Wed Aug 7 2013 | 16:48 | Wolves support decision to send Shabazz home |
Timberwolves president Flip Saunders said he fully supports the NBA's decision to send Shabazz Muhammad home from the league's Rookie Transition Program. |
Muhammad was also fined for the violation, which stemmed from the first-round pick having a female guest in his hotel room. This isn't exactly the way Muhammad wanted to start your NBA career, especially considering the character concerns surrounding the UCLA product before the draft. It should be noted Mario Chalmers was also involved in a similar incident and it seems to have served as a wake-up call for him. |

Wed Aug 7 2013 | 13:38 | Muhammad sent home from NBA rookie program |
Shabazz Muhammad was sent home from the NBA's Rookie Transition Program after violating a rule by bringing a female guest to his hotel room. |
Muhammad, who was also fined, will have to return next summer to complete the program. There were some character concerns surrounding the UCLA product leading up to the draft, and this incident will only add to those. Mario Chalmers was involved in a similar episode in 2008 and has prospered in the NBA, so this can serve as a wake-up call. |

Wed Jul 17 2013 | 11:48 | Muhammad, Dieng not guaranteed playing time |
Shabazz Muhammad and Gorgui Dieng won't be guaranteed minutes in the Wolves' regular season rotation, according to team president Flip Saunders. |
"We're not counting on rookies," Saunders said. "We'll let them develop at their own pace. If they happen to improve enough to play for us, so be it. If they don't, we're just going to let that situation develop." Muhammad has been particularly disappointing at Summer League and he'll need to convince Rick Adelman that he can defend his position, rebound, and move the ball (he had 27 total assists in 32 college games). |

Sat Jul 13 2013 | 22:44 | Shabazz Muhammad eases into Summer League |
Shabazz Muhammad scored seven points in his Summer League debut, adding one rebound, one assist, three turnovers and four fouls in 25 minutes. |
Shabazz signed his rookie contract on Saturday, then quickly added himself to the list of rookies who flopped in their first Summer League game. He played aggressively, however, while shooting 1-of-3 from downtown, and we expect him to bounce back vs. the Suns on Monday. |

The Jazz drafted Muahammad with the 14th overall pick but dealt him to the Wolves as part of a deal for No. 9 choice Trey Burke. Muhammad never lived up to the hype at UCLA and is expected to come off the bench in Minnesota. Muhammad recently admitted his father, who drew a lot of criticism for his handling of his son, is no longer part of his "basketball life." |

Shabazz Muhammad says his father is not part of his "basketball life" anymore. |
Muhammad's father gained a lot of notoriety for all the wrong reasons while Shabazz was at UCLA, including serving as something of a manager/handler during his much-criticized recruiting process. Muhammad said his father is now just like any other dad and isn't involved in making any basketball decisions for him. "I still love the guy. I talk to him about basketball and life. But he doesn't really come around with basketball anymore," Muhammad said. "I think that's the appropriate thing to do. It's really helping me out a lot." |
