Tue Oct 8 201317:13Heat pick up Norris Cole's 2014-15 option
The Heat have picked up Norris Cole's $2 million option for the 2014-15 season.
It's a reasonable salary for Cole, who averaged nearly 20 minutes in 80 appearances last season while knocking down 35.7 percent of his 3-pointers (up from 27.6 percent his rookie year). Unfortunately, he's not a fantasy asset as long as Mario Chalmers is healthy.

Tue Oct 8 201309:21Norris Cole aware of recent trade rumors
Norris Cole is aware of recent rumors that the Heat might trade him, but he said he's "comfortable" in Miami.
Cole's challenge is to play more consistently this year, while improving his playmaking skills. "Steady progress," Erik Spoelstra said. "The ability to run the team, get other people involved, make other players better consistently every possession, those things he will continue to make strides in." With Mario Chalmers healthy and both LeBron James and Dwyane Wade ready to initiate the offense, there isn't much fantasy upside for Cole.

Fri May 10 201323:30Norris Cole continues his hot streak in win
Norris Cole shot 6-of-7 from the field for 18 points in Friday's 104-94 win over the Bulls, adding two boards, one assist and three 3-pointers.
He's converted all eight attempts from beyond the arc in this series and he's playing head and shoulders better than starter Mario Chalmers (nine points, three assists and three turnovers). Cole is making his case for more minutes and he's been a nice counter to Nate Robinson at the point. Dwyane Wade was also efficient in the win, making 5-of-7 from the field for 10 points with four boards and five assists in 36 minutes.

Thu Apr 18 201300:14Norris Cole scores nine on off shooting
Norris Cole played 41 minutes in Miami's 105-93 win over the Magic on Wednesday, shooting 4-of-10 from the field for nine points with three boards, seven assists and two steals.
He flirted with a triple-double on Monday, so this was a bit of a letdown for those that picked him up. Cole didn't really make any strides in his sophomore year and is unlikely to get more than 20 minutes per game in the postseason with Mike Miller playing well.

Mon Apr 15 201321:48Norris Cole narrowly misses triple-double
Norris Cole scored 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting (including two threes) with 11 rebounds, nine assists, one steal and one block in the Heat's win over the Cavs on Monday.
Cole also stole the ball from Kyrie Irving on the game's final play to secure the win. Expecting this production from Cole in the season finale is inadvisable even if Mario Chalmers sits out a game, but there's enough for owners to grab onto here to take a long look at picking him up.

Tue Apr 2 201323:46Norris Cole turns the ball over seven times
Norris Cole turned the ball over seven times against the Knicks on Tuesday to go with 14 points, two boards, three assists, two steals and one 3-pointer in 42 minutes.
He has a ton of athleticism, but his carelessness with the basketball was on full display tonight. Cole was able to get to the rim nearly at will with the lead-footed Raymond Felton and Jason Kidd guarding him, but his value should take a hit on Friday with the cavalry likely coming back. He can be left on the waiver wire.

Tue Apr 2 201314:24Heat rolling with same starting five as Sun.
The Heat will start Norris Cole, Mike Miller, Rashard Lewis, Udonis Haslem and Chris Bosh against the Knicks Tuesday.
It's the same starting five that produced a win in San Antonio on Sunday. Bosh is a virtual lock to lead the team in scoring while Cole will push for 40 minutes and Ray Allen will flirt with 30 off the bench. Owners desperate for 3-pointers can take a long look at Miller.

Sun Mar 31 201321:34Norris Cole logs 42 minutes in start at PG
Norris Cole played 42 minutes with Mario Chalmers unavailable on Sunday, scoring 13 points with four assists and one steal.
Cole's line would have looked better had he made a few more shots (4-of-12 from the field), but he only turned the ball over twice in a controller performance that ultimately paid off with a road win. Chalmers has missed two straight games and is questionable for Tuesday, giving Cole some short-term potential.

Sun Mar 24 201321:08Norris Cole scores 15 points in win vs. CHA
Norris Cole scored 15 points with three rebounds and six assists as Miami rolled to their 16th straight win on Sunday.
This was one of Cole's finest performances of the season, as he penetrated through Charlotte's defense at will and found Miami's shooters for easy buckets. Don't expect a repeat performance in the near future.

Fri Dec 14 201209:04Norris Cole eating into Mario Chalmers' time
Norris Cole has been eating into Mario Chalmers' minutes late in games.
Despite Chalmers being "entrenched" as the starting point guard, he's been routinely watching from the bench in the fourth quarter. Chalmers and Cole have been splitting minutes at the point pretty evenly of late, and it's a situation worth watching for anyone relying on either player for production.

Fri Dec 7 201200:04Norris Cole doesn't score on Thursday
Norris Cole returned from a hamstring injury and didn't score while adding one rebound, one assist, one steal and one block vs. the Knicks on Thursday.
Cole missed just one game with the hamstring and he was logging under 20 minutes per game as the backup to Mario Chalmers. Cole would need Chalmers to miss time in order to be on the radar in standard leagues.

Thu Dec 6 201218:18Norris Cole and Udonis Haslem should play
Norris Cole (hamstring) and Udonis Haslem both warmed up for Thursday's game and are expected to play.
Mario Chalmers is also a game-time decision and there has been no word on his availability. Cole and Haslem only serve as spot starters for deeper daily leagues and shouldn't be owned in most formats.

Thu Dec 6 201211:23Norris Cole a game-time call on Thursday
Norris Cole (groin/hamstring) is a game-time decision against the Knicks on Thursday.
Cole couldn't play on Tuesday with the injury, and with Mario Chalmers (finger) also a game-time decision, the Heat could be forced to use LeBron James at point guard.

Tue Dec 4 201217:23Norris Cole out w/ slight hamstring strain
Norris Cole will not play on Tuesday due to a slightly strained hamstring/groin.
Cole's absence leaves Mario Chalmers on an island at PG, though Miami doesn't rely much on traditional PG play anyway.

Sat Dec 1 201222:33Norris Cole scores 12 points in 30 minutes
Norris Cole scored 12 points in 30 minutes vs. the Nets, hitting 5-of-10 FGs with one 3-pointer, one assist, three steals and zero turnovers.
This was Cole's first game with double-digit points, which tempers our enthusiasm, but it's possible he'll continue to chip into Mario Chalmers' playing time (Chalmers had seven points and six rebounds in 18 minutes). Keep an eye on this minute-share, just in case it tilts decisively in Cole's favor.

Fri Nov 16 201201:26Cole hits big 3-pointer to help Miami win
Norris Cole hit a big 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter as his highlight of his seven points, adding three assists, one steal and one block in 39 minutes.
He had a rough start by shooting just 3-of-12 from the field, but this could be a hot stretch for fantasy value. Mario Chalmers (triceps) could miss time and Cole figures to pick up most of Chalmers 28 minutes per game. He deserves a look in deeper formats as a speculative add.

Sun Nov 11 201221:16Norris Cole cutting into Mario Chalmers' role
Norris Cole scored seven points with four rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes off Miami's bench on Sunday, the third consecutive game he's logged 20+ minutes.
Cole's rise is cutting into Mario Chalmers' playing time, as Mario has failed to crack 27 minutes in those three games. Of the two, Chalmers has considerably more upside thanks to his starting gig and ability to contribute 3-pointers, assists and steals in bunches.

Fri Oct 26 201209:16Norris Cole improving from three-point land
Norris Cole has improved his shot from behind the 3-point line.
Cole is 7-for-9 from distance in the preseason, and while that's an extremely small sample size, Cole discussed getting a "better base" for his shot in the offseason. Erik Spoelstra admitted that he's seen improvement in Cole's shot, but the second-year PG is still learning as he's got 24 turnovers in the preseason compared to just 15 assists.

Tue Oct 23 201223:47Norris Cole fails to impress at PG again
Norris Cole had nine points, one rebound, one assist and three turnovers Tuesday against the Bobcats.
Cole again started in place of the injured Mario Chalmers (quad), but has yet to do anything to secure the full-time job. Cole's fantasy value is further limited by a Miami offense that is filled with other players that can handle the ball.

Sun Oct 21 201211:03Norris Cole struggling as starting PG
Norris Cole has been starting at PG in place of injured Mario Chalmers (quad) this preseason, but he's accumulated just 13 assists vs. 18 turnovers in five games.
Cole has done nothing to steal the starting gig from Chalmers, though he may start at PG by default until his teammate is healthy -- there's currently no clear timetable for Chalmers' return. Miami's backup PG situation is just as hazy, though it's not overly important since guys like Ray Allen, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James can all handle the ball when necessary.
