Carlos Quentin (knee) is back in Wednesday's lineup.
Quentin sat out Tuesday's game with continued discomfort in his surgically-repaired knee. It's going to be a challenge for him to hold up for the entire season, though seeing some time at DH during interleague play should be beneficial.

Carlos Quentin (knee) is not in the Padres' lineup Tuesday.
Quentin is dealing with more soreness in his surgically-repaired knee. He's expected to be available off the bench before returning to the lineup Wednesday, but there's no guarantee that the knee will be close to 100 percent anytime soon. Quentin is likely to be used in the DH spot for upcoming interleague series against the Rays and Orioles.

Sun May 5 201300:38Carlos Quentin goes hitless in loss
Carlos Quentin, playing on a sore knee, went 0-for-2 with a walk before coming out of Saturday's loss to the Diamondbacks.
Forget the $27 million; the Padres would be better off right now if Quentin was gone and Kyle Blanks was playing regularly in left field. A healthy Quentin is a nice hitter, but he's still a dreadful hitter and it's not like he's ever healthy enough to make a real difference. The Padres should seriously consider DLing him until he's closer to 100 percent.

Wed May 1 201300:35Quentin drives in three as Padres defeat Cubs
Carlos Quentin went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the Padres' 13-7 win over the Cubs on Tuesday.
Quentin also doubled twice and scored three runs. The outfielder has good power but his inability to stay healthy -- or on the field in general -- has always limited his upside. There are better plays in most mixed leagues.

Quentin, of course, missed the last eight games after he charged the mound when he was hit by a pitch by Dodgers' right-hander Zack Greinke on April 11. Carlos Quentin is eligible to return from his eight-game suspension Tuesday night against the Brewers.

The veteran outfielder used his time away from the Padres to work on his swing and strengthen his knees.

Carlos Quentin has dropped the appeal of his eight-game suspension and will begin serving it on Sunday.
Major League Baseball was hearing the appeal, but Quentin has decided to drop it and go ahead and serve it now. The odds are good that they would have reduced it by one game, at most, anyway. Quentin will now miss the three-game series with the Dodgers that begins on Monday.

Sun Apr 14 201309:54Quentin's appeal ruling could come Sunday
The ruling on Carlos Quentin's appeal of his eight-game suspension could come on Sunday.
It's no surprise that Major League Baseball would prefer a quick ruling with the Padres slated to begin a series against the Dodgers on Monday. Quentin was given the day off Saturday after going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Friday. "Carlos has a lot going on right now," Padres manager Bud Black said. "His at-bats weren't great (Friday)."

Fri Apr 12 201300:35Quentin ejected following brawl
Carlos Quentin was ejected from Thursday's game against the Dodgers following a benches-clearing brawl.
Quentin charged the mound after he was hit by a pitch from Zack Greinke in the bottom of the sixth inning. While it was a 2-1 game at the time, he obviously thought that the pitch was intentional. Or perhaps he was reacting emotionally after he left Tuesday's game when he was hit by a pitch just above his wrist. Either way, he's likely looking at a suspension.
