Tue May 28 201303:26Johnson goes 1-for-4 with a double in loss
Chris Johnson went 1-for-4 with a double in a loss to the Blue Jays on Monday.
Atlanta has used Johnson masterfully, platooning him with Juan Francisco at the hot corner, and been rewarded with a .349/.382/.496 slash line. According to BABIP, Johnson has been amongst the luckiest hitters in the league this year. If you can sell high, do so before he regresses to something similar to the .281/.326/.451 batting line he posted in 136 games last season between the Astros and Diamondbacks.

Sat Apr 20 201321:40Johnson has two hits against Pirates Saturday
Chris Johnson went 2-for-4 with a double against the Pirates on Saturday.
Johnson is now hitting a ridiculous .418 with two home runs on the season. He's been playing first base in Freddie Freeman's absence, but with Freeman's return imminent he'll likely return to third. Johnson is part of a platoon with Juan Francisco at the hot corner but when Johnson is hitting like this it's hard to imagine he won't get the bulk of the playing time.

Mon Apr 8 201322:11Chris Johnson goes 3-for-4 for Braves
Chris Johnson delivered three singles in four at-bats against the Marlins on Monday.
The Braves have said they don't plan to use Evan Gattis at first base, so the position will belong to Johnson for the two weeks that Freddie Freeman is out. It makes him a nice short-term choice in NL-only leagues.

Sat Mar 30 201317:47Chris Johnson homers in Braves' rout
Chris Johnson had a two-run homer and an RBI single as the Braves topped their Double-A Mississippi affiliate 10-0 on Saturday.
Not counting today, Johnson hit .361/.365/.514 with three homers and 12 RBI in 72 at-bats this spring. It wasn't as good as Juan Francisco's March, so Johnson will probably play primarily against left-handers initially. Still, he could get a look as a regular if Francisco struggles.

Sun Mar 17 201316:15Chris Johnson hits three homers
Chris Johnson went 3-for-4 and homered off the Mets' Jon Niese on Sunday.
Johnson had been in a little 3-for-18 slump, but he's hitting .305 with three homers in 48 at-bats for the spring. Juan Francisco has been better, hitting .311 with four homers in 45 at-bats. We'd still like to see a platoon set up at third for the Braves, but it's possible Johnson will be the main guy early on.

Mon Mar 4 201316:47Chris Johnson hits second spring home run
Chris Johnson went 3-for-3 and hit his second homer Monday as the Braves topped the Mets 4-2.
Johnson is no stranger to big springs, having hit .322 with eight homers in 62 at-bats in 2010 and .355 with five homers and seven doubles in 62 at-bats last year. It looks like he's at it again this year with eight hits in 19 at-bats already. It may well earn him an everyday job at third base initially.

Thu Feb 28 201317:20Chris Johnson hits first homer for Braves
Chris Johnson hit his first homer Thursday and is off to a 5-for-12 start this spring.
Johnson has a history of strong springs, so this is nothing new. He's competing with Juan Francisco (4-for-12, 1 HR) to become the Braves' primary third baseman. He'll almost certainly start against left-handers, so the question is whether he'll platoon with Francisco or be a full-time player.

Thu Jan 24 201313:30Braves get Chris Johnson in seven-player deal
Braves acquired 3B Chris Johnson from the Diamondbacks in the seven-player Justin Upton trade.
Johnson posted a decent .281/.326/.451 batting line with 15 home runs and 76 RBI in 136 games last season between the Astros and Diamondbacks. He is expected to split time at third base in Atlanta with Juan Francisco.

Tue Oct 2 201208:39Johnson (hand) hitless in return to action
Chris Johnson (hand) went 0-for-5 with a sacrifice fly Monday in his return to action.
Johnson hadn't played since September 23 due to a left hand contusion. The 28-year-old third baseman is batting .281/.326/.453 this year, including an .832 OPS in 42 games with the D-Backs.

X-rays on Chris Johnson's left hand came back negative.

Sun Sep 23 201215:40Chris Johnson exits after HBP
Chris Johnson left Sunday's game after being hit in the left hand by a pitch.
It's not clear at this point how severe the injury is, but the fact that he exited immediately isn't a good sign. Ryan Wheeler replaced Johnson.

Sun Sep 23 201208:47Chris Johnson to remain starting 3B
Chris Johnson is expected to remain the Diamondbacks' starting third baseman next season.
"Depending on (Willie Bloomquist's) health, shortstop is probably more of a concern than third base," general manager Kevin Towers said. Johnson is batting .296/.326/.533 with seven homers in 40 games since arriving in Arizona, which is significantly better than his career .277/.316/.433 line. If he falters, the D'Backs could turn to Ryan Wheeler, and they also have top position prospect Matt Davidson not far away.

Thu Sep 6 201201:23Chris Johnson has another nice night
Chris Johnson doubled, tripled and drove in two runs in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Giants.
Johnson got Jean Machi for a two-run double in the seventh. Johnson is hitting just .250 in 30 games since coming over from the Astros, but has laced 12 extra-base hits while driving in 26 runs. He should remain an NL-only league warrior down the stretch.

Mon Sep 3 201220:14Chris Johnson homers in Arizona's win
Chris Johnson had a two-run homer and a sac fly against the Giants on Monday.
The Diamondbacks have been having Johnson and Ryan Wheeler split time at third base, but while Wheeler is the more promising player, Johnson has been the more productive of the two. He has six homers and 24 RBI in 92 at-bats for Arizona, though that does come with a modest .239 average and a 23/3 K/BB ratio.

Tue Aug 7 201222:36Chris Johnson's 2 HR, 5 RBI help down Bucs
Chris Johnson blasted a pair of home runs and drove home five on Tuesday, powering the Diamondbacks to a 10-4 victory over the Pirates.
Johnson was 0-for-3 and the D'Backs were trailing 4-3 heading into the eighth inning before it all erupted. His three-run shot off Jason Grilli broke a 4-4 tie, while his two-run blast in the ninth provided valuable insurance. Johnson has been out of his mind since being acquired by the Snakes, now hitting .345 (10-for-29) with five homers and 15 RBI over only eight games.

Wed Aug 1 201201:27Chris Johnson goes 3-for-4 for D-backs
Chris Johnson had another nice game Tuesday, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI against the Dodgers.
Johnson has six RBI in two days with the Diamondbacks. He should definitely be in line to hit with more men on base in Arizona. Still, he's not really this good.

Tue Jul 31 201201:42Chris Johnson hits grand slam in debut
Chris Johnson hit a grand slam Monday off Aaron Harang in his Diamondbacks debut.
That's one way to get in good with the fans. The other way would have involved buying tequila shots, and given his major league minimum salary, it's for the best that Johnson didn't have to go that route.

Sun Jul 29 201213:21D'Backs pick up Chris Johnson from Astros
Diamondbacks acquired 3B Chris Johnson from the Astros in exchange for OFs Bobby Borchering and Marc Krauss.
No word yet on what Houston will receive in the deal. The D'Backs have been looking for more production from third base all season, but Johnson probably isn't the answer. He's put up a .274/.314/.421 batting line over four seasons with the Astros and has hit only slightly better than that this season, batting .279/.329/.428 with eight homers over 341 at-bats. The 'Stros seem likely to recall Brett Wallace to take Johnson's spot on the roster.

Thu Jul 26 201223:08Johnson continues to rake in loss to Pirates
Chris Johnson continued to swing a hot bat in Thursday's loss to the Pirates, going 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBI.
Johnson launched a solo shot off A.J. Burnett in the eighth inning to get the Astros on the board. He would later add an RBI single in the ninth to pull them within 5-3, but that's as close as they would come. Over his last seven games, Johnson is hitting .444 (12-for-27) with a homer and five RBI. He makes for an interesting option as a corner infielder in deeper mixed leagues until he cools off.
