Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum made history by breaking Anthony Davis's record for most points in an All-Star game en route to being named the 2023 NBA All-Star Game MVP. Thu Feb 16 202311:07Jayson Tatum Records 38 Points In Return Against Detroit
Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum dropped a game-high 38 points in Wednesday night's 127-109 blowout win over the Detroit Pistons. Tatum returned to the starting lineup after missing Tuesday's meeting against the Milwaukee Bucks due to an illness. He logged 38 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in 34 minutes, all while shooting 15-for-24 from the field. The return of Tatum sent Sam Hauser back to the bench and decreased the value of Hauser and Grant Williams as streaming options. Still, Derrick White, who is available in 32.6 percent of ESPN leagues, should be considered a must-add waiver addition as he recorded a solid line of 11 points, four rebounds, six assists, two steals and one block in 27 minutes.

Tue Feb 14 202314:24Jayson Tatum Ruled Out On Tuesday Against Milwaukee
Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum (illness) will not play on Tuesday against the Milwaukee Bucks due to a non-COVID illness. This could result in an interesting shake-up in the Eastern Conference standings as the Bucks sit just one and a half games back from the Celtics for the first seed. Since Jaylen Brown (face) and Marcus Smart (ankle) are also sidelined, Derrick White, Malcolm Brogdon, and Grant Williams will likely all see big minutes and could be solid streaming options.

Fri Feb 10 202313:152023 NBA Trade Deadline Breakdown - Fantasy Basketball Impacts
The NBA trade deadline has officially come and gone and we had one of the most active deadlines in recent memory with some big stars being dealt. Kyrie, KD, and Westbrook are all heading to new teams and we have been covering those trades and their fantasy impacts here at RotoBaller. But there were plenty of other lesser-known players who were dealt in the last few days and I wanted to go through and make sure we don't overlook some of these trades as some of those deals may even have more fantasy impact than the big moves. So here are some other trades that went down and my two cents on the increase or decrease in value that we should expect from the players involved for the remainder of the 2022-2023 fantasy basketball season.

Moves That Matter

These are very much in order of how much they matter. Let's start with the Spurs sending their starting center back up North where he started his career.Jakob Poeltl to the RaptorsI am a huge Poeltl fan and was close to acquiring him on multiple teams before the deadline. It was a curious move by Toronto to be buyers instead of sellers at the deadline, but Poeltl gives them the presence at the five they have been lacking all season and allows Siakam to shift over and play PF where he belongs.Poeltl is no longer a shutdown candidate and has legit top-50 upside with his multi-category abilities. His departure also makes ... [More]
Thu Feb 9 202323:29Kevin Durant Traded to Suns - Fantasy Basketball Impact
As hectic as this year's NBA trade deadline has been, with 28 out of the 30 teams making at least one trade, early Thursday morning at 1:00 am, a blockbuster trade went down that not many expected. However, if you had read my previous article, you could have gotten a glimpse of the future thanks to my magic ball, as the first "potential trade" I wrote about was sending Kevin Durant to none other than the Pheonix Suns.Kevin Durant is undeniably a top-three player and arguably even the best in the NBA right now. It's not surprising to hear how stunned the NBA world was after seeing this trade, as the Suns sold a huge chunk of their future for the Nets superstar but were somehow saved from involving Deandre Ayton in the trade!Any average NBA fan knows how much of an impact future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant has on any team, but to emphasize just how much, check this out: The Suns went from odds of +1800 of winning the finals to +450 on Thursday morning after the huge trade, now only behind the Boston Celtics, who lead the race with their odds being +350.

Kevin Durant's Season Recap

Durant (knee) has been sidelined for over a month after getting hurt on January 8 against the Miami Heat and remains without a timetable to return to make his debut with the Suns. Before getting hurt, the 13-time All-Star was averaging 29.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 0.8 steals, 1.8 blocks, and 36 minutes in 39 appearances this season.
Thu Feb 9 202321:39Jayson Tatum Could Miss Friday's Game
Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum (illness) is considered questionable for Friday's game against the Charlotte Hornets. The superstar forward has been added to the injury report due to a non-COVID related illness. This is not good news for the Celtics who are already without Jaylen Brown (face) and Marcus Smart (ankle) for Friday's game. Malcolm Brogdon should see a significant boost in value with Brown and Smart both sidelined. Grant Williams and Payton Pritchard would likely be asked to step up and play bigger roles if Tatum is unable to play. Fantasy managers will have to check back on Friday for another update on Tatum.

Tue Feb 7 202308:37Jayson Tatum Scores 34 Points After Rough Start
Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum made only three of his 13 shots in the first half against Detroit on Monday, but he still finished a 111-99 win with a game-high 34 points. It was a true game of two halves for Tatum as he went 8-for-11 from the field after the break. His work for the night included a 3-for-9 effort from deep, 11 rebounds, six assists and one block. Tatum has now tallied at least 30 points in five of his past six games and the run also includes four double-doubles. It's been a big year for the Celtics star, and he will look to continue it Wednesday against the Sixers in a matchup where Tatum notched 35 points when these teams met for the first time this season.

Kyrie Irving's Season Recap

Irving got suspended for an antisemitic social media post, keeping him out of the lineup for eight games. But since then, the 30-year-old stayed out of the limelight, so most had assumed he finally turned things around. He's played well all season, averaging 27.1 points, 5.3 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.0 steals in 40 appearances.https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1622324668047794177?s=20&t=NTffJ2tRvNpjAA7bddjYHQHe was also selected to the All-Star team for the eighth time in his career. Sun Jan 22 202323:08Jayson Tatum Off The Injury Report
Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum (wrist) is off the injury report, suggesting he'll suit up against the Orlando Magic on Monday. The MVP candidate didn't play on Saturday in the win over the Toronto Raptors, allowing Jaylen Brown to log a team-high 27 points. The Celtics won't have Marcus Smart (ankle) and Malcolm Brogdon (personal), meaning Tatum will likely get all the minutes he can handle. That said, he's a must-start in all fantasy formats, although everyone knows that.

Marcus Smart Injury Update

The Celtics were without Jayson Tatum for Saturday's meeting with Toronto, as the MVP candidate got the day off to deal with wrist soreness. Luckily, the C's recently got Jaylen Brown back from a three-game layoff, so the team at least had its No. 2 scoring option. Boston also had Marcus Smart, who is proficient on both ends of the floor.Unfortunately, the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year's evening didn't last long, as he exited in the first half after suffering a sprained right ankle. Smart has battled ankle injuries throughout his career, so fantasy managers are familiar with this.https://twitter.com/ChrisForsberg_/status/1616933981362028546?s=20&t=ADA6dM_t2muMcgq6cJRitwWhile X-ray results were encouraging, revealing no structural damage, he'll likely miss a game or two, possibly more. Sat Jan 21 202300:29Jayson Tatum Won't Play On Saturday
Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum (wrist) is out for Saturday's meeting against the Raptors. Tatum had a big game during the overtime win over Golden State on Thursday, finishing with 34 points and 19 rebounds. He also played 48 minutes, so his absence is likely for a much-needed night off. Fantasy managers may see Tatum back for Monday's game in Orlando, assuming his wrist soreness resolves by then. But in the meantime, Malcolm Brogdon or Derrick White could move into the starting rotation versus Toronto. However, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart should do most of the heavy lifting on the offensive end.

Sun Jan 8 202307:52Jayson Tatum Leads Boston To Victory With 34 Points
Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum had a game-high 34 points in Saturday's 121-116 road win over San Antonio. The injury-depleted Spurs pushed Boston hard, but Tatum did just enough to get his team the win. He shot 13-for-26 in the game and Tatum's final make from the field came with 33 seconds left in regulation when he broke a 116-116 tie with a jump shot. In 36 minutes of action, Tatum went 5-for-10 with the three-ball and had four rebounds and two assists. The 24-year-old star now has 20 30-point efforts for the campaign and seven of them have come in his past 11 appearances. His most recent efforts also include his second career triple-double, so Tatum has entered 2023 in superb form and should continue to perform well for managers.
