Mon Feb 4 201310:15Mets do not have interest in Matsuzaka
A Mets official told Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe that the team has no interest in Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Cafardo suggested this weekend that the rebuilding Mets might be a good fit for Matsuzaka, who has struggled to attract interest this winter after posting an 8.28 ERA over 11 starts in 2012. The 32-year-old right-hander might wind up heading back to his native Japan.

Sun Feb 3 201311:26Astros, Mets considering Matsuzaka
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe hears that the Astros and Mets are "kicking around the possibility" of signing Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Matsuzaka will have to settle for a minor league deal, and he could wind up heading back to Japan if he doesn't like his chances of cracking an Opening Day roster. A report from Sports Hochi last month stated that the right-hander was deciding on minor league offers from the Indians, Marlins and Mets.

Wed Jan 16 201322:54Matsuzaka down to Indians, Marlins, Mets
Sports Hochi reports that Daisuke Matsuzaka is deciding on minor league offers from the Indians, Marlins and Mets.
There's another report that says Matsuzaka could wind up deciding to return to Japan, but it's an unlikely proposition at this point. Matsuzaka struggled mightily after returning from Tommy John surgery in 2012 and is looking to re-establish his value, but it sounds like he'll have to fight for an Opening Day roster spot.

Sun Dec 30 201220:48Matsuzaka considering return to Japan?
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe writes that Daisuke Matsuzaka is considering playing in Japan next season.
Matsuzaka struggled mightily after returning from Tommy John surgery in 2012, and is looking to reestablish his value on a one-year deal. He told Japanese media last month that his preference is play for San Diego, but there's been no indication that the Padres are interested in signing him. If Matsuzaka doesn't land a guaranteed contract in free agency, a return to Japan can't be ruled out. He posted a 1-7 record, 8.28 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over 11 starts in his final season with the Red Sox.

Sat Nov 24 201218:49Daisuke Matsuzaka wants to pitch for Padres
According to Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Daisuke Matsuzaka wants to pitch for the Padres.
Matsuzaka struggled mightily after returning from Tommy John surgery in 2012, compiling a 1-7 record, 8.28 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over 11 starts for the Red Sox. But he has told the Japanese media that he likes the idea of pitching in San Diego, and a one-year incentive-laden deal might be worth the risk for both sides.

Wed Oct 3 201222:59Matsuzaka, Red Sox close 2012 with a thud
Daisuke Matsuzaka was rocked for five runs on six hits and two home runs in just 2 1/3 innings of Boston's season-ending, 14-2 loss to the Yankees.
It was a fitting end to both the sound and fury of the one-year Bobby Valentine "era" in Boston, and Dice-K's mostly disappointing six-year tenure as a member of the Red Sox. Matsuzaka finishes 2012 the owner of an absurdly bad 8.28 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 41/20 K/BB across 45 2/3 frames. As for his six years in Beantown, he closes up shop with a 4.52 mark in 668 1/3 innings. Not exactly what the Red Sox had in mind when they shelled out a total of $103 million in 2007. The 32-year-old righty could be headed back to Japan.

Fri Sep 21 201217:30Matsuzaka to have next start skipped
The Red Sox are planning to skip Daisuke Matsuzaka's next scheduled start, allowing Zach Stewart to make a spot start.
Matsuzaka will still make one more start before the end of the season, they just want to give him a bit of a breather. Through his first 10 starts on the season, he owns a horrifying 7.68 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in 43 1/3 innings.

Wed Sep 19 201223:46Daisuke shelled again
Daisuke Matsuzaka was roughed up in Wednesday's loss to the Rays, allowing five runs on nine hits and two home runs in just three innings of work.
It was just the latest dud for a hurler who's now sporting a 7.68 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 39/19 K/BB ratio across 43 1/3 innings and 10 starts. An impending free agent, Matsuzaka certainly won't be back with the Red Sox in 2013.

Fri Sep 14 201223:09Matsuzaka unimpressive in no-decision
Daisuke Matsuzaka was unimpressive in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Friday, allowing four runs on three hits over his 5 1/3 innings.
He racked up five strikeouts while walking three in the game. Most of the damage came in the third inning, with runs scoring on a wild pitch, base-on-balls and an RBI groundout. He's been very ineffective thus far, posting a 1-5 record, 7.14 ERA and 37/18 K/BB ratio over 40 1/3 innings. He'll look for better results when he squares off against the Rays in Tampa Bay on Wednesday.

Tue Sep 11 201216:49Dice-K to remain in Red Sox starting rotation
Daisuke Matsuzaka will remain in the Red Sox starting rotation for at least one more return.
The Red Sox were considering moving the struggling right-hander into a mop-up relief role, but it won't happen yet. Matsuzaka was torched for five runs in less than two innings last week against the Blue Jays. He will face Toronto again this Friday night.

Sun Sep 9 201219:37Red Sox considering Matsuzaka for bullpen
The Red Sox are considering moving Daisuke Matsuzaka to the bullpen.
"I'm not sure," manager Bobby Valentine said when asked if Matsuzaka would make his next start. "Going to see. Have some meetings here with him. He was very disappointed yesterday." Matsuzaka is 1-5 with a 7.20 ERA in 35 innings (eight starts) this season. If removed from the starting rotation, he would be replaced by Alfredo Aceves.

Sun Sep 9 201200:26Daisuke Matsuzaka gets pulled in second
Daisuke Matsuzaka was lit up for five runs in 1 1/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Blue Jays.
Matsuzaka is auditioning for his next contract this month, but it sure isn't going well, as he's given up 11 runs in five innings in his last two starts. It isn't all bad news for the Red Sox, though. Sure, they lost 9-2 tonight, but Jose Iglesias collected a single. And they're one game closer to securing a top-10 draft pick for the first time since they got Trot Nixon seventh overall in 1993.

Sun Sep 2 201219:05Daisuke Matsuzaka hit hard by A's
Daisuke Matsuzaka yielded six runs in 3 2/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the A's.
Same old Dice-K. He looked very good in his first start back from the DL against the Royals on Monday, but he was in trouble right from the start today. He walked four and allowed homers to Seth Smith and Stephen Drew before being pulled.

Tue Aug 28 201210:08Red Sox place Daisuke Matsuzaka on waivers
Daisuke Matsuzaka has been placed on trade waivers.
Dice-K looked sharp in his latest outing Monday against the Royals, going seven innings without allowing an earned run. He is set to become a free agent after this season, so the Red Sox would probably be open to moving him if a team puts in a claim. The 31-year-old right-hander is owed around $2 million.

Mon Aug 27 201216:21Daisuke Matsuzaka beats Royals in return
Back from the disabled list, Daisuke Matsuzaka picked up his first win of the year after allowing just an unearned run over seven innings versus the Royals on Monday.
Matsuzaka was exceptional today, and he likely would have been successful even against a superior lineup. Still, it's not like there's any reason to expect consistency from him going forward. He can be played in AL-only leagues, but there's a pretty good chance he'll give up four runs over five innings next time out.

Daisuke Matsuzaka (neck) will be activated from the disabled list and return to the Red Sox rotation for a start at home Monday night against the Royals.
In his five starts before hitting the 15-day DL, Matsuzaka posted a 6.65 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 20/8 K/BB ratio over 23 innings. He should be avoided in most fantasy formats.

Fri Aug 17 201209:13Valentine 'very encouraged' with Dice-K's
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said he was "very encouraged" about what he heard regarding Daisuke Matsuzaka's (neck) last rehab start Wednesday.
Matsuzaka threw four scoreless innings for Triple-A Pawtucket before getting knocked around in the fifth. "I didn't see it, but Arnie [Beyeler, Pawtucket manager] and Rich [Sauveur, pitching coach] said it was his best stuff that he's had in a while," Valentine said. Matsuzaka will make another rehab start early next week. His 30-day rehab window ends on August 29, at which point he seems likely be activated to serve in a long relief role.

Mon Aug 6 201209:39Matsuzaka (neck) makes second rehab start
Daisuke Matsuzaka (neck) pitched three-plus innings in his second rehab appearance Sunday with Triple-A Pawtucket.
He allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits, and was removed after 75 pitches. Matsuzaka reached 92 mph on his fastball, and continues to make strides in his recovery from a right upper trapezius strain.
