Peavy (back) struck out five and walked three while giving up four runs on four hits over four innings in a loss to the Padres on Sunday.
It was a rough outing for Peavy, who missed his first scheduled start of the season due to back soreness. Peavy needed 87 pitches to record 12 outs Sunday, and a grand slam from former teammate Wil Nieves in the fourth inning ultimately chased him from the start. He's scheduled to make his next start Friday against the D-backs at AT&T Park.

Manager Bruce Bochy is hopeful that Peavy (back) will be able to start Sunday, Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
It looked Tuesday like Peavy was headed to the disabled list, but he reported feeling much better Wednesday, and it now appears that he could still make his first start of the season this weekend. The Giants are still listing Sunday's starter as "TBD," but expect an update on their plans after Peavy tests things out again in the next couple days.
Wed Apr 8 201519:13Jake Peavy: (Back) Could Avoid DL
Peavy (back) was feeling much better and should avoid being placed on the DL on Wednesday, the San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Schulman reports.
He was throwing at full speed for at least 15 minutes prior to Wednesday's game, and the real test could come with how his back feels Thursday. Trainers popped a joint in his back into place prior to him throwing the bullpen session, which lends hope to the idea of him making his scheduled start Sunday. Owners will want to monitor his status closely in the coming days.

Peavy felt some soreness in his injured back during Tuesday's bullpen session and he's likely headed to the DL, MLB.com reports.
Initial reports were that the session went fine, but sounds like he had some soreness later. The Giants haven't officially ruled him out from starting Saturday and will make a DL decision Wednesday, but it sounds like he'll miss at least another start.
Tue Apr 7 201521:08Peavy (back) completed bullpen session Thursday
Peavy (back) completed a bullpen session Thursday, CSNBayArea.com reports.
With Peavy making it through the session without issue, he is on track to make his 2015 debut Sunday against San Diego, likely opposite Tyson Ross. Peavy's back locked up last week, resulting in his scratch from his scheduled outing Tuesday, but he said Thursday he's been responding to treatment.
Tue Apr 7 201518:29Peavy penciled in to start against Padres on Sunday
Peavy is penciled in to start against the Padres on Sunday, Andrew Baggarly of the Mercury News reports.
A back issue will keep Peavy from making his debut Tuesday against Arizona, but he said he was hoping to make his next start and the Giants seem to think he will. Peavy revealed that his back first locked up last week, but he has been responding positively to treatment. Ryan Vogelsong is starting in Peavy's place Tuesday.
Mon Apr 6 201520:00Jake Peavy: Scratched Tuesday With Back Soreness
Peavy won't make his scheduled start Tuesday due to a back issue, but hopes to make his next scheduled start Sunday, the San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Schulman reports.
He said he's had treatment since his back locked up last week and he feels better, but he's not feeling well enough to take the ball yet. It is not clear who will take Peavy's spot in the rotation Tuesday, as the Giants could move Matt Cain up a day, or they could use some combination of Yusmeiro Petit and Ryan Vogelsong in a bullpen game. Either way, consider Peavy questionable for Sunday's game.
Tue Mar 24 201513:19Peavy working on adding straight changeup to arsenal this spring
Peavy has been working on adding a straight changeup to his arsenal this spring, CSN Bay Area reports.
The 33-year-old Peavy can no longer retire hitters by simply overpowering them, so he has been working on his off-speed pitches to increase the different looks he offers hitter. He already threw a two-seam changeup - which breaks to his right similar to his sinker - but the four-seam changeup is straight, similar to his four-seam fastball. Peavy has seen his K/9 decline every season since 2012, but he seemed to turn a corner when he was traded to the Giants last season, changing his pitching style to match his lowered velocity and it resulted in a 2.17 ERA through 12 starts. It is unlikely that he will have that low of an ERA in 2015, but if he continues to mix speeds and locate, he could be a low-to-mid three ERA pitcher with a 6 K/9.
Fri Dec 19 201409:34Jake Peavy: Re-Signs with Giants for Two Years
Peavy re-signed with the Giants on Friday on a two-year, $24 million contract, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.
After a rotten start to the season with Boston, Peavy was spectacular after landing in San Francisco in late July, posting a 2.17 ERA and 1.04 WHIP over his 12 regular-season starts with the Giants. Though his strikeout rate plummeted to a career-worst 7.02 K/9 last season, Peavy's ability to limit his walks and play to the favorable dimensions of AT&T Park could allow him to find continued success with the Giants.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy confirmed that Peavy (thumb) will start Game 6 of the World Series on Tuesday, Chris Haft of MLB.com reports.
Peavy attempted to barehand a foul ball in the dugout during last Friday's Game 3, resulting in a bruised right thumb for the 33-year-old. It won't prevent him from pitching in Tuesday, but he may have a relatively short leash, with the Giants hoping to avoid a Game 7.
Sat Oct 18 201417:35Peavy will start Game 2 of World Series against Royals
Peavy will start Game 2 of the World Series against the Royals, Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Peavy will follow Madison Bumgarner in the Giants rotation as the team chases it's third World Series title in six seasons. He struggled through his last outing, being chase after just four innings, but allowed just two runs. The veteran will face a Royals team that has won every game this postseason heading into the World Series.
Fri Oct 10 201418:53Peavy will start Game 2 of NLCS against Cardinals on Sunday
Peavy will start Game 2 of the NLCS against the Cardinals on Sunday, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The right-hander allowed just two hits over 5.2 scoreless innings in the Giants' Game 1 victory in the NLDS, and he'll be on eight days' rest when he faces St. Louis on Sunday. Peavy, a 12-year veteran, has made just nine starts against St. Louis in his career, the last of which came back in 2012.
Thu Oct 2 201413:10Peavy will start Game 1 of NLDS against Nationals on Friday
Peavy will start Game 1 of the NLDS against the Nationals on Friday, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Peavy was included on the team's Wild Card roster as insurance in case Madison Bumgarner was driven from the game early, but Bumgarner tossed a shutout and thus afforded Peavy the opportunity to oppose Nats ace Stephen Strasburg in the opener of the NLDS. The 33-year-old Peavy was outstanding in 12 starts after coming over from Boston, posting a 2.17 ERA and 1.04 WHIP over 78.2 innings.

Peavy went five innings Saturday, giving up one run on four hits while walking three and striking out three in the win over the Padres.
Peavy pitched well in his final start of the regular season, but he didn't last long enough to factor into the decision. After a rough start with the Red Sox (1-9, 4.72 ERA), the veteran right-hander has been revitalized after being acquired by the Giants at the trade deadline (6-4, 2.17 ERA). Peavy's season is a classic example of what going from a hitter's park in the American League to a pitcher's park in the National League can do for a pitcher's statistics. The Giants are hoping this wasn't his last start for them this year, but either way, there is a good chance Peavy extends his player option to rejoin the club in 2015.

Peavy allowed two runs on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts in a no-decision Monday versus the Dodgers.
Peavy continues to be nails for the Giants down the stretch. The veteran is 3-0 with a 1.38 ERA in four September starts. Peavy will face his former Padres club in his final outing of the regular season Saturday.

Peavy was dazzling again Tuesday night, allowing just one run on five hits, walking one, and striking out four over 7.2 innings of a 2-1 win against the Diamondbacks in Arizona.
After a disastrous start to the season where he went 1-9 with the Red Sox, Peavy (7-13, 3.82 ERA) has turned it around in a big way in San Francisco. He hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of his last seven starts - six of which resulted in wins - and he will look to keep it going when he faces the Dodgers in Chavez Ravine next time out in what figures to be a game with serious playoff implications.

Peavy tossed 5.2 strong innings Thursday against the D-Backs, improving to 5-4 as a Giant by allowing just one run on six hits with eight strikeouts.
After going 1-9 with Boston and then struggling over his first few starts with the Giants, Peavy's turned over a new leaf -- or perhaps an old one. He finished one out short of recording his sixth consecutive quality start and has allowed just five earned runs in his last six outings dating back to Aug. 13. He'll draw another date against Arizona on Tuesday, this time in the desert.

Peavy worked six strong innings in Friday's victory over the Tigers, giving up two unearned runs on six hits while striking out three.
Peavy extends his run of impressive work on the mound, as the veteran hurler is now 4-1 over his past five starts. During this stretch, the three-time All-Star is sporting an outstanding 1.04 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 27:7 K:BB ratio across 34.2 innings. Peavy will look to keep it going Thursday afternoon versus the Diamondbacks.

Peavy picked up the win Saturday as he pitched 7.2 innings, striking out eight while giving up only one hit and three walks against the Brewers.
Peavy had a no-hitter going into the eighth inning but allowed a one out single to Mark Reynolds. Since being acquired by the Giants, Peavy has had an ERA of 2.66 and a K:BB ratio of 36:12 in seven starts.

Peavy took a tough loss Monday, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts over seven innings against the Rockies.
Peavy doesn't have the stuff he once did, as witnessed by his career low 7.04 K/9 this year. Still, the right-hander has pitch well since coming to San Francisco, owning a 2-3 record with 2.94 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over his last five starts. He's scheduled to face the Brewers on Saturday.
