Fri Jul 12 201321:26Clippers could be World Peace's top choice
Metta World Peace has the Los Angeles Clippers atop his list of possible destination, according to Sam Amick of USA Today.
He's had some wild ideas about his post-Laker career -- including playing in China or even coaching in the Arena Football League. World Peace is one of the biggest characters in the NBA, so it's tough to really guess what he'll wind up doing. There will be some funny quotes coming from MWP, but there will be a lot of nonsensical stuff along the way, too. For what it's worth, the Clippers have three solid small forwards with Matt Barnes, Jared Dudley and rookie Reggie Bullock.

Fri Jul 12 201317:04World Peace wants to play in China next year
Metta World Peace told NBC Los Angeles he has no interest in playing in the NBA next season and would prefer to play in China.
World Peace's other interests for next season? He wants to be a player development coach or play in the Arena Football League. We never know what to expect with MWP, but this seems a little out of bounds even for him. World Peace was placed on waivers Friday as the Lakers plan to use their amnesty buyout on him. World Peace's own father said last week that his son planned to retire if bought out, but changed his tune Friday and said World Peace could play for the Knicks. Stay tuned.

Fri Jul 12 201309:33Knicks a 'big, big possibility' for MWP
The Knicks are a "big, big possibility" for Metta World Peace, according to his father, Ron Artest Sr.
"I feel it's a big, big possibility," Artest Sr. said. It all makes sense for the Queens native, but the Knicks are unlikely to be able to offer the most amount of money to pick him up. World Peace will have to clear waivers from teams that are under the cap before contending teams can try and sign him.

Wed Jul 10 201309:39Metta World Peace wants to play for contender
Sam Amick reports on USA Today that if the Lakers amnesty Metta World Peace, his preferred teams, in order, are the Knicks, Clippers, Nets, Bulls, Heat, Thunder, Spurs and Pacers.
Notice a pattern? MWP wants to play for a championship and this report throws cold water on the notion that he would retire if L.A. lets him go. The other takeaway, and possibly the reason retirement was even mentioned, is that he doesn't want a non-playoff team to claim him (and his $7 million salary) off waivers.

Tue Jul 9 201319:36Dad says World Peace to retire if amnestied
Metta World Peace's father told SNY.tv his son said he'll retire if he's amnestied by the Lakers.
We find this a little hard to believe for the time being. For one, World Peace proved he can still contribute to a playoff team last season. Also, he would reportedly have at least seven contenders interested in his services if the Lakers decide to buy him out. Although nothing is ever certain with World Peace, we still think he'll be in the NBA next season.

Tue Jul 9 201317:03Many teams interested in Metta World Peace
The Clippers, Knicks, Nets, Bulls, Heat, Thunder, Spurs and Pacers are possible destinations for Metta World Peace, assuming he is amnestied by the Lakers.
It's not a coincidence that all of these teams made the playoffs. These contenders are a bit tight on cap space, which suggests that MWP would have to clear waivers and not get picked up by a rebuilding team. His player option for this season is $7.7 million and the Lakers are going to have to ear a large portion of that -- even though it won't count against the cap.

Tue Jul 9 201315:44Metta World Peace interested in joining NYK
If he is amnestied by the Lakers, Metta World Peace "hopes to land with the Knicks," according to his longtime friend and head of his foundation Jose Morales.
Morales adds that MWP doesn't want to play with a small-market team. World Peace is a Queens native and went to St. John's, so it's not a surprise to see him want to return home. The interest might be moot since the Knicks are strapped for cap space.

Mon Jul 8 201320:01Report: Lakers to amnesty World Peace
The Lakers will reportedly amnesty Metta World Peace according to Kevin Ding of the Orange County Register.
The Lakers will save about $30 million in salary and tax on the transaction according to Ding, and now MWP will go on the open market as a declining veteran small forward that can shoot threes and push people around. Beyond that, his defense has declined and injuries are beginning to pile up.

Sat Jul 6 201310:30No decision yet on World Peace amnesty
The Lakers still haven't decided if they'll use the amnesty clause on Metta World Peace.
World Peace is owed $7.27 million in 2013-14, the final year of his contract. Considering the dearth of talent and salary cap hell the Lakers are in, paying Metta to go away wouldn't do much good. They won't be players in the free agency market until next summer anyway.

Tue Jun 25 201312:27Update: Metta World Peace staying w/ Lakers
Updating a previous item, Metta World peace will not opt out of his contract with the Lakers.
Just as we expected. The Lakers could potentially use the amnesty clause on World Peace's contract, but it makes little sense to do so considering how far over the salary cap the team is and there is no replacement for World Peace's defense on the roster. On a team with Mike D'Antoni as head coach and as the roster is constructed currently, an overpaid World Peace is a necessity.

Tue Jun 25 201312:00Report: Metta World Peace expected to opt in
A source close to Metta World Peace said it would be a shock if World Peace opted out of his contract.
World Peace hasn't made his decision final yet, but he's not going to get what he's currently making with the Lakers as a free agent. A final decision is expected very shortly with the deadline looming.

Thu Jun 20 201309:35World Peace hasn't decided on player option
Metta World Peace has not decided whether to opt in or out for next season yet.
It seems like a no-brainer for MWP to opt in considering he won't make what he's making with the Lakers on the open market, but he's unpredictable and could opt out with the hope of securing a longer deal. We should have our answer by early next week.

Thu Jun 6 201315:34World Peace plans to play six more seasons
Metta World Peace said he plans to play 20 seasons before retiring.
World Peace just wrapped up his 14th season, which saw him post some of his best numbers in years. While it's good that he's confident, six years is a very long time, especially when World Peace will turn 34 in November. We remain skeptical that the player formerly known as Ron Artest will still be able to contribute by the end of this decade, but stranger things have happened.

Wed Jun 5 201308:27Metta World Peace's knee now fully healed
Metta World Peace's surgically-repaired knee is now fully healed.
World Peace remarkably returned less than two weeks after having knee surgery during the season, but he wasn't himself after returning and ultimately had to shut it down. He should be fully healthy going into next year, and although he's yet to make a decision about his player option, a source told the Los Angeles Daily News that Peace is expected to opt in. Considering he's set to make $7.7 million by doing so, it should be an easy decision.

Tue Jun 4 201317:01World Peace still likely to opt in with LAL
Metta World Peace said he will leave his opt out decision up to agent Marc Cornstein.
World Peace's one-year option is worth $7.7 million. Coming off a bounce-back year that saw him average 12.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.9 3-pointers and 1.5 assists, it's possible he could get land a two-year worth a little more on the open market. It's also possible that if he opts in, the Lakers will amnesty him. Cornstein has a lot to work through before the June 25 deadline for a decision.

Mon Apr 29 201314:17World Peace thinks he'll be Laker next year
Metta World Peace said he "definitely" thinks he'll be a Laker next season.
World Peace has a player option for a little over $7.7 million next season and we'd be shocked if he didn't exercise it. However, there's a lot of talk about the Lakers using their amnesty exemption on World Peace and buying him out before attempting to re-sign Dwight Howard. World Peace has a bounce-back season in 2012-13, averaging 12.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.9 3-pointers and 1.5 assists in 33 minutes per game. If the Lakers do cut bait, we imagine he'll lock on somewhere.

Sat Apr 27 201316:25Metta World Peace out, Earl Clark starting
Metta World Peace (knee) will not play against the Spurs on Sunday in Game 4.
Earl Clark is going to get the start and the Lakers are basically rolling with a D-League team in the playoffs. Antawn Jamison will be called upon for some scoring boost, but the Spurs shouldn't have any problem closing out this series at Staples Center.

Sat Apr 27 201301:59Metta World Peace says he's doubtful for Sun.
Metta World Peace said that he's doubtful for Sunday's Game 4 vs. the Spurs.
"I wasn't effective," World Peace said. "There's no sense to stay in if we have guys who can win. We'll win Sunday." He might want to talk to his psychiatrist after that quote. Kidding aside, the Lakers have been dealing the injury bug about as bad as any team in recent memory and they're going to be in deep, deep trouble. Antawn Jamison will likely get more time at small forward, but it's unlikely to make a difference for the decimated Lakers.

Fri Apr 26 201312:05Metta World Peace dealing with Baker's Cyst
Metta World Peace is dealing with a Baker's Cyst in his knee, and he had it drained in advance of Friday's Game 3 vs. the Spurs.
World Peace tweeted the photo and was not listed on the Lakers injury report, so we expect him to play in Game 3, but it's another indication that he's not anywhere close to 100 percent after returning extremely early from knee surgery. A Baker's Cyst is a term for swelling behind the knee due to an irregular buildup of fluid, a possible side effect after World Peace returned from surgery far earlier than anticipated.
