Wed Sep 14 202211:34Nathan Eovaldi Throws Live Batting Practice
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) threw three innings of live batting practice at Fenway Park on Tuesday, which likely puts him in line to make a minor league rehab start next, perhaps as soon as this weekend. "Everything feels good. I feel ready to go," Eovaldi said. "This time, we're just trying to make sure we don't skip these steps and we dot our I's and cross our T's." The 32-year-old hard-throwing right-hander is nearing a return to Boston's starting rotation, but he's quickly running out of time to make a difference for his fantasy managers down the stretch. In 18 starts for the BoSox this year, Eovaldi is 5-3 with a 4.15 ERA (4.50 FIP), a 1.26 WHIP and a 96:18 K:BB in 99 2/3 innings thrown.

Tue Sep 6 202211:16Nathan Eovaldi To Throw A Bullpen This Week
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) threw a bullpen session on Sept. 2, and the plan is for him to repeat the exercise at some point during a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays on either Tuesday or Wednesday. Boston thinks Eovaldi will pitch again this year, but manager Alex Cora said Eovaldi will need to go on a minor league rehab assignment first. The 32-year-old isn't progressing as quickly as the team had hoped when he initially landed on the injured list, but it looks like they'll get him back at some point this month. That won't help fantasy managers all that much, though, with time running out in the final month of the regular season. In 18 starts this year, Eovaldi has gone 5-3 with a 4.15 ERA (4.50 FIP), a 1.26 WHIP, 96 K's and 18 walks in 99 2/3 innings.

Thu Sep 1 202216:47Nathan Eovaldi Not Progressing As Quickly
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) threw a couple days ago, but he isn't progressing as quickly as the team had hoped. Eovaldi tossed a bullpen session on Monday and was preparing to face live hitters next, but the team will pump the brakes on that for now. The 32-year-old is running out of time to make much more of an impact for his fantasy managers, but there's still a little bit more time for him to be able to return down the stretch. In 18 starts for the BoSox in 2022, he's gone 5-3 with a 4.15 ERA (4.51 FIP), 1.26 WHIP, 96 strikeouts and 18 walks in 99 2/3 innings pitched. Fantasy managers should keep him stashed for now.

Tue Aug 30 202221:58Nathan Eovaldi Throws Bullpen Session Monday
Boston Red Sox pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) threw another bullpen session Monday. He reportedly felt good after Monday's session and has thrown back-to-back successful bullpens. The 32-year-old has been sidelined since August 23 with shoulder inflammation. He will continue his throwing program this week and could begin a rehab assignment soon. The right-hander owns a 4.15 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 96 strikeouts in 99 2/3 innings over 18 starts. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Eovaldi in all league formats.

Sat Aug 27 202211:24Nathan Eovaldi Throws Bullpen Session Friday
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session at Fenway Park on Friday. He was placed on the 15-day injured list on Aug. 23 with right shoulder inflammation after being scratched from his start on Aug. 18 with a sore trapezius muscle. Eovaldi last pitched on Aug. 12 against the New York Yankees, giving up two runs over six innings. The 32-year-old right-hander will likely throw another side session in the coming days, and skipper Alex Cora would like Eovaldi to make one minor league rehab start before he rejoins the starting rotation. Barring a setback, it looks like fantasy managers will get Eovaldi back sooner than later. He's gone 5-3 on the year with a 4.15 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 96 strikeouts in 99 2/3 innings over 18 starts.

Thu Aug 25 202218:27Nathan Eovaldi Resumes Throwing
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) played catch on Wednesday and Thursday and might throw off a mound on Friday. He's progressing well since being placed on the injured list on Tuesday. The 32-year-old right-hander is recovering from right shoulder inflammation, which has kept him sidelined since Aug. 12. As of right now, it looks possible that he could return when eligible next weekend. Rookie Brayan Bello is filling Eovaldi's rotation spot for the time being. In 18 starts in 2022, Eovaldi has gone 5-3 with a 4.15 ERA (4.51 FIP), 1.26 WHIP, 96 strikeouts and 18 walks in 99 2/3 innings pitched. He should be stashed in the vast majority of fantasy leagues for the stretch run.

Tue Aug 23 202215:00Red Sox Place Nathan Eovaldi On 15-Day Injured List
The Boston Red Sox placed starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) on the 15-day injured with right shoulder inflammation. The move was made retroactive to August 19. Eovaldi had previously started 18 games for Boston this season, throwing 99.2 innings and working to a 4.15 ERA and a 4.50 FIP while striking out 96 batters and allowing 18 walks. What's more, he has five pitcher wins in those 18 starts. Boston also placed first baseman Eric Hosmer on the 10-day injured list and recalled right-hander Josh Wincokowski and first baseman and outfielder Francy Cordero from Triple-A.

Sun Aug 21 202216:40Nathan Eovaldi Won't Start On Tuesday
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (neck) won't make his scheduled start against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. The right-hander is reportedly not responding to treatment on his neck and shoulder soreness. He was scratched ahead of his start on Thursday and clearly isn't ready to pitch yet. There is a chance that Eovaldi lands on the injured list. The organization has not announced a starter for Tuesday, but it sounds like Eovaldi won't be taking the mound yet.

Thu Aug 18 202211:17Nathan Eovaldi Scratched, Josh Winckowski To Start
Boston Red Sox right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (neck, shoulder) has been scratched from his scheduled start on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to soreness in his neck and shoulder. In his place, rookie right-hander Josh Winckowski will get the start. Eovaldi still thinks he can pitch, so the injury doesn't appear to be very serious, but the Red Sox won't take any chances. The 32-year-old has been solid in his 18 starts for Boston in 2022, going 5-3 with a 4.15 ERA (4.50 FIP), 1.26 WHIP, 96 strikeouts and 18 walks in 99 2/3 innings pitched. Consider him day-to-day for now. Winckowski has gone 5-5 with a 4.69 ERA, a 1.49 WHIP and a 34:20 K:BB in 55 2/3 innings over 11 starts. He'll be in the streaming conversation on Thursday against the Bucs.

Sat Jul 30 202221:29J.D. Martinez, Nathan Eovaldi, Christian Vazquez Could Be Traded
Boston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez, catcher Christian Vazquez, and pitcher Nathan Eovaldi could be moved by the trade deadline. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Martinez, Vazquez, and Eovaldi are all free agents to be and among the candidates to be traded. It remains to be seen where they will be traded; with Boston at a 50-52 record, the Red Sox will likely be sellers at the deadline. Martinez and Vasquez shouldn't take much of a hit in fantasy if moved, while Eovaldi could earn chances for more wins by moving to a playoff contender. Stay tuned.

Fri Jul 22 202209:05Nathan Eovaldi Set To Take The Mound On Friday
Boston Red Sox right-hander Nathan Eovaldi will be on the mound when the team begins the second half of its 2022 season against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. Eovaldi recently missed over a month of action due to lower back and hip injuries. He returned just before the All-Star break, but only lasted 4 1/3 innings in his first start back. The 32-year-old has had a solid year overall. Across 13 starts, he's gone 4-2 with a 3.34 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP.

Sun Jul 10 202218:37Nathan Eovaldi Could Return On Friday
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (back) has a chance of returning from the injured list on Friday, according to manager Alex Cora. The 32-year-old has been sidelined since June 12 due to back inflammation. Eovaldi looked fine during his rehab start on Sunday, so that's good news for fantasy managers. It sounds like Eovaldi could return for Friday's game against the New York Yankees. However, Eovaldi would likely have a pitch count during his first game back. This wouldn't be an ideal matchup for Eovaldi against the Yankees tough lineup.

Thu Jul 7 202216:42Nathan Eovaldi Set For Rehab Outing Sunday
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (back) is set to make his first rehab appearance at Triple-A Worcester on Sunday. He is expected to throw three innings in the outing. Eovaldi has been on the injured list with lower back inflammation since June 12. It's unclear how many rehab outings he'll need prior to being activated from the injured list, but he's clearly trending in the right direction. Seeing him back in the rotation right after the All-Star break isn't out of the question. The 32-year-old has made 12 starts this year and he's gone 4-2 with a 3.16 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP.

Fri Jul 1 202216:15Nathan Eovaldi, Garrett Whitlock To Throw Bullpens Saturday
Boston Red Sox right-handers Nathan Eovaldi (back) and Garrett Whitlock (hip) are both scheduled to throw bullpen sessions on Saturday. It will be Eovaldi's first time throwing off a mound since he landed on the injured list almost three weeks ago with lower back inflammation. He might need a couple bullpen or live batting practice sessions before going on a minor league rehab assignment, so he's unlikely to return before the All-Star break. Whitlock is ahead of Eovaldi in his quest to return, but the Red Sox are leaning toward using him out of the bullpen once he's reinstated from the injured list. The 26-year-old made his first four appearances in relief for the Red Sox this year, but he'll lose plenty of fantasy value if he's not in the starting rotation.

Thu Jun 9 202211:35Nathan Eovaldi Dealing With Hip Tightness
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (hip) has been dealing with right hip tightness that may have contributed to his reduced velocity during his outing against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, where his average fastball velocity of 94 mph was the slowest in a start since 2012. Eovaldi still tossed five scoreless innings while striking out five and walking none, and manager Alex Cora doesn't think he'll need to miss his next start after an off day next Monday. His fastball averaged 96.7 mph in his last 11 starts. The 32-year-old got 14 swings and misses on Wednesday, but just one with his four-seamer. Eovaldi has been good this year with a 3.41 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings pitched over 11 starts, but his hip tightness will be something to watch heading into his next outing.

Sat May 28 202218:52Nathan Eovaldi Throws Complete Game Saturday
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi was terrific on Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles, throwing the first complete game of his career. Eovaldi allowed two earned runs, seven hits, and one walk while striking out six on 108 pitches. While the results were there, Eovaldi did allow 13 balls hit over 100 mph. Almost all of these were hit into the ground, with the righty piling up 14 ground balls outs. If Eovaldi can keep the ball on the ground, the results will be there. He comes out of this start with a 3.77 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 59 strikeouts over 57 innings pitched. He should remain a decent option this season, although he is prone to blow-ups at times.

Wed May 18 202200:30Nathan Eovaldi Cannot Escape Second Inning Tuesday
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi turned in a very poor start in Tuesday's 13-4 loss to the Astros. Eovaldi lasted just 1 2/3 innings, allowing nine runs (six earned) on eight hits (including five home runs) and no walks with no strikeouts. This was certainly a start to forget for Eovaldi and fantasy managers but appears to be just a bad outlier, as he had a strong 3.15 ERA over sever starts coming into this one. He will look to get back on track in his next start in a decent matchup against the Mariners at home.

Sat Apr 30 202222:56Nathan Eovaldi Dominates In No Decision Saturday
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi was solid on the mound once again against the Baltimore Orioles Saturday evening. He shut them out for seven innings but didn't get much support from his offense and didn't factor into the decision of the 2-1 loss. Across the seven innings, Eovaldi had eight strikeouts, didn't walk a battler, and allowed just three hits. The right-hander has continued the success he had in 2021, posting a 2.51 ERA with 32 strikeouts and a 0.94 WHIP over 28.2 innings pitched. Eovaldi has been an underrated hurler in fantasy baseball the past few seasons and can provide value in all five categories. He'll look to keep the momentum going in his next start, that should come against the Chicago White Sox.

Thu Apr 14 202214:27Red Sox Haven't Discussed Extension With Nathan Eovaldi
The Boston Red Sox haven't engaged in contract-extension conversations with starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi and his representatives, according to a source. Eovaldi will be eligible for free agency after the 2022 season. However, there is an expectation that the team and agents Sam and Seth Levinson could engage in contract talks after this season. Eovaldi doesn't want to discuss any contract matters during the season. The right-hander would currently be considered one of the top starting pitchers on the free-agent market if he gets there, with Sean Manaea, Noah Syndergaard and Mike Clevinger being the other big names. The 32-year-old has become Boston's ace after going 11-9 with a 3.75 ERA last year.

Fri Apr 8 202222:03Nathan Eovaldi Strikes Out Seven In 2022 Debut
Boston Red Sox right-hander Nathan Eovaldi allowed three runs over five innings in a 6-5 loss to the New York Yankees on Opening Day. Eovaldi struck out seven and walked one in the 11-inning loss to New York. The veteran hurler tossed 76 pitches, 56 of which went for strikes in his 2022 debut. Two of the three runs Eovaldi allowed came via the long ball as Anthony Rizzo hit a solo shot in the first inning and Giancarlo Stanton added a solo homer of his own in the fourth. Eovaldi will be back on the mound on Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers.
