Mon Sep 27 201012:21Bills let go of Trent Edwards
Bills released Trent Edwards.
The Bills being the Bills. They give Edwards first-team reps all offseason, decide he's their best QB, bench him after two weeks, and then dump him a week later. It's not that we disagree with playing Ryan Fitzpatrick; it's just the total lack of a coherent plan. It's a joke Buffalo didn't acquire a quarterback in the offseason. Look for Edwards to get a backup/third-string job fairly soon. Jacksonville?
Sun Sep 26 201011:21Report: Bills trying to trade Trent Edwards
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Bills have placed Trent Edwards on the trade block.
A week after benching him. Edwards' value is at an all-time low, so the Bills would be lucky to get a future seventh-round pick. Edwards could perhaps settle in as a long-term backup, but he's not solving any quarterback controversies. He's one of the least aggressive passers in the league, and has been injured in some form or fashion every year since his senior season in high school.

Mon Sep 20 201015:23Trent Edwards removed as starter
Trent Edwards has been removed as the Bills' starting quarterback.
Coach Chan Gailey called the move permanent, so the Edwards era in Buffalo has likely reached completion (which Jim Kelly supports). The former third-round pick is in the final year of his contract. Edwards will probably be let go after the season. He would do well to settle in as a long-term backup.
Sun Sep 19 201016:03Trent Edwards has two picks in loss
Trent Edwards completed 11-of-18 passes for 102 yards and two interceptions in the Bills' Week 2 loss to Green Bay.
He also scrambled for 12 yards on three carries. The Bills aren't going to be able to put up with Edwards for much longer without at least giving some thought to playing Brian Brohm. At the very least, Edwards will be on a short leash heading to Week 3 against the Patriots.
Fri Sep 3 201008:23Edwards wraps up preseason on high note
After going 4-of-4 for 66 yards on Thursday, Trent Edwards finished the preseason with a passer rating of 102.6.
Is there somewhere we can bet that Edwards' strong preseason play won't last. He had a passer rating of 73.8 last season while displaying happy feet in the pocket and checking down at every opportunity. Don't let this preseason fool you into drafting him as a QB2.

Thu Aug 19 201020:53Edwards looks impressive in preseason
Trent Edwards finished 5-of-8 for 93 yards and a touchdown pass in Thursday's preseason game against the Colts.
Edwards threw a perfect pass to Lee Evans for a 70 yard touchdown, and almost connected on another bomb. It's a good sign that Edwards is trying to go deep, as it's never been his forte. He is still not a fantasy option.

Fri Aug 13 201022:59Trent Edwards struggles in preseason opener
Trent Edwards completed 6-of-12 passes for just 58 yards and a pick in the Bills' exhibition opener at Washington.
It was a highly unimpressive effort. Though Edwards rarely had time to throw, his pocket presence was poor and his interception was very nearly returned to the house by DeAngelo Hall. The Bills won't win five games this year.
Thu Jul 29 201020:11Gailey: Edwards outplayed Brohm, Fitz
Coach Chan Gailey revealed that Trent Edwards outplayed Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm in spring practices.
"He just made a lot more plays that we thought were positive plays during the course of the minicamps and OTAs," Gailey said. "He did a good job of handling the team. He did a good job when he had the threes as well as when he had the ones." Edwards is the strong favorite to enter the regular season as the Bills' starter. Brian Brohm Dynasty owners can get back to reality.

Thu Jul 29 201015:33Edwards leads Bills' first unit
Trent Edwards entered Bills' camp as the No. 1 QB.
Edwards took snaps with the first unit and Ryan Fitzpatrick ran the second unit, with Brian Brohm taking the third string. This order comes as no surprise, but a lot can change during camp. It's a battle to keep an eye on.

Fri Jun 25 201012:33Gailey knows QB depth chart, but not telling
Coach Chan Gailey said Friday he already knows who will top the QB depth chart going into training camp, but he's keeping it to himself until late July.
"Well, it's still open," Gailey said of the QB derby. "Don't read too much into who takes the first snap and who takes the second snap and who takes the third snap. ... It's close." The three quarterbacks received equal reps throughout the offseason. The tea leaves suggest Trent Edwards will enter camp as the No. 1 QB, but it's anyone's guess at this point.

Wed Jun 23 201018:19Trent Edwards still running Bills' first team
Trent Edwards continues to take the majority of first-team reps at Bills offseason workouts.
Ryan Fitzpatrick continues to be second in line, with Brian Brohm and Levi Brown mostly buried on the third and fourth teams, respectively. It's not surprising that Edwards has an early lead because of his ideal size, solid all-around tools, and smarts. Just remember that this is non-contact work. Edwards has long been afraid of the pass rush, and he's not currently facing one.

Wed Jun 16 201014:46Bills to have two-deep QB chart by camp
Bills coach Chan Gailey plans to at least have a two-deep depth chart set at quarterback by the outset of training camp.
Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick appear to be the clubhouse leaders at this time. Brian Brohm has been working with the third team for the most part.

Sun Jun 6 201011:30Trent Edwards took the first-team reps
Updating a previous item, Trent Edwards -- not Brian Brohm -- took the first-team reps at Bills OTA practice on Saturday.
A Buffalo News blog post indicated Saturday that Brohm ran the first team, but a column Sunday morning says it was Edwards, and the blog post has since been corrected. At least for now, the Bills' quarterback competition seems to be coming down to Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Brohm is third in line.

Thu Jun 3 201008:43Gailey to hold off on QB decision until camp
Coach Chan Gailey is not expected to name even a frontrunner in the quarterback derby until training camp.
Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick have been first in line to go through practice drills, which would seem to indicate that Brian Brohm is a longshot. Reading the tea leaves in Buffalo, Edwards seems like the best candidate to start in Week 1.

Tue Jun 1 201017:18Trent Edwards taking on leadership role
Trent Edwards has begun taking on a leadership role this offseason, according to Bills RT Cornell Green.
Green isn't going to set the depth chart, but his comments suggest Edwards is still the favorite to open as the Bills' starter this year. Coach Chan Gailey won't be running a pass-heavy attack as much as a punt-heavy offense, which makes Edwards undraftable in standard leagues.

Tue May 25 201015:17Edwards ahead of Fitzpatrick, Brohm at OTAs
Trent Edwards took the first-team reps in all sessions at the opening of OTAs on Tuesday.
Ryan Fitzpatrick was second, Brian Brohm third, and rookie Levi Brown fourth. The competition at quarterback is open, so don't be surprised if coach Chan Gailey mixes up the order at some point. For now, it's safe to assume that Edwards is the early favorite to start in Week 1. H3 currently ranks last among all starting quarterbacks in our projections.

Thu May 6 201009:49Edwards doesn't look downfield
Just two of Trent Edwards' pass attempts last season traveled more than 40 yards in the air.
This confirms what we already knew -- Edwards is painful to watch. ESPN's Matt Williamson points out that C.J. Spiller has a chance to make some Edwards' checkdowns exciting, but we don't have high hopes. The Bills may be better off seeing what they have in Brian Brohm.

Thu Apr 29 201015:30Nix blames QB woes on line, coaching change
New Bills GM Buddy Nix blames last season's quarterback woes on the destablization of the offensive line and the pre-season offensive coordinator switch.
"The offensive coordinator getting fired two weeks before the season starts, your left tackle is cut with a week to go before the first game," said Nix. "It was formula for disaster and a lot of it (the quarterback) couldn't control, but it all happened. Everybody wants to put it on the quarterback and try to make a change." It should be noted that Nix has also neglected the tackle position this offseason. The QBs are being set up for failure again.

Sat Apr 24 201020:24Bills not expected to add a QB before camp
Coach Chan Gailey "all but confirmed" the Bills won't add another quarterback before training camp.
So the Bills have decided to punt the 2010 season? Interesting. Perhaps Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller can run a heavy Wildcat attack because we're gonna be sick if we have to watch Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick checking down for four quarters every week. Gailey will stage an open competition for the starting job, and the ultra-brittle Edwards has to be considered the heavy favorite. We're staying away from all Bills this year.
