Sat Sep 3 201122:13Trent Edwards can't make Raiders
Raiders released Trent Edwards.
Within the past 12 months, Edwards has now been let go by teams starting Ryan Fitzpatrick, David Garrard and Jason Campbell. He simply isn't an NFL-level talent, even as a backup.

Sat Jul 30 201117:36Raiders bring aboard Trent Edwards
Raiders signed QB Trent Edwards to a one-year contract.
Oakland is one of the better places Edwards could have ended up, as he should be given a shot at unseating Kyle Boller as the Raiders' backup quarterback. With Jason Campbell hardly having a vice-grip on the starting job, there's a real possibility Edwards could see playing time this season. The Raiders will hope not, of course, because he refuses to threaten defenses with a check-down first mentality. Edwards has been injured every season of his football career dating back to high school and often looks afraid in the pocket.

Wed May 4 201114:56Jaguars didn't extend tender to Trent Edwards
The Jaguars did not extend a restricted free agent tender to Trent Edwards before the March 3 deadline.
In other words, they're cutting ties and Edwards will be an unrestricted free agent once the lockout ends. Edwards, 27, is no longer viewed as a potential starter, but he could resurface as a backup in a West Coast offense. The Eagles -- after they trade Kevin Kolb -- Bengals, Seahawks, Redskins, Texans, Browns, and 49ers all fit the description to various degrees.

Sat Mar 19 201120:53Seahawks went after Edwards last offseason
Before acquiring Charlie Whitehurst last offseason, the Seahawks were reportedly interested in then Bills QB Trent Edwards.
You could say both teams misread the market. Seattle went after a player that would eventually be released, while the Bills declined to deal a player they would end up getting nothing for. Questionable personnel moves are nothing new for either team, though both will get their latest chance to start afresh in next month's draft.

Mon Mar 14 201110:44Edwards' passes were headed for picks
Out of Trent Edwards' 101 pass attempts last season, five were intercepted and three more should have been picked off.
Even though Edwards was the king of the checkdown with Buffalo and Jacksonville in 2010, he still found defenders' hands at a high rate. The 7.9 percent of his passes that were or should have been picked is extremely high, more than Mark Sanchez's 5.5 percent mark and Ryan Fitzpatrick's 4.8 rate. Edwards has the look of a career clipboard holder at best.

Wed Oct 27 201019:23Trent Edwards resumes practicing fully
Jaguars backup QB Trent Edwards (thumb) has resumed practicing in full.
David Garrard (concussion) is coming back this week, so Edwards is competing on the practice field with Todd Bouman to back up Garrard against Dallas.
Fri Oct 22 201013:42Trent Edwards practices in limited manner
Trent Edwards (questionable, thumb) was able to practice on a limited basis for the first time this week Friday.
"We don't have to make a decision who to start until game time," said coach Jack Del Rio. "He was able to grip the ball, throw the ball today. We didn't want to overdo it so he was limited today." According to Jaguars.com, Todd Bouman took "nearly all of the snaps" during the practice week. Bouman figures to start against K.C., with Edwards available off the bench.

Thu Oct 21 201017:02Edwards, Garrad miss practice again Thursday
Trent Edwards (thumb) was held out of practice again on Thursday.
Coordinator Dirk Koetter disclosed Thursday that Edwards actually sustained the injury in the first half Monday and didn't tell anyone until after the game. Edwards was able to lose his splint on Thursday, but the thumb is still wrapped. Though he's spending his fair share of time in the hyperbaric chamber this week, Todd Bouman still looks like the starter against the Chiefs.

Wed Oct 20 201015:07Trent Edwards has 'large wrap' on right hand
Trent Edwards (thumb) was spotted with a "large wrap" on his injured throwing hand at Jaguars headquarters Wednesday.
"It's a pretty bad sprain," Edwards said of his right thumb. "We'll reevaluate it on Friday and see where I stand. I hit it on a helmet, on the top of a Titans defensive lineman's helmet." Edwards indicated that he won't practice on Thursday, either. He's not going to start against the Chiefs on Sunday.

Wed Oct 20 201013:13Jags planning to be without top two QBs
Coach Jack Del Rio confirmed Wednesday that the Jaguars are preparing to be without both Trent Edwards (thumb) and David Garrard (concussion) in Week 7.
Garrard almost certainly isn't going to play due to the NFL's concussion policy on a short week, and Edwards has a long history of recovering extremely slowly from every kind of injury you can imagine. Del Rio says he "hopes" one of them will be available against K.C., but Todd Bouman is likely to start.

Wed Oct 20 201012:04Edwards has splint on hand
Trent Edwards doesn't have anything structurally wrong with his thumb, but he was wearing a splint Wednesday.
It's just a bad sprain. Edwards said he expects to run the scout team Wednesday, and with David Garrard likely out, he'll be in line to start this weekend if he's OK. It's not a sure thing that he'll be ready, though. Patrick Ramsey has been brought in as insurance, and Todd Bouman is expected to re-sign, as well.

Tue Oct 19 201020:41Trent Edwards dealing with thumb injury
Coach Jack Del Rio revealed Tuesday that Trent Edwards suffered a thumb injury that could be "problematic" this week.
Edwards was beat up Monday night and spent hours in the training room after the game. Del Rio indicated that Edwards may have to be held out of Wednesday's practice. The Jaguars are confident that either Edwards or David Garrard (concussion) will be available for Sunday's game.

Tue Oct 19 201000:43Trent Edwards fills in, throws two picks
Trent Edwards completed 14-of-24 passes for 140 yards and two interceptions and added five scrambles for 16 yards in Week 6.
Edwards' came in late in the second quarter following David Garrard's concussion, and was in the midst of leading a triumphant scoring drive to close out the half only to have a Marcades Lewis fumble end in the red zone. The backup quarterback was never able to recover, and rightfully looked out of sync with the team's wide receivers. Don't rush to add Trent-ative, as he showed little to warrant a pickup even if David Garrard misses extended time.
Fri Oct 1 201021:39Trent Edwards to oust David Garrard?
NFL Network's Jason La Canfora predicts that Trent Edwards could begin starting games for the Jaguars in "two or three weeks."
David Garrard had better step it up. Edwards needs a few weeks to learn the offense (he's not even ahead of Todd Bouman on the depth chart yet), but La Canfora makes it sound like the Jaguars wouldn't even need to work around their Week 9 bye to make a switch. Edwards' insertion could be great news for Maurice Jones-Drew's PPR value. Trent-ative loves to check it down.
Tue Sep 28 201017:46Jets, Jags only two teams to claim Edwards
The Jets were the only other team put in a claim on Trent Edwards, losing out to the Jaguars.
Perhaps not so coincidentally, these are the two teams next on the schedule for the Bills. More likely, it was about the sorry state of the backups in Jacksonville and New York.

Tue Sep 28 201016:26Jaguars claim Trent Edwards off waivers
Jaguars claimed QB Trent Edwards off waivers from the Bills.
None of the winless teams had a need for a veteran backup. The Jags had only 38-year-old journeyman Todd Bouman behind David Garrard, who is deep in coach Jack Del Rio's doghouse after back-to-back disastrous outings. Edwards isn't the answer in Jacksonville, but he at least gives Del Rio another option if Garrard doesn't turn his season around.

Tue Sep 28 201014:2849ers opt not to claim Trent Edwards
Updating a previous item, the 49ers opted not to put in a waiver claim on QB Trent Edwards.
None of the NFL's winless teams deemed Edwards worthy of a waiver wire, which is no surprise considering his game tape and a $1.65 million base salary. The Seahawks are reported to have interest in Edwards, but they'd be better off waiting to see if he clears waivers altogether.

Tue Sep 28 201012:07Niners can have Edwards if they want him
The winless Lions, Browns and Panthers have not put in a waiver claim on free agent QB Trent Edwards, so if the 0-3 49ers did, he is theirs, according to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora.
The Niners and Seahawks have been reported to have interest in the former Bill. If Edwards is claimed by San Francisco, it's possible he could challenge Alex Smith for the starting job at some point this season.

Tue Sep 28 201009:27Waivers for Edwards TBD by 2010 records
It will actually be teams' 2010 record, not their 2009 record as initially reported, that will determine the waiver order for free agent QB Trent Edwards, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.
Evidently Monday was the only day of the year in which the waiver procedures potentially would overlap. It's good news for the 0-3 49ers, who would have dibs over a team like the Seahawks. ESPN's Chris Mortensen has listed the Panthers, Jaguars, Chiefs, and Jets as other teams that could have interest in Edwards.

Mon Sep 27 201020:34Multiple claims expected for QB Edwards
Multiple waiver claims are expected to be placed on former Bills QB Trent Edwards before Tuesday's 4 PM deadline.
According to PFT, both the 49ers and Seahawks "like" Edwards. Chris Mortensen lists the Panthers, Jaguars, Chiefs, and Jets as other teams that could have interest. It's important to note that waiver priority will be determined by team's 2009 records.
