Nelson moved to the bench for Friday's game against the Nets and was able to contribute 11 points (1-3 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 2-3 FT), three rebounds, and eight assists in just 17 minutes.
Nelson managed to put up some impressive numbers in just 17 minutes of action. It still seems unclear who Brad Stevens will implement as his starting point guard moving forward, whether it's Nelson or rookie Marcus Smart, and only time will tell since each player has respectively started once during their two games together. Smart seems to be the point guard of the future, although Nelson is a solid veteran who can help the Celtics win right now, as evidenced by his efficiency Friday.

Nelson recorded 9 points, 11 assists and 4 steals in 30 minutes of play Tuesday night, his first start for the Celtics.
It was a nice return home to Orlando for Nelson, who played his first ten NBA seasons for the Magic. Nelson got the start over rookie Marcus Smart. Expect the two to juggle starts as the Celtics try to showcase Nelson before the February 19 trade deadline. Smart is also still gradually recovering from his ankle and achilles injuries.

Nelson will get the start Tuesday against the Magic.
Marcus Smart will move to a bench role for now, as the coach Brad Stevens likely wants to make the rookie earn the starting job. Nelson is a capable NBA starter with a relatively high floor and a low ceiling, while Smart is just the opposite.

Nelson will make his debut for the Celtics on Sunday Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports
Boston in clearly in rebuilding mode after trading away its best player for some draft picks and veterans, including Nelson. With that in mind, it would not be a surprise to see Nelson as the clear number two point guard to young rookie Marcus Smart. Smart has had trouble staying healthy though, so Nelson does have some value since he's one injury away from being usable.

Nelson was one of three players traded to the Celtics on Thursday as part of the deal that sent Rajon Rondo to the Mavericks, Yahoo! Sports reports.
Nelson had been seeing around 25 minutes per game with the Mavericks, but despite the downgrade in team context, there's no guarantee the rebuilding Celtics will be as willing to hand the aging guard as much playing time. With Rondo out of the picture, rookie first-rounder Marcus Smart will presumably get the first crack at assuming point guard duties for the Celtics, likely relegating Nelson to a backup role. Even so, Smart is still working his way back from an Achilles injury and could be eased back into action, potentially allowing Nelson to act as a short-term placeholder in the starting lineup. Nelson was averaging 7.3 points and 4.7 rebounds across 23 games with the Mavericks.
Sat Dec 13 201413:39Jameer Nelson: (Shoulder) To Play Saturday
Nelson (shoulder) will play Saturday, Mavs.com's Earl Sneed reports.
Look for Nelson to get the start after missing one game with an ailing shoulder. The duo of Nelson and Devin Harris has been effective for Dallas this season, but it limits both players' fantasy value as they are somewhat interchangeable.

Nelson (shoulder) is considered questionable for Saturday's game against the Warriors, Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com reports.
Nelson has already missed one game with his shoulder injury and will see how Saturday's morning shootaround goes before making a decision about Saturday night. If he's unable to play, the duo of J.J. Barea and Devin Harris will likely absorb Nelson's minutes.

Nelson's sore shoulder prevented him from playing Wednesday, but head coach Rick Carlisle did not seem overly concerned about Nelson's health, so he should have a chance to play in the Mavericks' next game Saturday.
Wed Dec 10 201419:21Jameer Nelson: (Shoulder) Out Wednesday
Nelson (shoulder) has been ruled out Wednesday, Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News reports.
He last missed time with a back injury, so this might be something new. It's not clear how serious the injury is, but for now, consider him day-to-day. Look for Devin Harris to start in Nelson's place.

Nelson recorded 18 points (6-9 FG, 4-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes during the Mavericks' 114-105 loss versus the Grizzlies on Tuesday.
Nelson had another solid showing following his several game absence with back spasms, and if Monta Ellis' elbow injury lingers Nelson could be forced to shoulder a larger load offensively. Still, with Devin Harris and J.J. Barea playing well and Raymond Felton (ankle) set to return eventually, Nelson's value is likely to be capped unless the Mavericks get hit by serious injuries.

Nelson was in action for only 16 minutes against the Bucks, scoring only 2 points (1-3 FG, 0-2 FT), adding one rebound and five assists.
Part of the reason why Nelson's minutes were so low is because of his back injury, but also because the Mavericks had such a balanced game. Monitor how much minutes he gets over the next few games to gauge his value as a starter, but also understand that he is still their best option at point guard. Despite his back injury, any reduction in minutes for Nelson will result in split minutes between J.J. Barea and Devin Harris.

Nelson scored a season-high 13 points Wednesday in a win over Milwaukee. He added four rebounds and three assists.

Nelson had missed three straight games nursing a lower back injury but resumed his spot in the starting lineup. He continues to split time with Devin Harris and JJ Barea.
Tue Dec 2 201413:10Nelson (back) will play Tuesday against Bulls
Nelson (back) will play Tuesday against the Bulls, Earl Sneed of Mavs.com reports.
Nelson, who's missed three games with back soreness, was considered probable to play as of Monday, and after going through shootaround, he's been cleared to return. Expect Nelson, who's started all 15 games in which he's played, to slice into Devin Harris and J.J. Barea's respective workloads.

Nelson (back) is considered probable for Tuesday's matchup with Chicago, Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Nelson has missed the last three games with back soreness but appears close to surmounting the issue. Should he return Tuesday, both Devin Harris and J.J. Barea could see mild reductions in playing time.

Sat Nov 29 201413:13Nelson (back) questionable to play Saturday against 76ers
Nelson (back) is questionable to play Saturday against the 76ers, Earl Sneed of Mavs.com reports.
Back spasms kept Nelson out of the team's last two games, and there's a chance he could miss a third. Regardless, Dallas will be cautious with his minutes, so Devin Harris, who played 33 minutes Friday, will likely be in for increased playing time again.
Fri Nov 28 201412:30Jameer Nelson: (Back) Will Not Play Friday
Nelson (back) will not play Friday against the Raptors, Chuck Cooperstein of 103.3 FM ESPN Radio reports.
This will be the second-straight game that Nelson will miss with back spasms. As a result, Devin Harris will likely assume the spot in the starting five in place of Nelson during his absence.
Thu Nov 27 201415:52Nelson (back spasms) questionable for Friday's game against Rapt...
Nelson (back spasms) is questionable for Friday's game against the Raptors, the Dallas Morning News reports.
The back issue forced Nelson out of Wednesday's game against the Knicks, but his questionable listing would seem to suggest a long-term absence isn't in store just yet. The Mavericks should have more information on Nelson's status following Friday's morning shootaround. Devin Harris, who logged 40 minutes in place of Nelson against the Knicks, would likely be tabbed for the start again if Nelson is unable to go.
Wed Nov 26 201418:01Jameer Nelson: (Back Spasms) Out Wednesday
Nelson is dealing with back spasms and will not play Wednesday, Mavs.com's Earl K. Sneed reports.
There was no word of back trouble with Nelson in previous days, and this should open up a lot of minutes for Devin Harris and J.J. Barea, as Raymond Felton is also out Wednesday.
