Wed Nov 28 201215:17David Akers playing through injury
David Akers is dealing with an undisclosed injury, and is questionable for Week 13.
According to coach Jim Harbaugh, it's why the 49ers worked out free agents Nate Kaeding and Billy Cundiff on Tuesday. Akers converted just 1-of-3 field goals on the Superdome's artificial turf on Sunday, and is an unacceptable 19-of-27 on the season. He shouldn't be owned in fantasy leagues.

Wed Nov 14 201209:46David Akers struggling badly for Niners
David Akers is just 10-of-16 on field goals over his last seven games.
Akers' woes came to a head when he pulled a potential game-winning 41-yard field goal in Sunday's tie with the Rams. "I've not pin-pointed any reason there. I don't have indications that he's not confident," coach Jim Harbaugh said. Fantasy owners may want to look elsewhere until Akers gets his groove back.

Sun Aug 26 201221:19David Akers bangs home five field goals
David Akers went 5-for-5 on field goals in Sunday's third preseason game against the Broncos.
Akers set a franchise record for made field goals last season and is picking up right where he left off. Through three preseason games, he's 8-for-8. The Niners' red-zone struggles make Akers an elite fantasy kicking option.

Tue Dec 20 201108:48David Akers kicks way into record books
49ers K David Akers has set a single-season franchise record with 38 made field goals this season.
Akers is just two field goals away from tying Neil Rackers for the most ever in one season. He's clearly fantasy's No. 1 kicker, well ahead of Dan Bailey John Kasay. It's a tribute to both Akers and the 49ers' inept red-zone offense.

Mon Jul 25 201119:32David Akers is no longer transition tagged
Per the NFL's updated free agent release, David Akers is not listed as wearing a transition tag.
The Eagles transition tagged Akers prior to the lockout, but must have since informed the league that the tag no longer applies. Akers is now an unrestricted free agent available to the highest bidder. Rookie Alex Henery will be Philly's clear-cut starter, and projects as a top-ten fantasy kicker in year one.

Fri Jul 22 201112:32Akers a free agent under new CBA deal
Under the owners' proposed CBA, teams will not be able to use both the franchise tag and the transition tag in a given year.
The NFL is simply going back to pre-2010 rules. The Eagles applied the franchise tag to Michael Vick and the transition tag to David Akers, knowing one of them could be overturned under a new CBA. Vick will stay franchised, leaving Akers as a UFA. Rookie Alex Henery is expected to take over as Philly's kicker this season.

Mon May 16 201110:49Akers to stay in the NFC East?
David Akers could end up with the Cowboys or Redskins, suggests Mark Eckel of the Trenton Times.
Akers will become a free agent after his transition tag is rescinded. Graham Gano held the Redskins' job all of last season, but made just 24-of-35 field goals. And with the new kickoff rules, David Buehler's strong yet wild leg may be let go. Although Akers is 36, he remains one of the more consistent kickers in the game.

Mon May 2 201118:09Andy Reid refuses to discuss David Akers
Coach Andy Reid refused to discuss franchise player David Akers after the Eagles used a fourth-round pick on Alex Henery to replace him.
"I'm not going to get too much into David Akers," Reid told reporters Saturday. Akers, 36, would probably be the Eagles kicker for one more year had he signed his franchise tender before the lockout. In other words, he blew it.

Sat Apr 30 201120:37Akers could land back in the NFC East
Sports Illustrated's Don Banks believes free agent David Akers could wind up in Dallas or Washington.
The Eagles' long-time kicker was all but shoved out the door on Saturday when Philadelphia drafted Nebraska K Alex Henery at No. 120 overall, the earliest a kicker had been taken since 2006. Considering the problems the Cowboys and Redskins have both had with their kicking games of late, and their familiarity with Akers, they are two very distinct possibilities for landing spots.

Wed Mar 2 201109:27Akers won't sign $2.8M transition tender
The player rep for David Akers confirmed that the kicker will not sign his $2.8 million transition tender before the end of the league year Thursday.
Akers sees no benefit in signing the tag. He's holding out for a long-term deal or a run at the free agent market on the off chance that transition tags don't hold up under the next CBA. Chances are, he'll have no recourse but to sign the tender eventually.

Tue Feb 15 201111:38Agent disappointed Akers got transition tag
The agent for K David Akers expressed "surprise and disappointment" after the Eagles transition tagged his client Tuesday.
"We were very far apart on financial terms and structure," agent Jerrold Colton said. The transition tag would pay Akers a little over $2 million, but Colton is obviously upset that no long-term agreement has been reached.

Tue Feb 15 201109:07Eagles assign transition tag to Akers
Eagles assigned the transition tag to K David Akers.
The transition tag is rarely used because 1) the salary is guaranteed and 2) if another team tries signing Akers to an offer sheet, the Eagles get zero compensation if they fail to match. In this case, it's essentially a good-faith gesture with the Eagles promising Akers top-ten kicker money. Just keep in mind that all of the tags are likely to be contested by the NFLPA.
Wed Feb 2 201111:52Akers fine with Reid's post-game comments
Contrary to a previous report, impending free agent K David Akers takes no issue with coach Andy Reid's criticism for missing two key field goals in the Eagles' Wild Card round loss.
Akers also dismissed the notion that his misses had anything to do with the condition of his daughter, who was being tested for cancer. He now says he wants to "win a championship and to do it here in Philadelphia."

Sun Jan 30 201109:41Akers was dealing with crisis in playoff loss
It has been revealed that the "personal matter" K David Akers was dealing with during the Eagles' 21-16 Wild Card round loss to the Packers was a possible cancer diagnosis for his 6-year-old daughter Halley.
Akers, of course, missed two field-goal attempts that day, drawing the ire of head coach Andy Reid afterward. He found out the next day that Halley did indeed have cancer. Thankfully, she is believed to be cancer free after undergoing surgery. Akers says he was "deeply hurt" by Reid's comments, however, and believes his career in Philadelphia has likely come to an end. A five-time Pro Bowler, teams will be lining up to sign him this offseason.

Wed Jan 19 201108:25David Akers hopes to keep playing for Eagles
K David Akers, 36, wants to continue his career in 2011 and hopes to do it in Philadephia.
Akers led the NFL in points this season with 143, but he missed two costly kicks in the playoff loss to the Eagles, which led to critical comments from coach Andy Reid and clouded his future. We expect the two sides to ultimately work something out.

Mon Jan 10 201108:20Akers dealing with family issues
David Akers, who missed two field goals in Sunday's loss to the Packers, has been dealing with a family health concern.
Team leader Quintin Mikell tried to take Akers off the hook after the game. "He has some stuff going on. And for him to even be out here was big. He fought through a lot today and this week," Mikell said. Distractions or not, Akers now heads into free agency with a sour taste in his mouth.

Mon Jan 3 201108:57Akers wraps another big season
David Akers has made at least 32 field goals in three straight seasons.
Akers' career-high in field goals was 33, set in 2008. This year, his 32 were good for third in the league, trailing only Josh Brown and Sebastian Janikowski who made 33 each. Akers turned 36 last month but remains one of the game's premier kickers.

Mon Nov 22 201002:28K Akers drills 4 of 5 FGs in Week 11 victory
Eagles K David Akers made four of his five field goal attempts in a Week 11 victory over the Giants.
He also tacked on a PAT. Akers' lone miss was the result of a block by Terrelle Thomas, but remains a top-tier kicker playing for the Eagles' explosive offense. In spite of his productive Week 11, you might want to check the weather in the Windy City before starting Akers Week 12 against the Bears.
