Sun Jan 2 201118:10Davone Bess catches Week 17 touchdown
Davone Bess caught three passes for 35 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' Week 17 loss to the Patriots.
Bess finishes another efficient season with career highs in receptions (79), yards (820), and touchdowns (five), as well as yards-per-catch average (10.4). While Bess is never going to be a dynamic outside wideout, he'll have a major role in the Dolphins' offense as a slot receiver regardless of the team's next offensive coordinator. Bess is under contract through 2013.
Sun Dec 26 201017:14Bess has five catches, score in loss
Davone Bess caught five balls for 34 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' Week 16 loss to the Lions.
He also averaged an impressive 12 yards on four punt returns. Bess' 13-yard score seemed like a back breaker for Detroit at the end of the first half, but Jim Schwartz's team came back to win it with lots of help from two fourth-quarter picks by Chad Henne. Bess has already equaled his career high with 76 catches. He won't struggle to break it in Week 17 at New England.
Sun Dec 19 201017:11Davone Bess has nine catches as Fins fall
Davone Bess caught nine balls for 78 yards in the Dolphins' Week 15 loss to the Bills.
The catches were a season high, and Bess' 78 yards were his most since Week 12 (and fourth most on the season). A valuable slot receiver, Bess lacks playmaking ability to be more than a WR3 in PPR leagues. Consider him just that heading into a Week 16 home date with the Lions.
Sun Dec 12 201020:05Bess lands on Revis Island
Davone Bess caught just one pass for six yards in Sunday's win over the Jets.
Bess was dominated by Darrelle Revis and Chad Henne was dominated by the Jets. Add that up and you get this kind of statline from Bess. However, with Brian Hartline (finger) done for the year, Bess should have no problem bouncing back. He'll be a deep PPR option against the Bills' banged up secondary next week.
Sun Dec 12 201009:22Darrelle Revis to play on Davone Bess
According to Jets beat writer Manish Mehta, CB Darrelle Revis is expected to play across from Dolphins WR Davone Bess.
Bess was expected to square off against the more physical Antonio Cromartie, but will now take on Revis, who has a knack for shutting down opposing receivers. With Brandon Marshall back, Bess is no more than a low-end option in PPR leagues.

Sun Nov 28 201021:18WR Bess returns to fantasy relevance Week 12
Dolphins WR Davone Bess caught six balls on a team-high nine targets for 111 yards in the Dolphins' Week 12 victory at Oakland. He also returned three punts for 60 yards.
A native of the Bay Area, Bess wowed his hometown fans with a 47-yard punt return, and all six of his catches resulted in first downs. With Chad Henne back under center, Bess is a more reliable fantasy receiver, but his success may not continue once Brandon Marshall returns from an injured hamstring.
Fri Nov 19 201000:02Davone Bess tallies just one reception
Davone Bess managed just one reception for nine yards against the Bears in Week 11.
The verdict is in, and Tyler Thigpen is a value-killer for Bess. The first-down machine was targeted five times, including one pass high and inside that nearly got Bess killed by safety Danieal Manning. It's safe to cut Bess in all non-PPR leagues going forward. His value peaked a month ago.
Sun Oct 31 201017:43Davone Bess racks up seven recepitons
Davone Bess led the Dolphins with seven receptions for 53 yards against the Bengals in Week 8.
A typical Bess performance in his first official start for Brian Hartline. He led the way with nine targets, though he was unable to do anything after the catch this week. Bess remains a much better option in PPR leagues going into next week's game at Baltimore.
Sun Oct 31 201011:59Bess starting over Hartline in Week 8
Davone Bess is starting over Brian Hartline at Cincinnati in Week 8.
Beat writer Omar Kelly issues a fantasy alert with the information, but Bess has been playing more snaps of late anyway. He's a legit WR3 this week with the Bengals' secondary decimated.

Sun Oct 24 201017:13Bess gets 66 yards and another TD
Davone Bess caught six passes for 66 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's loss to the Steelers.
Bess now has a touchdown in three straight games after catching two in 16 games last season. He's really improved after the catch, as shown by his physical 26-yard touchdown in the second quarter today. Consider Bess more than just a mere PPR option at this point -- he's a playmaker and one of the best slot receivers in the game.
Sun Oct 17 201020:23Fins extend slot receiver Bess for two years
Dolphins signed WR Davone Bess to a two-year extension through 2012.
Financials aren't available yet, but FOX Sports' Jay Glazer relays that it's "a big deal for a slot receiver." The sure-handed Bess is on pace to set career highs in receptions (86), yards (893), and touchdowns (6.4) this season, benefiting from double teams on the outside drawn by Brandon Marshall. Best is also the Fins' primary punt returner. He was still playing on his rookie deal, signed in April of 2008 after Bess went undrafted.

Sat Oct 16 201011:21Dolphins likely to stick with current WR corp
Dolphins beat writer Omar Kelly does not believe the team is looking to trade for or sign a wide receiver to start across from Brandon Marshall.
Rightfully so, as Davone Bess is doing his best Wes Welker impression and Brian Hartline continues to grow. Kelly speculates that the team could look for a kick returner, as they rank just 22nd in the NFL in average yards per kick return.

Tue Oct 5 201019:16Welker likes what he sees in Bess
Wes Welker noted that Dolphins WR Davone Bess is the closest player in the NFL to his own style of play.
Beat writer Ian Rapoport let loose with the Welker nugget after SI.com's Peter King made a ridiculous comparison between Bess and Miles Austin. We assume King is merely predicting an Austin-like breakout seasons because Bess' game bears no resemblance to Austin's playmaking ability. Bess is certainly capable of hauling in 85+ receptions this season, but he's not going to be more than a WR3 in standard scoring leagues.

Tue Oct 5 201000:28Bess has monster game, TD and nine catches
Davone Bess had nine receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 loss to the Patriots.
It's the second big week in a row for the former Hawaii star. Bess was targeted a team high 12 times, and flashed playmaker ability throughout the night. He had five first down catches in the first quarter alone, and served as Chad Henne's security blanket throughout the night. He's a nice player in PPR leagues, and will be a hot waiver wire pickup in all formats. Those looking to pick him up should note he has a Week 5 bye.
Mon Sep 27 201000:17Bess has 86 yards versus Jets
Davone Bess had six receptions for 86 yards in the Week 3 loss to the Jets.
Bess was targeted seven times, while Brandon Marshall was targeted 17 times and Brian Hartline 11 times. He is the safer bet in PPR leagues, but Bess falls short of Hartline when it comes to potential upside.
Sun Sep 19 201016:52WR Davone Bess recorded just one catch for 12 yards in Dolphins'...
WR Davone Bess recorded just one catch for 12 yards in the Dolphins' Week 2 victory over the Vikings.
Miami employed a ground attack, as the Wildcat was heavily featured in Sunday's game at the Metrodome. Given that Miami's strength is in the run game, and that Brandon Marshall will likely dominate passing targets moving forward, Bess is little more than waiver wire fodder at this stage of the season.
Sun Sep 12 201017:40Bess hauls in six passes in Week 1
Davone Bess caught six passes for 51 yards against the Bills in Week 1.
A typical game for Bess, getting open underneath but doing little with the ball in his hands after the catch. Bess is easily a better use of a roster spot than Brain Hartline (0 receptions) in both PPR and standard scoring leagues.
Mon Aug 2 201011:57Bess working as No. 1 slot receiver
Davone Bess is working as the No. 1 slot receiver in Dolphins camp.
It's where Bess should be. He doesn't have the size or the playmaking ability to play outside opposite Brandon Marshall, but his hands and short-area quickness are perfect inside. Greg Camarillo is running as the No. 2 slot receiver with Brian Hartline starting outside.

Sat May 29 201015:06Sparano: 'Next best guy' to start at No. 2 WR
Coach Tony Sparano indicated that the "next best guy" will line up opposite Brandon Marshall this season.
Davone Bess has been working primarily out of the slot in offseason practices, but the Dolphins don't use a ton of three-wide looks. Presumably, if Bess outplays Brian Hartline and Greg Camarillo, he will earn the No. 2 job. The three will likely split targets throughout the year, making all of them poor bets for fantasy value.

Mon May 10 201015:35Davone Bess unsure of role in 2010 offense
The Dolphins have yet to inform Davone Bess of his role for the 2010 season.
"I don't know," he said. "That's the thing about this coaching staff. We just do what we're asked, and the rest will take care of itself." Following the addition of Brandon Marshall, Miami may use more three-receiver looks. Bess would likely stay in the slot, with Greg Camarillo and Brian Hartline competing at flanker. The Fins will likely throw the ball more in 2010.
