Sun Jul 24 201118:03Geovany Soto has three-hit day
Geovany Soto stayed hot on Sunday, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Chicago's 5-4, 10-inning win over the Astros.
Soto is now batting .308 in July after entering the month with just a .224 average. If a frustrated owner dropped him at the peak of his struggles in your mixed league, now would be the time to take a flier.

Sat Jul 23 201116:01Soto homers in win over Astros
Geovany Soto was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and an RBI single in Saturday's win over the Astros.
The home run was his ninth of the season and his first since June 30. While Soto has been a legitimate disappointment this season, he's batting .321 (9-for-28) since the All-Star break. The window to buy low is quickly closing.

Thu Jul 14 201123:38Geovany Soto goes 4-for-4
Geovany Soto went 4-for-4 at the plate in Thursday's loss to the Marlins.
He had three singles and a double, which was one of just two extra-base hits the Cubs had on the night. After having a big series against the Nationals, Soto then went hitless while striking out in five of seven at-bats against the Pirates going into the break, so it's nice to see him get his second half going the right way. He sports a .241/.332/.417 batting line for the season.

Pinch-hitter Geovany Soto delivered a three-run blast in the bottom of the 13th to give the Cubs a 5-2 win over the Giants on Thursday.
The Giants took a 2-1 lead on Pablo Sandoval's homer in the top of the 13th, but Darwin Barney tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning and Soto won it by taking Ramon Ramirez deep. It was his first career pinch-hit homer.

Sun Jun 26 201117:46Soto has huge day, but Cubs lose
Geovany Soto went 3-for-3 with a home run, double and two RBI in Chicago's loss to the Royals on Sunday.
Soto has now homered in back-to-back games for the first time all season. Although he's hitting just .225 through 182 at-bats, Soto is still a recommended flier if he's been dropped by a frustrated owner.

Fri Jun 10 201100:37Geovany Soto hits clutch homer
Geovany Soto came up clutch for the Cubs Thursday, belting a game-tying solo homer off Phillies closer Ryan Madson in the ninth inning in the extra innings win.
Soto also doubled earlier in the game. It's his first multi-hit game and RBI since being activated from the disabled list late last month and just his second multi-hit showing since April 20. Soto is still batting a lowly .221 with four homers and 13 RBI in 136 at-bats this season.

Thu May 12 201109:41Cubs optimistic on Geovany Soto
The Cubs are optimistic that Geovany Soto (groin) will require only the minimum amount of time on the disabled list.
``I'm committed to getting better as fast as I can to come back and help the club,'' said Soto, who added that the MRI on his groin could have been worse. He'll go to the team's spring training facility to rehab before rejoining them at the end of the month.

Sun May 1 201119:52Soto picks up two RBI in loss
Geovany Soto went 2-for-3 with two RBI in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks.
Soto had just five RBI in all of April, so his two-run double in the seventh inning today is encouraging. We still think he's a good bet to reach 15-20 homers and get his average around .260, so buying low is a quality option here.

Thu Mar 17 201119:17Soto collects first homer of the spring
Geovany Soto went 1-for-3 against the A's on Thursday, hitting his first home run of the spring.
Chicago's slugging backstop is hitting .281 this spring, but has picked up just two RBI through 32 at-bats. Already one of the game's top offensive catchers, Soto could vault himself into the category of "truly elite" if he can inch his .890 2010 OPS above .900 this season.

Fri Mar 11 201117:46Soto picks up first spring RBI
Geovany Soto went 2-for-3 against the White Sox on Friday, picking up his first RBI of the spring.
Chicago's slugging catcher has yet to homer this spring, but should remain a great source of power behind the plate in 2011. His .497 slugging percentage would have led all catchers in 2010, but his 387 plate appearances were not enough to qualify as a league leader.

Fri Feb 25 201111:31Soto says shoulder is 100-percent healthy
Geovany Soto said his surgically-repaired shoulder is 100-percent healthy.
"I feel better than when I was 19," Soto said. Soto underwent season-ending surgery on his right shoulder in mid-September. The catcher posted a .280/.393/.497 batting line to go along with 17 homers last season. He should be one of the top catchers off fantasy boards in upcoming drafts.

Fri Jan 14 201119:02Cubs, Soto avoid arbitration
The Cubs and C Geovany Soto avoided arbitration Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $3 million contract.
Soto had a nice bounce-back season in 2010, producing an .890 OPS that was higher than his OPS during his NL Rookie of the Year season in 2008. Injuries limited him to just 322 at-bats, though, and his season ended early with shoulder surgery. He's expected to be ready for the start of spring training.
Thu Sep 23 201011:25Soto expects to be ready by spring of 2011
Geovany Soto (shoulder) said Wednesday that he fully expects to be ready for the start of spring training next season.
Soto underwent season-ending surgery on his right shoulder earlier this week. "I feel right now no doubt I'm going to be 100 percent by spring training and before that, too," he said. "We're not going to pace ourselves 'til spring training. I'm going to try to get ready as soon as possible." The catcher posted a strong .280/.393/.497 batting line and 17 homers this season.

Tue Sep 21 201020:25Cubs place Soto (shoulder) on 15-day DL
Cubs placed C Geovany Soto on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to September 19, recovering from right shoulder surgery.
Soto underwent season-ending right shoulder surgery Monday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. While it was a disappointing end for him, the 26-year-old backstop rebounded in a big way this season by batting .280/.393/.497 with 17 homers and 53 RBI. Assuming he suffers no setbacks in his recovery, Soto should be one of the top catchers off the board next season.

Soto is expected to spend the next three months in recovery mode but should be fine for the start of spring training next season. He turned in a solid .280/.393/.497 batting line, 17 homers and 53 RBI in 322 at-bats this year, bouncing back nicely from a brutal sophomore campaign in 2009.
