Wed Sep 26 201209:25Bess, Hartline ahead of the pack
Offensive coordinator Mike Sherman said Davone Bess and Brian Hartline "have separated themselves" from the rest of the Dolphins' receivers.
On most teams, Bess and Hartline would be complementary depth. On the Dolphins, they are the go-to guys. Through three weeks, the pair is averaging a combined 125.3 yards per game and doesn't have a single touchdown. They face a red-hot Cardinals defense on Sunday.

Sat Aug 25 201200:00Bess leads Dolphins with 59 yards
Davone Bess led the Dolphins with 59 yards on four receptions against the Falcons in the third preseason games.
Ryan Tannehill's lone reliable receiver, Bess also tied TE Anthony Fasano for the team lead with six targets. While fellow starter Legedu Naanee (2 preseason catches) continues his disappearing act, Bess is the only Dolphins receiver worthy of a draft pick in fantasy leagues. Roberto Wallace has just one catch the past two weeks, and Brian Hartline (calf) has yet to see the field in August. The Dolphins passing game is a fantasy sinkhole.

Thu Aug 2 201214:16Davone Bess is receiving star of camp
Davone Bess has reportedly been the "receiving star of camp" over the first week.
We've seen this sentiment from beat writers, SI.com's Peter King and now Pro Football Focus. Keep in mind, however, that it doesn't take much to stand out among the Dolphins' suspect wide receiver corps. Bess owners should be pulling hard for David Garrard to win the starting job, as his production plummeted under Matt Moore last year.

Wed Apr 25 201210:52Bess' injuries didn't require surgery
Davone Bess did not require surgery for his second-degree MCL tear and partially torn ACL suffered in the season finale.
"Luckily, the ligaments were in the right place where they could heal by themselves," said Bess, "so I didn't have to have any surgery." The injury was more serious than injury reported, but Bess was already healthy and practicing on Tuesday. This should be a non-issue going forward.

Tue Apr 24 201219:26Dolphins WR Bess had partially torn ACL, MCL
Dolphins WR Davone Bess revealed Tuesday that he suffered a partially torn ACL in addition to a sprained MCL in the 2011 season finale.
We knew about the MCL, but this is the first leak on the ACL. Bess spent the early offseason rehabbing in Florida. The good news is that he was able to participate in Tuesday's minicamp practice, so he should be full-go by training camp. Bess is the favorite to lead the team in receptions following Brandon Marshall's exit.

Sat Dec 24 201118:53Davone Bess gets a touchdown in win
Davone Bess caught three passes for 39 yards in the Dolphins' Week 16 loss to the Patriots.
Coming off a zero-catch day, Bess saw extra snaps today as the Dolphins went pass-heavy against the Patriots' secondary. He ended up with five targets. The 39 yards are Bess' most since Week 8.

Sun Dec 4 201117:32Davone Bess finds the end zone on drag route
Davone Bess caught a 12-yard touchdown pass on a drag route in Sunday's win over the Raiders, and finished the day with four receptions for 27 yards.
Bess saw a team-high seven targets when Matt Moore threw the ball just 25 times, but recent history says not to get excited. Bess has totaled just nine catches for 91 yards and a touchdown in his last four games, and needs to show us more before we raise an eyebrow.

Thu Nov 24 201120:00Bess finishes Week 12 with 29 yards
Davone Bess caught two passes for 29 yards in the Dolphins' Week 12 loss to the Cowboys.
Lined up in the slot, Bess darted deep down the middle and made a spectacular, one-handed catch for a gain of 24 in the fourth quarter. Otherwise, he was a non-factor with Brandon Marshall and Brian Hartline playing bigger roles. Bess has one game over 50 yards in his last eight. The Dolphins' slot receiver is waiver-wire material in 10- and 12-team fantasy leagues.

Sun Nov 13 201116:27Davone Bess quiet once again
Davone Bess caught four passes for 37 yards in Sunday's loss to the Redskins.
Bess did see six targets, but we know he only goes underneath as part of his slot role. Bess hasn't topped 52 receiving yards in a game since Week 1. Even in PPR leagues, he's just waiver-wire fodder.

Sun Nov 6 201116:23Davone Bess doesn't produce in Week 9
Davone Bess caught one pass for a gain of zero in the Dolphins' Week 9 win over Kansas City.
He came off the bench behind Brian Hartline (0 catches) and was targeted three times. Brandon Marshall dominated Matt Moore's targets with 11, and no one else saw more than three. Bess has been highly inconsistent this year, both in terms of playing time and production. Now on pace for just 646 yards on 56 catches, Bess won't be a fantasy option against the Redskins in Week 10.

Sun Oct 30 201117:23Davone Bess catches three balls in loss
Davone Bess caught three balls for 43 yards in Sunday's loss to the Giants.
Bess' best play came on a broken one. Matt Moore escaped trouble and threw off balance to a wide-open Bess for a 24-yard gain on a key third down. Other than that, Bess was quiet once again. Through seven games, he is averaging just 3.8 catches for 46.1 yards with no touchdowns. There's no upside here with Moore struggling.

Sun Oct 23 201117:45Davone Bess catches 7 balls in Week 7
Davone Bess caught seven passes for 52 yards in the Dolphins' Week 7 loss to the Broncos.
With Champ Bailey draped all over Brandon Marshall, Bess stepped up for his most productive game of the season, thanks in large part to a team-high 12 targets. Bess is only a low-end WR3 going forward in such a low-scoring offense.

Tue Oct 18 201100:01Bess catches just two balls for 21 yards
Davone Bess caught just two balls for 21 yards in Week 6's Monday night game against the Jets.
Matt Moore completed just 47 percent of his passes and was awful tonight, and Bess now has two-straight 21-yard performances under his belt. It was hard to imagine the drop-off from Chad Henne to Moore being a huge downgrade, but at least for tonight against a solid Jets pass defense it was a deal-killer for Bess. You can do better things with your roster spot.

Sun Oct 2 201120:02Davone Bess catches just three balls
Davone Bess caught three passes for 21 yards in Sunday's loss to the Chargers.
Bess' best play came on a quick-hitter in the slot that went for 12 yards. He heads into the bye on pace for just 60 catches, which would be his lowest mark since his rookie year. Only desperate PPR owners should hold Bess through the bye.

Sun Sep 25 201116:39Bess gets five catches in loss
Davone Bess caught five passes for 52 yards in Sunday's loss to the Browns.
Bess looked quick out of the slot, catching most of his passes just behind the linebackers and taking them for first downs. He piled up a team-high nine targets as Brandon Marshall was limited by Joe Haden. Bess remains a low-end PPR option heading into next week's game against the Chargers.

Tue Sep 13 201100:49Bess reels in five catch for 92 yards
Davone Bess caught five passes for 92 yards in Week 1 against the Patriots.
He had a 7-yard touchdown reception overturned after he came up a yard short, but was relatively quiet for a majority of the game. Bess was third on the team with seven targets, behind Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush. It's only one game, but it's clear Bush's presence is going to take away some check-down looks from Bess. Still, he's a low upside WR3/4 in PPR leagues.

Tue Sep 6 201110:49Bess still the No. 2 target in MIA
Davone Bess remains the Dolphins' No. 2 target in the passing game.
Bess has had an extremely quiet preseason, catching nine balls for 76 yards in three exhibition appearances. But even though Brian Hartline will start opposite Brandon Marshall, Bess remains the slot receiver and will see his fair share of targets. Bess caught 79 balls a year ago, a number he can reach again despite Reggie Bush's arrival.

Thu Aug 11 201108:09Bess to retain punt return gig
Davone Bess is expected to remain the Dolphins' primary punt returner.
Coach Tony Sparano confirmed that Reggie Bush will only be used as a situational returner, if at all. That means Bess, who ranked eighth in punt return average last season, maintains his status as an asset in return yardage leagues. He's still a good bet for 70-plus catches out of the slot.

Fri May 27 201114:38Davone Bess digging ditches, chopping trees
Davone Bess is spending the lockout digging ditches and chopping trees in Costa Rica as part of a Global Volunteers crusade.
"If I can help someone make a difference and impact someone's life I want to do that to the best of my ability," he said. Bess finished the 2010 season with career highs in catches (79), yards (820), YPR (10.4), and touchdowns (5). He was the 35th ranked fantasy receiver. Bess doesn't have much upside, but should continue to flirt with low-end WR3/WR4 value in PPR leagues.
