Tue Apr 16 2013 | 22:11 | Johnson bounces back against White Sox |
Josh Johnson struck out eight batters and allowed two runs over seven innings, but the White Sox downed the Blue Jays on Tuesday. |
Johnson allowed just four hits and two walks in his seven innings of work after lasting just 1 1/3 innings against the Red Sox his last time out. The 29-year-old still has a 6.91 ERA and 1.81 WHIP to show for his efforts, but the one bad start overshadows the two largely useful ones. Johnson isn't the dominant force he once was, but he can still help fantasy teams most times out. |

Thu Apr 11 2013 | 17:06 | Josh Johnson rocked in shortest career start |
Josh Johnson was hammered for six earned runs over 1 1/3 innings Thursday in a loss to the Tigers. |
It was the shortest start of his career. Johnson's fastball velocity hovered around 88-89 mph, which might have been a product of the cold weather at Detroit's Comerica Park. The right-hander now has an 11.05 ERA and 2.73 WHIP in two starts this season. He'll get the White Sox next. |

Fri Apr 5 2013 | 22:44 | Josh Johnson strikes out six in Jays' debut |
Josh Johnson racked up six strikeouts in his Blue Jays debut Friday, but came away with a no-decision after surrendering three runs on nine hits over six frames against the Red Sox. |
Johnson also issued two free passes on the evening. A two-run homer from Mike Napoli in the fifth inning provided the biggest blow against him. His velocity and movement on his pitches looked good, but he did struggle with his command at times. He'll again attempt to earn his first win in the American League when he takes on the Tigers in Detroit on Thursday. |

Mon Mar 25 2013 | 16:16 | Josh Johnson strikes out eight Phillies |
Josh Johnson was stellar against the Phillies on Monday, striking out eight in 5 1/3 scoreless innings. |
It's an especially impressive feat given the way the wind was howling. Johnson has a 1.13 ERA and a 21/1 K/BB ratio in 16 innings this spring. He's a difficult guy to rely on, but it looks like he'll be one of the AL's best pitchers in the early going. |

Thu Mar 14 2013 | 17:31 | John Johnson strikes out five Yankees |
Josh Johnson allowed one run and two hits in three innings and struck out five Thursday versus the Yankees. |
Johnson has been throwing more sinkers this spring, and it's working for him so far. He doesn't quite have the same stuff he did a few years back, so his Cy Young-type upside is probably gone. He could still be very, very good, though. |

Fri Mar 8 2013 | 15:38 | Josh Johnson perfect for 3 2/3 innings |
Josh Johnson retired all 11 batters he faced, striking out five of them, Friday against the Braves. |
Johnson has been sharp this spring, allowing just one run and two hits in 7 1/3 innings. He's yet to walk a batter. The switch from the NL to the AL hurts Johnson's ERA and WHIP upside in mixed leagues, but he has the stuff to handle the move better than most National League pitchers would. Plus, he's due much better run support than usual as a member of the Blue Jays. |

Josh Johnson worked two hitless innings, striking out two, against the Red Sox on Monday. |
Johnson allowed one hit and hit a batter in his first appearance in a Jays uniform. He's indicated that he intends to focus more on his curve this spring after turning to it with greater frequency in the second half of last year. |

Sat Dec 15 2012 | 13:00 | Jays not talking extension with Josh Johnson |
According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Blue Jays have not held any contract extension talks with Josh Johnson. |
Johnson's agent, Matt Sosnick, told Olney that there "hasn't been any conversation" with the Jays and the expectation is that he'll open next season without a new contract. "We've told them we're open to anything," Sosnick said. "But it make senses for both of us to see how he pitches at the beginning of the year." Johnson, in the final season of a four-year contract, is set to make $13.75 million in 2013 before becoming a free agent. He could be one of the top pitchers available next offseason. |

Johnson is in the final year of a four-year contract and will make $13.75 million in 2013 before becoming a free agent. While no deal between the sides is imminent, it's possible the Jays could look to extend him below market value. More likely, Johnson will play out the length of his contract and be reevaluated after the season. |

Mon Nov 19 2012 | 15:21 | Blue Jays acquire Josh Johnson from Marlins |
Blue Jays acquired RHP Josh Johnson from the Marlins in a 12-player trade. |
After being limited to just nine starts in 2011 due to right shoulder inflammation, Johnson posted a 3.81 ERA and 165/65 K/BB ratio over 191 1/3 innings this season. The Blue Jays' rotation could look pretty good if Johnson and Brandon Morrow remain healthy, Ricky Romero bounces back and Mark Buehrle can eat innings like usual. Johnson is set to earn $13.75 million in 2013 before hitting free agency. |

Wed Nov 14 2012 | 11:43 | Josh Johnson en route to Toronto for physical |
According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, Josh Johnson is on his way to Toronto to undergo a physical. |
It's expected that Jose Reyes and Mark Buehrle will also undergo physical exams, so the 12-player blockbuster trade between the Blue Jays and Marlins might not be official for a couple of days. Assuming everything goes off without a hitch, the Jays will acquire Reyes, Buehrle, Johnson, John Buck, Emilio Bonifacio and cash considerations from the Marlins in exchange for Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria, Henderson Alvarez, Anthony DeSclafani, Jake Marisnick, Justin Nicolino and Jeff Mathis. |

Tue Nov 13 2012 | 18:13 | Jays to acquire Buehrle, Johnson from Marlins |
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Blue Jays are close to acquiring Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle from the Marlins. |
General manager Alex Anthopolous was dead set on acquiring some pitching help this offseason, and he's added two big pieces to the rotation in one fell swoop. It's not clear at this point what the Blue Jays are giving up or if any money is changing hands. Johnson will make $13.75 million in 2013 before hitting free agency, while Buehrle is set to earn $48 million over the next three seasons. |

Sun Oct 7 2012 | 10:15 | Marlins likely to shop Josh Johnson |
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Marlins are expected to shop Josh Johnson over the offseason. |
The Marlins listened to offers for the right-hander at the trade deadline but never seemed to be serious about dealing him. That evidently could change now with more teams likely to be in on the bidding. Cafardo notes that the Red Sox had interest in Johnson at the deadline and likely will again this winter. He also lists the Orioles, Blue Jays, Royals, Twins, Rangers and Dodgers as potential players. |

The out-of-contention Marlins are simply shutting him down early. Johnson will finish with a 3.81 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 165/65 K/BB ratio in 191 1/3 total innings. He posted a 3.53 ERA in 14 starts after the All-Star break, fanning 80 batters in 89 1/3 frames. Wade LeBlanc will take the mound in his place against New York. |

Wed Sep 26 2012 | 22:41 | Josh Johnson falls to 8-14 |
Josh Johnson allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and five walks in six innings of Wednesday's loss to the Braves. |
Johnson struck out seven as he fell to 8-14. His 14th loss comes in his fifth straight quality start, which is a good way to sum up the run support he's gotten this season. Tonight was just the fourth time in 31 outings Johnson issued more than three free passes, though he's handed out at least three walks in four straight walks. He'll close out 2012 against the Mets in Miami on Monday. |

Wed Sep 19 2012 | 22:14 | Josh Johnson quality in loss |
Josh Johnson allowed three runs on five hits in six innings of Wednesday's loss to the Braves. |
Johnson struck out five and walked three in falling to 8-13. Johnson has now been quality in all four of his September starts, lowering his ERA from 4.00 to 3.84. Quietly dominant since the All-Star break, Johnson figures to be a value pick in 2013 fantasy drafts. |

Thu Sep 6 2012 | 15:52 | Josh Johnson earns rare win over Brewers |
Josh Johnson gave up two runs and four hits over seven innings in defeating the Brewers on Thursday. |
It was Johnson's first win since Aug. 3, though he had turned in four quality starts in five tries since. The six runs the Marlins scored today was their high output in a Johnson start in two months, so it shouldn't come as much surprise that he has only an 8-11 record to go along with his 3.81 ERA. |
