Sat Jan 11 2014 | 08:36 | Marlins unlikely to bring back Chris Coghlan |
Joe Frisaro of MLB.com believes that it's unlikely the Marlins bring back free agent outfielder Chris Coghlan. |
The 28-year-old and former Rookie of the Year seems unlikely to take a minor league deal, and the Marlins appear to already have an excess of outfield options headed to spring training. The market hasn't been very demanding for Coghlan, so even if it's not with the Fish, he may have to settle for a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. |

Mon Sep 9 2013 | 22:30 | Chris Coghlan goes 4-for-4 |
Chris Coghlan went 4-for-4 from the leadoff spot for the Marlins on Monday. |
Coghlan's audition at third base might be over -- he's made his last two starts in right field in Giancarlo Stanton's place -- but it looks like he'll be in the lineup somewhere the rest of the way. That gives him some value in NL-only leagues. Of course, tonight's 4-for-4 came with no runs scored, RBI or steals. |

Sun Sep 1 2013 | 07:19 | Marlins activate Chris Coghlan from DL |
Marlins activated OF Chris Coghlan from the 15-day disabled list. |
Coghlan has been sidelined since early June due to calf inflammation and nerve irritation in his back. The former NL Rookie of the Year played nearly exclusively at third base during his minor league rehab assignment, and could get work at multiple positions with the Marlins. He's worth a look in most NL-only formats. |

Tue Aug 13 2013 | 21:48 | Chris Coghlan to play 3B on rehab assignment |
Chris Coghlan (back) will play third base when he begins a rehab assignment with High-A Jupiter Wednesday. |
Coghlan hasn't played the position regularly since 2009 in the minors, but the Marlins have more of a need there than in the outfield. "We'll start his progression and see how he does," manager Mike Redmond said. "We talked about it as an organization and tried to figure out not only where he would fit, but where he could get the playing time." The Fish are hoping to get Coghlan back around September 1. |

Chris Coghlan (back) has been cleared to resume baseball activities. |
While that's good news, Marlins manager Mike Redmond said that it will likely still be a while before Coghlan is cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment. The 28-year-old has been sidelined for over a month with nerve irritation in his back and calf inflammation. |

Tue May 28 2013 | 22:46 | Chris Coghlan homers in loss Tuesday |
Chris Coghlan had a two-RBI triple and a solo homer in Tuesday's loss to the Rays. |
It's quite embarrassing that Coghlan, a .239/.307/.352 hitter since 2010 coming into the night, was batting in the No. 5 spot, but it certainly worked in this one. The outfielder has seen more playing time of late and is now batting .364 over his last 10 games. |

Wed May 8 2013 | 01:19 | Chris Coghlan plays second base |
After Chris Valaika got hurt, Chris Coghlan made his first appearance at second base since 2010 on Tuesday. |
This would be more notable if Coghlan weren't hitting .185 with one RBI in 54 at-bats for the season. He's lucky he still has a roster spot at this point. |

Chris Coghlan hit a walkoff RBI single in the Marlins' defeat of the Phillies on Saturday in Miami. |
Coghlan smacked a hard grounder past Phillies second baseman Chase Utley to drive in the winning run. He will get the bulk of playing time in center field while Justin Ruggiano is sidelined but holds little fantasy value. Coghlan is a .270/.339/.394 career hitter in the majors. |

Sun Mar 31 2013 | 11:12 | Coghlan, Ruggiano to platoon in CF for Fish |
The Marlins will use Chris Coghlan and Justin Ruggiano in a platoon in center field at the start of the season. |
That's bad news for Ruggiano's fantasy owners, as he'll be on the short side of the platoon. Coghlan has done very little for the Marlins since winning NL Rookie of the Year honors back in 2009, but the Marlins will give him a shot after he batted .306/.338/.468 with a homer and seven RBI this spring. He's hitting second in the Marlins' Opening Day lineup. |

Sun Mar 10 2013 | 16:18 | Chris Coghlan goes 3-for-4 for Marlins |
Chris Coghlan is 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI against the Braves on Sunday. |
Coghlan is a big long shot to overtake Justin Ruggiano for a spot in the Opening Day lineup, but he could be kept as a bench player after spending most of last year in Triple-A. The 2009 NL Rookie of the Year is hitting .344 in 32 at-bats this spring. |
