run ball against the Cubs on Monday, so maybe it's not such a bad thing.

Mon Jul 23 201222:08Bedard dominant Monday vs. Cubs
Erik Bedard was outstanding Monday against the Cubs, tossing seven innings of one-run ball while striking out 11.
He didn't earn a win, as Jeff Samardzija was just as good. Bedard also pitched very well his last time out after a poor three-start stretch. Now with a 4.32 ERA and 1.45 WHIP for the season, Bedard is a must-play this weekend in Houston.

Wed Jul 18 201200:07Bedard 'cuffs Rockies in Tuesday's victory
Erik Bedard pitched 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball (one earned) to beat the Rockies on Tuesday.
Bedard walked four and struck out four in the outing. He also surrendered eight hits. Bedard has struggled mightily in 11 starts since coming off the DL, posting an ERA over 6.00. Tuesday's outing was encouraging, however, as he came into it having allowed four earned runs or more in five of seven starts. Hang with him in NL-only formats. In mixed leagues, Bedard needs to be benched until further notice.

Sun Jul 1 201218:06Erik Bedard lousy in loss
Erik Bedard was lousy in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals, allowing five runs on eight hits and two home runs in 4 2/3 innings of work.
Bedard struck out five and walked two in falling to 4-9. Bedard has turned in just two quality outings in six starts since June 1, and watched his ERA balloon from 3.12 to 4.57 in the process. He'll bring a 1.48 WHIP and 77/36 K/BB ratio into his Friday matchup with the Giants at home.

Tue Jun 26 201222:25Bedard struggles in loss to Phillies
Erik Bedard struggled against the Phillies on Tuesday, allowing four runs on eight hits over six innings of work.
Bedard fanned three and walked two. Ty Wigginton's two-run blast in the third inning was the big blow in the game. Over his last seven starts, Bedard has alternated between disaster and strong outing, on an every-other-outing basis. If that pattern continues, look for him to rebound and turn in a nice effort when he takes on the Cardinals in St. Louis on Sunday.

Fri Jun 8 201221:54Bedard strong in victory over Royals
Erik Bedard allowed just two runs on five hits in seven innings of work in Friday's win over the Royals.
Bedard fanned five and walked three. The victory pushes his record to 4-6, and he lowered his ERA to a respectable 3.59. He also owns an impressive 61/28 K/BB ratio through 62 2/3 innings. When healthy Bedard has typically performed as a top-of-the-rotation pitcher, and this year is proving to be no different. He should be owned and started in all fantasy leagues. The Orioles are up next.

Erik Bedard stifled the struggling Cubs in Sunday's 10-4 victory, allowing just two hits in six scoreless innings of work.
Bedard struck out three and walked four in sending the Cubbies to their 12th consecutive loss. Bedard had allowed at least four runs in each of his past two starts. Now 3-5 on the year, he'll bring a 3.12 ERA and 1.35 WHIP into his Friday outing in Milwaukee.

Thu May 17 201208:56Bedard (back) allows four runs in return
Erik Bedard allowed four earned runs in six innings Wednesday in a loss to the Nationals.
Bedard was scratched from his previous outing because of back spasms and still looked a little off Wednesday night. The veteran left-hander has a 3.07 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 44/15 K/BB ratio in 41 innings this season.

Thu May 10 201220:44Bedard (back) feeling better Thursday
Erik Bedard reported improvement Thursday after leaving Wednesday's start during the second inning with back spasms.
It's too soon to tell if he'll be able to make his next start, but the Pirate should have a better read on the situation by Friday night. Brad Lincoln, who tossed three innings of relief on Wednesday, would be the most likely replacement if he can't go.

Wed May 9 201219:30Erik Bedard exits start with back spasms
Erik Bedard left Wednesday's start during the second inning with back spasms.
Bedard threw a 1-1 pitch to Adam LaRoche and then started twisting and trying to stretch his midsection out. We'll update his status when more is known, but it's hard to be optimistic about him given his previous injury issues. Brad Lincoln replaced Bedard on the mound and would be an option to take his spot in the rotation if needed.

Erik Bedard fanned 11 while allowing two runs over five innings in a win over the Cardinals on Thursday.

Sat Apr 28 201222:45Bedard brilliant in win over Braves
Erik Bedard turned in a brilliant performance against the Braves on Saturday, allowing just one run on five hits over five innings while racking up nine strikeouts.
Bedard walked two but truly had Braves hitters off-balance the entire outing. He improves to 1-4 on the season, but with a very respectable 2.48 ERA. The veteran left-hander will hope that the Pirates can again bring him the increased run support when he takes on the defending World Series champs in St. Louis next week.

Sun Apr 22 201216:30Erik Bedard goes seven strong in loss
Erik Bedard pitched seven solid innings in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and four walks.
He struck out seven in falling to an undeserved 0-4. Bedard loaded the bases with nobody out in the first, but escaped allowing only one run, and more or less controlled his next six innings of work. Bedard has now gone seven innings in two of his first four starts, but received a total of three runs of support from the Pirates' truly abysmal offense. He'll get the Braves in Atlanta next weekend.

Tue Apr 17 201201:00Erik Bedard takes another tough loss
Erik Bedard held the Diamondbacks to two runs and three hits in five innings on Monday night.
Of course, with the way the Pirates are hitting, he fell to 0-3 anyway. Bedard has opened the season with a 2.65 ERA, but the Pirates have scored a total of two runs in his three starts.

Thu Apr 12 201201:12Erik Bedard decent in loss
Erik Bedard took the loss in Wednesday's setback against the Dodgers, allowing two runs on eight hits in five innings of work.
He struck out three and issued one free pass, throwing 88 pitches. It's what should more or less be expected of Bedard each time out, though he's usually a better bet for six innings than five. Now the owner of a 2.25 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 7/2 K/BB ratio through his first 12 frames, Bedard will get the Diamondbacks in Arizona on Monday.

Sat Mar 31 201217:29Erik Bedard gives up four runs to Orioles
Facing his original team, Erik Bedard surrendered four runs in five innings Saturday against the Orioles.
The four runs came courtesy of a pair of homers in the fourth inning. Bedard ends the spring with a 5.03 ERA. We expect him to have a little value in shallow mixed leagues while healthy, but he's not a great play in those while matching up against Roy Halladay and the Phillies on Opening Day.

Mon Mar 26 201223:21Bedard solid in start Monday vs. Orioles
Erik Bedard allowed two runs -- one earned -- over six-plus innings against the Orioles on Monday night.
Bedard blanked his former team over the first six innings, but he allowed hits to six out of the final seven batters he faced, including three in the top of the seventh. The two runs scored after he was pulled in favor of Jason Grilli. All told, the veteran southpaw gave up seven hits while fanning five and walking just one. The Bucs' Opening Day starter doesn't inspire much confidence from a health perspective, but the switch over to the National League gives him some upside.

Thu Mar 22 201216:48Erik Bedard to start Opening Day for Pirates
Erik Bedard will start on Opening Day for the Pirates.
Jeff Karstens was thought to be the leading candidate for the Opening Day nod, but Pirates manager Clint Hurdle announced Thursday in camp that Bedard will be the guy. The 33-year-old left-hander signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract in December and should carry some fantasy value in mixed leagues.

Tue Mar 20 201222:59Bedard gives up four runs in loss to Yanks
Erik Bedard was tagged for four runs over 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Yankees on Tuesday night.
Two of the runs scored after he reached his pitch-count and was replaced by Jo-Jo Reyes. All told, Bedard allowed five hits and three walks while striking out three. He now has a 6.23 ERA over his first three spring starts, but the good news is that we haven't heard anything about an injury. He should be useful in mixed leagues until his inevitable trip to the disabled list.
