Thu Sep 9 201010:48White Sox activate Putz from DL
White Sox activated RHP J.J. Putz from the 15-day disabled list.
He was cleared to return after throwing in a series of bullpen sessions over the past week. Putz has been on the disabled list since August 25 due to patella tendinitis in his right knee. He returns to a 2.68 ERA and 55/11 K/BB ratio over 47 innings this season.
Sat Sep 4 201014:10Putz to return on Thursday when eligible
J.J. Putz (knee) expects to return from the disabled list on September 9 when eligible.
The reliever threw a "fairly aggressive bullpen" session on Friday and felt "really good." Putz said that he probably didn't even need to go on the DL but knew that the Sox couldn't afford to keep him on the roster if he couldn't pitch for a few days because they were already without Matt Thornton. With Thornton already back and Putz due back soon, the Sox' bullpen will receive a major shot in the arm.

Wed Aug 25 201014:07Sox place JJ Putz (knee) on the DL
White Sox placed J.J. Putz on the 15-day disabled list with a sore knee.
With Matt Thornton also headed to the DL, this makes Bobby Jenks a suddenly safe closer in the pale hose pen. An MRI already showed that Putz has no structural damage in the knee, but it has been bothering him and the team needs all hands on deck in that AL Central race.
Tue Aug 24 201023:38Putz (knee) expected to be placed on DL
J.J. Putz (knee) is expected to be placed on the disabled list.
Putz left Tuesday's game against the Orioles after throwing just three pitches in the ninth inning. He underwent an MRI on Monday which revealed no structural damage in the knee, but it's safe to say he returned much too soon. Despite the win Tuesday, it couldn't have come at a worse time for the White Sox, who are trying to make up ground in the AL Central race. Be sure to pick up Bobby Jenks if he was dropped by an impatient owner.

Tue Aug 24 201023:04Putz exits Tuesday's game with knee injury
J.J. Putz left Tuesday's game against the Orioles after aggravating his left knee.
Putz was only able to throw three pitches before being replaced by Bobby Jenks. An MRI on Monday showed no structural damage in the knee, however it's obvious something just isn't quite right here. Don't be surprised if he needs a few days to rest, or perhaps even a DL stint in order to heal.

Mon Aug 23 201023:08MRI on Putz's knee comes back clean
J.J. Putz underwent an MRI on his left knee Monday which showed no structural damage.
Good news. Putz was removed from last Thursday's game due to inflammation in his left knee. Monday's MRI didn't show anything beyond the soreness, so consider him day-to-day right now.

Sun Aug 22 201004:17White Sox's Putz picks up win in relief
J.J. Putz blew a save in the ninth, but picked up a win in the 10th as the White Sox beat the Royals 7-6 in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.
Yuniesky Betancourt tried to play the hero again, singling in the tying run of Putz in the bottom of the ninth. However, the Royals couldn't win it then, and Juan Pierre came up with an RBI double in the top of the 10th. Given another chance, Putz shut the door for his sixth win.

Fri Aug 20 201022:02Putz (knee) may be available Saturday
J.J. Putz (knee) expects to be available to pitch as early as Saturday.
Putz was diagnosed with patella inflammation in his right knee after leaving Thursday's game. He was optimistic about his chances of pitching Saturday after playing catch Friday. "Life is good," said Putz. Doesn't sound like anything to worry about right now.

Thu Aug 19 201023:08Putz has knee inflammation, day-to-day
J.J. Putz has been diagnosed with inflammation in his left knee.
Better than it could have been. Putz is being called "day-to-day" for now and appears likely to avoid the disabled list. He has a 2.64 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 44 1/3 innings of relief this year for the White Sox. Bobby Jenks, if there was still a question, is back in the closer's role.

Sat Aug 14 201022:12Putz blows save, White Sox fall to Tigers
J.J. Putz surrendered two earned runs in the ninth inning of Saturday's loss to the White Sox, earning his second blown save.
Putz was getting a rare save opportunity with Bobby Jenks sidelined by a back injury, and he completely failed. The setup man entered with a 2-1 lead, allowed a hit, then allowed a two-run Alex Avila homer. Next time White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen is likely to go with Matt Thornton in a save chance.
Sat Aug 7 201022:35Putz collects third save with perfect ninth
J.J. Putz collected his third save of the season Saturday with a perfect ninth inning against the Orioles.
Bobby Jenks is still the closer in Chicago and was only getting the night off, but Putz and fellow setup man Matt Thornton would be fine replacements. Putz has a 1.74 ERA and 0.82 WHIP in 41 1/3 innings this season and is worth keeping an eye on in all mixed leagues.
Thu Jul 29 201023:48Putz's scoreless streak comes to an end
J.J. Putz allowed two runs in one relief inning Thursday.
Unbelievably, the two runs were the first the reliever had allowed since May 7, a streak that spanned 27 innings. Putz's ERA jumped to a still-outstanding 1.85, while his WHIP sits at 0.82 and his K/9 at 10.2. He's done enough this season that he should be able to land a closing gig for 2011.
Sun Jun 20 201016:18Putz collects save in win over Nationals
J.J. Putz pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the Nationals on Sunday to protect a 6-3 lead and secure a save.
Bobby Jenks pitched on both Thursday and Friday, but each outing was for just one inning and he had yesterday off. Putz was called on anyway, with Matt Thornton throwing a scoreless eighth. Putz was awful with the Mets last season, but he's bounced back with a 32/4 K/BB and 2.19 ERA. He's just as good of a choice for closing duties as Matt Thornton should something happen to Jenks, but unless there's an undisclosed injury Jenks has a firm hold on the ninth.
