Thu Mar 9 202312:00Carlos Rodon Won't Start Season On Time
New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon (forearm) is dealing with a mild forearm strain and won't throw for the next seven to 10 days, according to general manager Brian Cashman. Rodon will not be ready for the start of the 2023 regular season and will begin on the injured list. It's not what the Yankees had in mind when they signed him to a six-year, $162 million deal in free agency, but at least the 30-year-old southpaw's injury is considered mild, so hopefully he doesn't miss too much time in the season's first month. With Frankie Montas (shoulder) set to miss at least half the season, New York's rotation is looking shaky before the season has even started. The injuries to Rodon and Montas should assure that Clarke Schmidt opens the year in the starting rotation.

Thu Dec 15 202220:09Carlos Rodon Lands Six-Year Deal From Yankees
The New York Yankees agreed to a six-year, $162 million deal with free-agent left-hander Carlos Rodon on Thursday. The deal include a full no-trade clause. Even after adding starters Sean Manaea and Ross Stripling, the Giants reportedly were still trying to re-sign Rodon. However, the Yankees always seemed like the favorites to land the back-to-back All-Star southpaw to upgrade the top of their rotation next to Gerrit Cole. The 30-year-old struggled with injuries and poor control before the 2021 season with the Chicago White Sox. In the last two years with Chicago and San Fran, Rodon has gone 27-13 with a 2.67 ERA (2.42 FIP), a 0.99 WHIP, a 33.9 percent strikeout rate and a 7.1 percent walk rate in 310 2/3 innings over 55 starts. The American League East and Yankee Stadium will present challenges, but Rodon has become a fantasy ace.

Wed Dec 14 202200:27Yankees, Carlos Rodon Face Sizable Offer Gap
The New York Yankees made an official offer to free-agent starting pitcher Carlos Rodon on Tuesday, and there is reportedly a "sizeable gap" between the two parties, per NY Post's Jon Heyman. While Rodon remains the Yankees' top priority, the 30-year-old lefty is reportedly seeking a seven-plus-year deal worth at least $30 million a year. If true, this would be quite a large asking price for a pitcher who has never thrown 200 innings in a season, and prior to 2022, had not pitched more than 150 innings since 2016. Rodon was excellent in 2022 with the Giants, going 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 33.4% strikeout rate in 31 starts and 178 innings. He will be a higher-end fantasy option, regardless of where he lands.

Tue Dec 13 202220:35Giants Still In On Carlos Rodon
It sounds as if the San Francisco Giants are still trying to re-sign left-hander Carlos Rodon after signing starting pitchers Sean Manaea and Ross Stripling this week. The Giants and St. Louis Cardinals remain interested in the back-to-back All-Star hurler, but the New York Yankees remain optimistic that they can land him and are preparing to make a formal offer to him soon. Some sources are saying that the Yankees are Rodon's preferred destination because of his affinity for the East Coast (he's from Florida). The 30-year-old is believed to be seeking a seven-year deal worth around $200 million after becoming an ace in both real life and in fantasy over the last couple of seasons with the Giants and Chicago White Sox.

Tue Dec 13 202214:57Twins Believed To Be Seriously In Play For Carlos Rodon
According to a tweet from NJ.com's Brendan Kuty on Tuesday, the Minnesota Twins are reportedly "believed to be seriously in play" for Carlos Rodon, though per Kuty's tweet, the Yankees are the free-agent starter's "preferred destination." Kuty tweeted: "FWIW, I'm told the Yankees are Carlos Rodon's preferred destination, but that the Twins and the Cardinals are believed to be seriously in play as of this afternoon." As of now, Minnesota's rotation options include Joe Ryan, Tyler Mahle, Sonny Gray, Kenta Maedaand Bailey Ober, among others. Rodon is obviously no stranger to the American League Central, having spent seven seasons with the Chicago White Sox. He logged a 2.37 ERA and a 2.65 FIP in 132 2/3 innings in his last season for the White Sox in 2021. This past season, the 29-year-old pitched to a 2.88 ERA, a 2.25 FIP, 237 strikeouts and 52 walks in 178 innings for the San Francisco Giants.

Tue Dec 13 202201:12Yankees Expected To Make Formal Offer To Carlos Rodon
The New York Yankees have opened talks with free-agent left-hander Carlos Rodon, and a formal offer is expected to be delivered on late Monday or on Tuesday. Rodon is believed to be seeking seven-plus years at $200 million-plus. The Yankees seem reluctant to go that length, but they are very serious and are hopeful about their pursuit of the best remaining pitcher on the open market. There's been some talk linking the Yankees and free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa, but it's clear that Rodon is their main focus. Rodon has also received interest from the Giants, Cardinals and several other teams after back-to-back All-Star seasons. The Yankees believe Rodon, who is from Miami, prefers the East Coast. The Rangers, Orioles and Twins also checked in on the 30-year-old southpaw.

Mon Dec 12 202214:59Giants Still Pursuing Carlos Rodon
The San Francisco Giants are reportedly "still pursuing" free-agent starting pitcher Carlos Rodon, per a tweet from The San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser on Monday. Also per Slusser's tweet, the Giants reported deal with Sean Manaea "does not impact" the team's pursuit of Rodon. Rodon made 31 starts for the National League West club last season, pitching to a 2.88 ERA, a 2.25 FIP, 237 strikeouts and 52 walks in 178 innings of work. It was another strong season for the 29-year-old, who has cemented his status as both an elite real-life and fantasy starter after an excellent 2021 season on the mound.

Sun Dec 11 202213:01Cardinals In On Carlos Rodon?
There's a mystery team in on free-agent left-hander Carlos Rodon, and it's believed to be the St. Louis Cardinals. Rodon is the top remaining free-agent starting pitcher, especially with the Mets inking Japanese right-hander Kodai Senga to a five-year deal on Saturday night. While the Cardinals are involved on the back-to-back All-Star hurler, it may very well come down to a battle between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants for his services. The Yankees are preparing to make an offer to Rodon and seem optimistic about landing him. New York beat out the Giants for their own superstar in Aaron Judge, but Rodon could be different after he thrived in San Fran last year with a 2.88 ERA and 237 strikeouts over 178 innings. The Rangers, Dodgers, Orioles, Twins and Red Sox have also been linked to Rodon.

Wed Dec 7 202218:14Yankees Remain In On Carlos Rodon
The New York Yankees remain in on free-agent left-hander Carlos Rodon despite re-signing superstar outfielder Aaron Judge to a monster nine-year, $360 million deal on Wednesday. The Yankees also remain interested in free-agent outfielder Andrew Benintendi or another left fielder, and they'd also like to bolster their bullpen. Rodon is easily the biggest name left on the starting-pitching market this winter after back-to-back All-Star seasons in 2021 and 2022 with the Chicago White Sox and San Francisco Giants. The 29-year-old southpaw has finally been able to stay healthy the last two years while also limiting the free passes. A move to Yankee Stadium and the American League East would be tricky, but Rodon has become a fantasy ace.

Mon Dec 5 202222:34Carlos Rodon Seeking A Six-Year Deal
Free-agent left-hander Carlos Rodon is reportedly seeking a six-year deal in his talks with interested teams, and he could secure a deal around $30 million per year. The New York Yankees have been in contact with Rodon, but it's unclear at the moment if they would be in for around that kind of commitment to strengthen the top of their rotation next to Gerrit Cole. Rodon is the consensus top starter left on the open market after Jacob deGrom and Justin Verlander signed deals with new teams in recent days. The 29-year-old southpaw has been an All-Star the last two years with the Chicago White Sox and San Francisco Giants and has managed to stay healthy. He went 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA (league-best 2.25 FIP), a 1.03 WHIP, a career-high 237 K's and 52 walks in 178 innings over 31 starts in 2022.

Sat Dec 3 202211:27Mets, Yankees Interested In Justin Verlander, Carlos Rodon
The New York Mets and New York Yankees are among the teams talking to the top two remaining free-agent starting pitchers. At the moment, the Mets seem more intrigued by right-hander Justin Verlander, while the Yankees seem more focused on Carlos Rodon. The Baltimore Orioles are among the many teams in on Rodon. The Houston Astros and Verlander are far apart in talks, which has opened the door for other teams to swoop in on Verlander, the 2022 American League Cy Young winner. The Mets might be the favorites to land one of Verlander or Rodon now that Jacob deGrom signed a five-year deal with the Texas Rangers. Verlander will require a shorter-term contract than Rodon given his age.

Fri Dec 2 202217:40Yankees In On Justin Verlander, Carlos Rodon
The New York Yankees are in on free-agent starting pitchers Justin Verlander and Carlos Rodon. They aren't as much in on right-hander Jacob deGrom for what he sees ($40 million-plus). Outfielder Aaron Judge remains the main target for the Bombers, but the Yankees also want to add a big starter this offseason as well. Verlander is reportedly seeking a three-year deal for around $130 million in free agency, and the Houston Astros don't want to give him three years, so it could open up the door for the Yankees or another team to swoop in. Adding an arm like Verlander or Rodon to pair with ace Gerrit Cole would immediately upgrade New York's starting rotation in 2023.

Wed Nov 30 202200:11Mets Interested In Carlos Rodon
The New York Mets held a Zoom call Tuesday with free-agent starting pitcher Carlos Rodon, per SI.com's Pat Ragazzo. The Mets have several spots to fill in their starting rotation, and Rodon would be a higher-end option in the free-agent pool. Rodon had an excellent 2022 season with the Giants, going 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 33.4% strikeout rate in 31 starts and 178 innings pitched. It was his second consecutive solid season, and it was encouraging for fantasy managers to see him stay healthy while maintaining an elite strikeout rate. The Rangers are also reportedly interested in Rodon. Regardless of where he lands, he will be a higher-end fantasy starter as long as he can stay on the field.

Wed Nov 23 202218:23Rangers Have Serious Interest In Carlos Rodon
The Texas Rangers are among the most serious suitors for free-agent left-hander Carlos Rodon. It was reported several weeks ago that the New York Mets were another team with interest in the veteran southpaw. The Rangers already traded for righty Jake Odorizzi this offseason and are serious about upgrading their rotation heading into the 2023 season. Rodon would be a potential ace for Texas after he rejected the San Francisco Giants' qualifying offer in order to test the open market this winter. The 29-year-old has been an All-Star the last two seasons and went 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA (league-low 2.25 FIP), a 1.03 WHIP, a career-high 237 strikeouts and 52 walks in 178 innings over 31 starts for San Fran.

Thu Nov 10 202213:35Rangers Make Contact With Jacob deGrom, Carlos Rodon
The Texas Rangers are showing interest in the top of the free-agent pitching market and have made contact with the agents for Jacob deGrom, Carlos Rodon and Kodai Senga, according to sources. The Rangers are also expected to give left-hander Martin Perez the $19.65 million qualifying offer. Texas acquired right-hander Jake Odorizzi from the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, so he could be another rotation option as the team looks to contend in 2023. Despite getting a late start to the season in 2022 due to injury, deGrom will be the most sought after starting pitchers on the open market this year, and he'd immediately become the Rangers ace if they were able to land him.

Sun Nov 6 202221:55Carlos Rodon Exercises Opt-Out Clause
As expected, San Francisco Giants left-hander Carlos Rodon exercised his 2023 opt-out clause on Sunday and is now a free agent. Rodon will become a free agent after signing a two-year deal with the Giants before the 2022 season. The former Chicago White Sox's hurler was an All-Star for the second straight season, going 14-8 with a strong 2.88 ERA (league-low 2.25 FIP), a 1.03 WHIP, a career-high 237 strikeouts and 52 walks in 178 innings over 31 starts. The 29-year-old southpaw will be in high demand as one of the best available starting pitchers on the open market this winter, so he should cash in with a nice deal. Regardless of where Rodon lands, he'll be a highly coveted high-end fantasy starter heading into the 2023 season.

Mon Oct 3 202220:39Carlos Rodon Could Be Shut Down
San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler confirmed that it's possible the team will shut left-hander Carlos Rodon down for the final series of the regular season against the San Diego Padres this week. Kapler said the innings jump is definitely worth consideration, as are Rodon's wishes. The 29-year-old southpaw threw 132 2/3 innings in his final season with the Chicago White Sox last year, but he's already thrown a career-high 178 innings in his first year in San Francisco in 2022. He's been excellent for fantasy managers in his second straight All-Star season, going 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA (league-best 2.25 FIP), a 1.03 WHIP, a career-high 237 strikeouts and 52 walks in his 31 starts for the Gigantes.

Fri Sep 30 202200:44Carlos Rodon Records 14th Win
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Carlos Rodon took his record to 14-8 on Thursday as his club defeated the Rockies 6-4. The left-hander was dominant by striking out 10 over six-shutout frames while walking no one and allowing just two hits in his 95-pitch effort. Rockies leadoff man Yonathan Daza was the only batter to record a hit off Rodon as he would retire 15 batters in a row at one point in the game. Rodon has put up a terrific encore season by pitching to a 2.88 ERA and 1.03 WHIP through 178 IP in his Giants debut as he'll look to end his season on another high note versus the Padres next week.

Mon Sep 19 202219:51Carlos Rodon Pushed Back To Friday
The San Francisco Giants have pushed left-hander Carlos Rodon's (finger) next start to Friday at the Arizona Diamondbacks to give his cracked fingernail/blister more time to heal this week. Rodon was originally scheduled to start on Tuesday at the Colorado Rockies. It's usually a good thing anytime a pitcher gets to avoid making a start at hitter-friendly Coors Field in Denver. The 29-year-old southpaw left his last start early against the Atlanta Braves after five innings pitched. Rodon made the All-Star team for the second straight season in his first year in San Francisco, and he's been excellent for fantasy managers with a 2.84 ERA (a league-leading 2.27 FIP), a 1.04 WHIP and a league-leading 220 strikeouts in 167 2/3 innings over his 29 starts.
