Tue Jan 10 201202:18Daye (ankle) returns to action on Monday
Austin Daye (ankle) returned from a one-game absence on Monday, playing 12 minutes with two points on 1-of-4 shooting with one rebound and no other stats.
Daye has gone from being an underrated player with promise to being an overrated player squandering his ability. Like most things, the truth is somewhere in the middle, but in this case the truth is that he should be ignored until he gives a reason to talk about him.

Mon Jan 9 201213:21Daye (ankle) game-time decision vs. Bulls
Austin Daye (ankle) is a game-time decision vs. the Bulls on Monday.
We've noted that Daye's PER is among the lowest in the entire NBA, and he's not doing anything to warrant having on your roster, let alone starting.

Sat Jan 7 201219:30Austin Daye out Saturday w/ sore ankle
Austin Daye (ankle) will not play for the Pistons on Saturday.
Daye has an unbelievably bad PER (Player Efficiency Rating) of -4.5, ranking him dead-last in the NBA. Needless to say, he's not a fantasy asset at present, and has little upside as long as Tayshaun Prince and Jonas Jerebko are both healthy.

Fri Jan 6 201223:51Daye starts and survies ankle scare Friday
Austin Daye started at shooting guard for Ben Gordon (personal) on Friday, and finished with four points on 2-of-11 shooting with two rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block after surviving an ankle scare just before halftime.
The ankle injury had nothing to do with his shooting line on the surface, with seven misses occurring before he appeared to hurt it. We'd call this a disappointing audition for Daye, who deserves to stay on wires for the likely chance he's buried when the team is at full strength.

Fri Jan 6 201220:37Daye suffers ankle injury, could return
Austin Daye suffered an ankle injury that left him hobbled heading into halftime on Friday, but appears to be okay and is available to return.
Things were looking bad for the Pistons after Daye and Brandan Knight both went down with ankle injuries, but it appears they're both okay. We'll monitor the situation and let you know how it goes.

Fri Jan 6 201212:31Austin Daye to start for Pistons on Friday
Austin Daye will start in place of Ben Gordon (personal) on Friday.
Daye's playing time has been inconsistent at best, and he's seen a steadily decreased role since opening night. Averaging just 2.2 points and 2.4 rebounds in 10 minutes of play this year, Daye has a chance to prove that he should be a more prominent part of the rotation.

Sat Dec 31 201101:52Daye shows up in box score on Friday
Austin Daye scored 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting (no threes) with five rebounds and no other statistics in 16 minutes off the bench on Friday.
It's something, but then again it's not much when you consider his minute total and lack of versatility in this line. We'll let you know if he can somehow crack the log-jam at his positions in Detroit.

Wed Dec 28 201123:12Austin Daye fails to hit a shot...again
Austin Daye had another disaster on Wednesday, missing all five of his shots and failing to score for the second straight game.
His confidence appears to be very shaky right now and Tayshaun Prince is locked into the starting five. We still think Daye will get it turned around at some point, but cutting him for a hot free agent makes sense right now.

Fri Dec 16 201122:44Daye leads Pistons with 18 points, 5 blocks
Austin Daye came off the bench to lead the Pistons with 18 points, and added six rebounds, five blocks and three 3-pointers in the loss to Cleveland.
He was up and down tonight, and Tayshaun Prince sat this one out, but Daye is going to have value even if playing behind Prince. Ben Gordon started at SG and added 17 points, six boards and two threes, and could be set for a comeback season. Rookie Brandon Knight added nine points and four dimes off the bench, but looked pretty good in doing so.

Tue Sep 27 201107:23Daye wants to improve field goal percentage
Austin Daye wants to improve his field goal percentage this season.
Daye is expected to take on a big role with the re-building Pistons, so it's nice to hear that he has the desire to get better. "My rookie year I shot a better percentage from (two-point range) than I did my sophomore year, so I didn't like that at all," Daye said. "I've been focused in on that this summer." Daye shot 46.4% in his rookie season but just 41% during his sophomore campaign. He'll have to be better than that for Detroit if he's going to be trusted in an increased role.

Fri Sep 23 201106:34Daye signs with Russian team Khimki Moscow
Austin Daye has signed a two-month contract with Russian team Khimki Moscow according to Russian agent Obrad Fimic.
The deal includes an opt-out clause, and when Daye returns to Detroit his fantasy value will be tied to Tayshaun Prince's free agency. Having shown flashes of versatility in the past, he'll be somebody to watch whenever basketball resumes.

Wed Sep 21 201117:54Austin Daye signs two-month deal in Russia
Pistons forward Austin Daye has signed a two-month contract with an as-yet-unnamed team in Russia.
Daye can even opt-out prior to the deal's conclusion in December, if the NBA lockout is quickly resolved. This is a clever deal that enables Daye to stay in shape, improve his game and bring home a paycheck -- all with minimal risk. Kudos to him and his agent, Rob Pelinka.

Sat Aug 27 201110:22Austin Daye considering playing overseas
Pistons forward Austin Daye said on Friday that he is considering playing overseas during the lockout.
Add Daye to a lengthy list of NBA players eager to earn a paycheck during the lockout. He is under contract through at least 2012-13, however, which would require an 'NBA-out' clause and therefore makes him less appealing to teams abroad. In just 20 minutes per game last season, Daye averaged 7.5 points, 1.0 threes (40% from downtown), 3.8 rebounds, 0.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks.

Thu Jul 14 201110:26Daye looking forward to no Kuester
Austin Daye admitted that a new coaching regime "might be beneficial for me."
Like most of the Pistons, Daye clashed with ex-coach John Kuester last season. He was asked to play power forward at the beginning of the year despite being listed at 205 pounds, then his confidence fell off as the minutes plunged. If free agent Tayshaun Prince walks, Daye would be a favorite to start at small forward under the new coach.

Mon May 9 201111:37Austin Daye looking to bulk up for Pistons
Austin Daye is looking to add more muscle this offseason.
Daye is just 22 years old, but at almost seven feet tall and barely over 200 lbs, the Pistons would like to see Daye put on some much-needed bulk as he enters his third professional season. Any added muscle would be a benefit for the slender baller, as he'll likely battle Jonas Jerebko for the starting small forward spot next season.

Thu Apr 14 201111:30Daye is Prince's replacement?
The Detroit Free Press suggests that Austin Daye will replace impending free agent Tayshaun Prince.
It's too early to try to figure out the Pistons' starting five for next year, especially with John Kuester not fired yet. But Daye certainly looks like the heir apparent to Prince despite a disappointing second season. Note that Daye started 16 games this year, but averaged just 11.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 treys in those contests.

Tue Apr 5 201123:04Daye plays point forward on Tuesday
Austin Daye played some point forward in Tuesday's game, and finished with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting (including two threes) with six rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 24 minutes.
You wouldn't know he handled the ball by his assist total, but either way Daye is going to be worth watching if the Pistons (finally) go young. As of right now, he's a below-average play.

Sat Mar 26 201102:12Daye posts decent line off the bench
Austin Daye scored 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting (including a three) with seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals in 28 minutes off the bench on Friday.
We're nearing the time when it would make sense to play the young guys, so a line like this perks our interest. He needs to do it at least one more time before we're jumping on the #FreeAustinDaye train, however.

Sat Mar 19 201101:13Daye starts for Hamilton Friday
Austin Daye started at shooting guard on Friday in place of Rip Hamilton, who was out for the funeral of his grandfather.
Daye had 11 points, two steals and a block on 3-of-9 shooting, and while he'll emerge again at some point and have some fantasy value, he's too unpredictable to use at this point.
